El mejor cronista de la guerra de los moriscos: Luis del Mármol Carvajal

Abstract

La figura de Luis del Mármol Carvajal, uno de los grandes cronistas de la guerra de los moriscos, ha de ser reivindicada como la de un personaje no sólo de gran conocimiento de los hechos y de abundante caudal informativo, sino también capaz de finas críticas y de reflexiones valiosas. A partir de los documentos hallados y editados en el presente trabajo, se ofrecen los primeros apuntes de una biografía del escritor, que avance de forma especial lo complejo de su papel en la guerra de las Alpujarras y en la Granada del siglo XVI.The figure of Luis del Mármol Carvajal, one of the major chroniclers of the Moorish war, has to be recovered as that of a person not only wealth of knowledge of the facts and of abundant information, but also capable of fine critics and of valuable reflections. Taking the found documents, which are edited in the present work, as a basis, the first notes for a biography of the writer are offered. This biography should specially clarify the complexity of his role in the war of the Alpujarras and in the Grenada of the 16th century
