Book, Movie, Game: An Adaptation Analysis of Heart of Darkness, Apocalypse Now, and Spec Ops: The Line

Abstract

This thesis dealing with the novel Heart of Darkness and its adaptations is comprised of two parts. The first part constructs a theoretical framework with which an analysis can be conducted in the subsequent part of this paper. This framework cannot, however, be applied to novel, film and video game in equal measure, due to the inherent differences of the three media. As such observations of camera movement and similar elements are limited to visual media as they are non-existent in written format. The analytical part is divided into three chapters, both chronologically and in a way where the subsequent chapter uses the previous as a base upon which to comparatively analyze itself. Thus we analyze the novel to form a base for its filmic adaptation and those two to facilitate our analysis of the video game. The comparative findings are then once more featured in the conclusion
