    Processing Croatian Aspectual Derivatives

    The main objective of this paper is to detect and describe major derivational processes and affixes used in the derivation of aspectually connected Croa-tian verbs. This kind of analysis is enabled by previous detection of verbal derivational families, i.e. families of verbs with the same root as well as the derivational affixes they contain. Using NooJ, we automatically detect such derivational processes and assign the aspectual tag to derivatives. The proce-dure is based on the list of selected base forms and derivatives, on the list of derivational affixes and their allomorphs, and on the set of derivational rules. For this objective we selected 15 verbal derivational families comprising app. 250 derivatives in total. The output is being used for the development of a large on-line database of Croatian aspectual pairs, triples and quadruplets. Such a resource will be valuable for various research works in lexicology and lexicography

    Roman Vladimira Nabokova "Lolita" je od svog objavljivanja 1955. godine plijenio pažnju čitatelja, kritičara i teoretičara podjednako, potaknuvši mnoge znanstvene radove svojom tematikom i bogatstvom motiva za analizu. Ovaj rad će se pozabaviti četirima segmentima toga romana: problematikom slobodne volje i privatnosti, vremena u romanu, pripovjedačem te naposljetku i kontroverzno obrađenim motivom ljubavi. Analiza će se oslanjati na teorijske radove slične tematike u pokušaju prikazivanja kako navedeni elementi figuriraju unutar jednog od najpoznatijih i svakako najkontroverznijih Nabokovljevih romana

    Koncept suosjećanja je na Zapadu, kao tema filozofije, sustavno stavljan u stranu. Cilj je ovoga diplomskoga rada prikazati koncept suosjećanja kako ga je shvatio Arthur Schopenhauer te ga usporediti sa suosjećanjem kako se poima u buddhizmu gdje se taj koncept uzima kao kardinalna vrlina. Rad započinje istraživanjem o utjecaju indijske misli na Schopenhauera koji je već od 1814. bio u doticaju sa istočnjačkim idejama. Schopenhauerove najvažnije retke o suosjećanju, moralu i etici nalazimo u spisu „O temelju morala“. Buddhistički vrijednosni sustav izuzetno je racionalistički (kardinalna vrlina mudrosti), ali počiva na suosjećanju. Pregledom, analizom i usporedbom shvaćanja koncepta suosjećanja pokazat će se moguće sličnosti i razlike.The concept of compassion, as a topic in philosophy, has been sistematically put aside by the Western philosophical tradition. Aim of this master's thesis is to present the concept of compassion as it was understood by Arthur Schopenhauer and compare it with the compassion as seen in Buddhism where it is considered as one of the cardinal virtues. The research begins with the influence of Indian thought on Arthur Schopenhauer who was in contact with the ideas from the East as early as 1814. Schopenhauer's most essential writings on compassion, morality and ethics are found in his essay „On the basis of morality“. The Buddhist value system is rationalistic (the cardinal virtue of wisdom) but based on the concept of compassion. The overview, analysis, and comparison between the two understandings of compassion will show their possible similarities and differences

    Understanding the category of present perfect can be quite difficult for the Croatian EFL students due to its very complex nature. Therefore, the role of textbooks is to enable students to get a better insight into the layers of meaning of present perfect. However, it seems that many textbooks fail at this task as the authors themselves disagree about different interpretations of present perfect. Of course, this disagreement is not that much surprising as its origins can be found in the differences between the traditional grammars and those more contemporary ones. Hence, establishing a unique and a more simplified meaning that would cover all the similarities and differences within the category is considered to be quite challenging. Following the analysis of present perfect as provided by Žic Fuchs (2009) in her book Kognitivna lingvistika i jezične strukture: engleski present perfect, the main goal of this paper is to investigate the ways in which present perfect has been represented in 36 English and Croatian textbooks, and furthermore, to analyze them according to the author’s definition of present perfect as a complex network of four conventionalized meanings. The first part of the paper is dedicated to the theoretical explanations of present perfect. The following chapters will demonstrate how tense and aspect have been defined and their role in the understanding of present perfect. The second part of the paper involves a research study. The main goal is to analyze the textbooks and to determine the advantages and disadvantages of the representations of present perfect by contrasting them with the author’s theory. The research study will be followed by a conclusion in which all the results of the analysis will be presented

    O livro dos contos Luuanda do escritor angolano José Luandino Vieira foi escolhido para o presente trabalho com o objetivo de analisar os mecanismos discursivos de resistência na literatura angolana. A imposição de valores portugueses ao todos os aspetos da sociedade angolana encorajou José Luandino Vieira a modificar um dos valores impostos – a língua portuguesa. Tendo em conta a tradição e património angolano, o escritor recorreu às línguas indígenas, mais particularmente, à língua quimbunda, ao lado da língua portuguesa criando, assim, desvios na língua – uma criação original. As alterações linguísticas são mais notáveis na área do léxico e sintaxe, ocupando assim a posição central na análise da obra Luuanda.Zbirka priča Luuanda angolskog autora José Luandina Vieire odabrana je za temu ovoga rada kako bi se analizirali diskurzivni oblici otpora u angolskoj književnosti. Nametanje portugalskih vrijednosti na sve aspekte angolskog društva potaknulo je José Luandina Vieiru da izmijeni jednu od nametnutih vrijednosti – portugalski jezik. Uzevši u obzir angolsku tradiciju i baštinu, pisac se, u stvaranju vlastitog originalnog izričaja, poslužio domorodačkim jezicima – točnije jezikom Kimbundu – tako stvarajući odstupanja u standardnom obliku portugalskog jezika. Jezične promjene najviše se mogu primijetiti na području leksika i sintakse, time zauzimajući središnju poziciju u analizi djela Luuanda

    Der Steppenwolf – Film und Buch im DaF-Unterricht

    In dieser Diplomarbeit geht es um das Thema Film und Buch im DaF-Unterricht, erläutert am Beispiel von Hermann Hesses Erzählung Der Steppenwolf und deren gleichnamiger Verfilmung von Fred Haines. Im theoretischen Teil meiner Arbeit ist die Rede von Literaturverfilmungen und ihrem Einsatz im Fremdsprachenunterricht. Im praktischen Teil der Arbeit kommen Unterrichtsvorschläge für die Didaktisierung der Verfilmung Der Steppenwolf und des gleichnamigen Romans. Im ersten Teil der Diplomarbeit wird die Rolle der Literaturverfilmungen im DaF-Unterricht erläutert und ihre Definition gegeben. Ferner werden die Geschichte und die Arten der Literaturverfilmungen geschildert. Weiterhin wird unter theoretischem Aspekt ein Vergleich zwischen literarischen und filmischen Ausdrucksmitteln durchgeführt. Zuletzt wird die veränderte Rolle des Rezipienten beim Lesen und Anschauen beschrieben. Im zweiten Teil der Arbeit wird auf das Leben, die Werke und die Bedeutung von Hermann Hesse in Deutschland eingegangen. Im dritten Teil wird die Entstehung des Buches Der Steppenwolf und der gleichnamigen Verfilmung behandelt. Ferner wird die Verfilmung Der Steppenwolf mit ihrer Textvorlage verglichen, wobei auf die Struktur, Symbolik und die autobiographischen Züge dieser Verfilmung und ihrer Textvorlage hingewiesen wird. Im vierten Teil wird der Einsatz von Literaturverfilmungen im DaF-Unterricht erörtert, wobei einige Vorschläge für die Unterrichtspraxis zum Thema Literaturverfilmungen gegeben werden. Das letzte Kapitel der Arbeit besteht aus zwei Unterrichtsvorschlägen für die Didaktisierung der Verfilmung Der Steppenwolf und seiner literarischen Vorlage. Die beiden Unterrichtsvorschläge sind für den DaF-Unterricht in der letzten Klasse des Gymnasiums vorgesehen

    Carnival Customs of the Srijem Region in Vojvodina

    Autor u ovom radu piše o pokladnim običajima na području Srijema, u urbanim lokalitetima Petrovaradin, Srijemska Mitrovica i Ruma te u ruralnim naseljima Golubinci i Nikinci. Na temelju provedenog istraživanja, autor uspoređuje elemente običaja u spomenutim lokalitetima u pokladno vrijeme. Elementi koje proučava su: organizacija poklada, maskiranje i izrada maski, hrana, piće, maskirani ophodi i pjesme koje obilježavaju pokladno vrijeme u Srijemu. Na temelju iskaza kazivača i raspoloživih izvora i literature prikazuje pokladne proslave i ukazuje na važnost pokladnih običaja za srijemske Hrvate.In this paper, the author writes about the carnival customs in the region of Srijem, in the urban localities of Petrovaradin, Srijemska Mitrovica and Ruma, as well as the rural settlements of Golubinci and Nikinci. Based on the research that was conducted, the author compares elements of the carnival-time customs in the aforementioned localities. The elements he studies are: carnival organization, masquerade and mask-making, food, drink, ritual masked processions and songs that are characteristic of carnival time in the Srijem Region. Based on the information gathered from informants, accessible sources and literature, the paper describes carnival festivities and demonstrates the importance of carnival customs to the Srijem Croats

    Idioms with a component from the semantic field of food and drink in Turkish and Croatian language

    U ovom diplomskom radu analiziraju se turski i hrvatski frazemi i poslovice koji za sastavnicu imaju neki jezični element iz semantičkog polja 'hrana' i 'piće'. Budući da su hrana i piće neophodan dio čovjekove svakodnevice, svoje su mjesto pronašli i u frazeološkom fondu različitih jezika, pa tako i turskog i hrvatskog. Uz frazeme sa sastavnicom koja označuje konkretne kulinarske elemente ili hranu, usporedili smo i one koji opisuju čovjekov odnos prema hrani i piću. Kontrastivnom analizom utvrđeno je da većina turskih frazema i poslovica nema svoj ekvivalent u hrvatskom jeziku, a primjeri kod kojih je uočena značenjska podudarnost nemaju isti leksički sastav niti sintaktičku strukturu. Također je ustanovljeno da određeni broj turskih i hrvatskih frazema i poslovica ima dvije ili više varijanti što svjedoči o bogatstvu frazeologije i paremiologije tih jezika.Idioms with a component from the semantic field of food and drink in Turkish and Croatian language The goal of this master's thesis is to analyze Turkish and Croatian idioms with a lexical element from the semantic field of food and drink as its component. Since food and drink are a crucial part of everyday life, they also find their place in the phraseological fund of different languages, including Turkish and Croatian. We compared the idioms with lexemes referring to concrete gastronomic elements and food, as well as the ones which describe a person’s relation towards food and drink. A contrastive analysis showed that the majority of Turkish idioms and proverbs do not have their equivalent in the Croatian language and that semantically compatible examples do not have the same lexical composition or syntactic structure. The analysis also suggests that a certain number of Turkish and Croatian idioms and proverbs have two or more variants, which proves the phraseological and paremiological richness of these languages

    Zur Distribution deutscher Entlehnungen in kroatischen Gespanschaften

    Diese Diplomarbeit behandelt das Thema der deutschen Entlehnungen in der kroatischen Sprache von heute. Obwohl Kroatien schon seit über zwei Jahrzehnten ein souveräner und unabhängiger Staat ist, kann man noch heute konkreten Beispielen des Einflusses benachbarter Kulturen bzw. Sprachen auf die Spur kommen. Kroatien befand sich während seiner Geschichte in diversen politisch-geografischen Konstellationen, die die Kultur und Sprache des Landes prägten. Aus geografischen, aber auch aus politischen Gründen erfolgte der Einfluss jedoch nicht überall im Lande mit der gleichen Intensität. Deshalb versucht diese Arbeit herauszufinden, ob und wie intensiv die deutsche Sprache die jeweiligen Regionen Kroatiens beeinflusste. Dabei wird von der Hypothese ausgegangen, dass die Varietäten im Norden Kroatiens die meisten deutschen Entlehnungen besitzen und dass die dort geborenen Probanden die meisten Entlehnungen kennen und sogar aktiv benutzen. Außer der Herkunft, wollte als Zweites nachgeprüft werden, ob das Alter Einfluss auf die Sprachkenntnisse hat. Als Drittes wurde davon ausgegangen, dass das Geschlecht oder besser gesagt die stereotypen Geschlechterrollen potenziell die Sprachkenntnisse beeinflussen können. Alle Hypothesen wurden mithilfe einer Google-Umfrage zur Prüfung gestellt. Zum Auftakt der Arbeit werden erstmals die theoretischen Grundlagen und die Grundbegriffe der Sprachkontaktforschung dargelegt. Dieses wird von einer kurzen Darbietung der wichtigsten Ereignisse in der Geschichte der deutsch-kroatischen Beziehungen gefolgt. Am Ende werden der eigentliche Umfrageteil sowie die durch die Umfrage erhaltenen Ergebnisse erläutert und analysiert, um die Hypothesen entweder zu bekräftigen oder zu widerlegen
