Public perception of creative and cultural industries in Croatia

    No full text
This research investigates the public perception of creative and cultural industries in Croatia. Based on the survey data, it assesses how well Croatian citizens/consumers are familiar with creative and cultural industries and explores their usage of creative and cultural industry products and services. The consumers’ attitudes towards creative and cultural industries’ products and services are also compared. The research objective is to identify the determinants of public perception in the context of creative industries and the creative economy. Six main theoretical models of acceptance are tested to examine which model best fits the context of creative industries in Croatia. The findings are framed to facilitate policy decision-making so 20 recommendations for the future development of policies to encourage creative and cultural industries in Croatia are offered

    No full text

Missing top incomes and tax-benefit microsimulation: evidence from correcting household survey data using tax records data

    No full text
Using the microsimulation model EUROMOD for Croatia, we compare the results of simulation based on the original survey data (EU-SILC) with those based on the survey data corrected using tax records data and a recent survey correction method. We show that the correction method, although it debiases inequality estimates, may not be able to correct the income structure by source if some income sources are severely under-represented. In Croatia, this is the case for income from capital, property, and contractual work. As a solution, we propose to complement the correction method with an ad hoc pre-correction procedure. The corrections bring the aggregate amount, distribution, and structure of survey income closer to those in the tax data. Consequently, the simulated fiscal instruments become more like those in the tax data. Simulation of a hypothetical tax reform shows the results based on the uncorrected data may be misleading in terms of the estimated budgetary impact and the distributional incidence of the reform

Change of consumers’ attitudes in response to an online privacy violation incident

    No full text
This research examines consumers’ attitudes towards the Internet and consumer behavior after they had experienced an online privacy violation incident. This issue is assessed by applying the concept of resilience and coping strategies in reaction to stress. The focus of this empirical research is change in consumers’ attitudes and behavior online. Our analysis is performed on a survey data collected from Croatian Internet users who had experienced online privacy violation. The model was estimated by OLS and order probit method. Results show that highly resilient consumers are more likely to continue to use the Internet as frequently as before an online privacy violation incident or even more frequently. Additionally, consumers with higher resilience are also more likely not to increase their level of cautiousness after an online privacy violation incident and are more likely not to change their attitude towards the Internet. Consumers with higher online privacy awareness and online privacy concern are more likely to increase their cautiousness on the Internet after the online privacy violation incident
