Chinese as a foreign language project-based learning using TikTok: students’ perceptions on learning process and online discourse
Chinese as a Foreign Language (CFL) learners often experience anxiety, largely due to limited authentic communication opportunities and negative pedagogical practices, which hinder their confidence, performance, and achievement. Hence, this study investigates the perceived impact of TikTok-integrated project-based learning (PBL) on CFL learners, to explore students’ perceptions of the online learning process and online discourse. A qualitative case study design was used to explore the perspectives of 16 undergraduates on their competencies, experiences, and sociocultural interactions. The study design incorporated John Dewey’s theories of experientialism, constructivism, and constructionism, along with Merrill Swain’s Output Hypothesis and Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Theory of Mind. The findings revealed that while students initially faced challenges with metalinguistic elements, implementing PBL through TikTok enhanced their engagement and confidence, and supported perceived language development. The platform facilitated collaborative language practice, creative expression, and constructive feedback. However, challenges in creative and critical thinking were identified, suggesting a need for further support. The study underscores the potential of TikTok as a valuable tool for innovative CFL teaching, emphasising the importance of addressing students’ specific needs and providing additional guidance on project accomplishment
The relationship between social belonging and student engagement among members of students clubs and associations in a Malaysian private college
This study examined the relationship between social belonging and student engagement among members of student clubs and associations at a private college in Shah Alam, Malaysia. While previous research has highlighted the link between belonging and engagement primarily in classroom contexts, little is known about how these constructs interact within extracurricular settings. The study aimed to determine whether the number of clubs joined, duration of membership, and leadership roles predicted students’ sense of belonging and engagement. Using a correlational survey design, data were collected from 54 students across various clubs. Pearson correlation analyses revealed that engagement was significantly and positively correlated with the number of clubs joined but not with duration or leadership roles. Conversely, belonging showed no significant relationship with any participation indicators. However, belonging and engagement were strongly and positively correlated with each other, suggesting that while the two are interrelated, they arise from different conditions. The findings indicate that while participation breadth enhances engagement through exposure to diverse social experiences, belonging depends more on the quality of interpersonal relationships and inclusivity within club environments. These findings add to the relatively limited literature on extracurricular participation in non-Western higher education contexts and highlight the importance of fostering inclusive and supportive club cultures that promote both engagement and belonging. Future research should investigate these dynamics using longitudinal and qualitative approaches to better understand how engagement may develop into belonging over time
Assessing awareness of halal food premises: issues and strategic solutions
In the contemporary era, the food and beverage industry grown rapidly. This can be observed through the rise in the number of premises that have been established currently. This growth provides consumers many types of options. However, this industry is always facing thousands of problems regarding the disobedience of the halal and haram concept, whether during the preparation of the food or its consumption. Therefore, this study aims to measure the awareness among society towards the halal status of premises, analyse the factors of premises not having halal certification and to identify the solution to encourage premises owners to apply for halal certificates. This study used a mixed methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. A survey was conducted on 50 respondents by using Google Forms while qualitative data were obtained through the analysis of journals and articles. The findings show that most of the respondents were concerned about the halal certification of the restaurant. Majority also believe that a sign of ‘no pork’ and ‘no alcohol’ do not guarantee halal compliance due to there being other factors that can influence the halal status. Additionally, three major factors of premises were founded as contributing to the absence of halal certification, which are the strict procedures required by Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), the complicated documentation process and financial problems. As a result, effective solutions are proposed including applying halal certification through MYeHALAL, ensuring raw materials used in the premises have a halal certification or supporting documents from the authority, sending the internal staff to halal training provided by JAKIM to avoid hiring outsiders as halal executives and give a financial support to the premises that want to apply for halal certification

Elucidation of future designers interpret the identity of fusion in ecodesign
This research addresses the challenges of establishing an ecological design (ecodesign) identity, focusing on the difficulties Malaysian product designers face in creating aesthetically appealing sustainable designs. It highlights that manufacturers often lack semantic design thinking in intangible product forms, resulting in a limited perception of beauty within the ecodesign context. Consequently, young designers struggle to interpret ecological forms, affecting the development of a strong sustainable product identity. This study explores ecodesign concept theories and beliefs, emphasizing the importance of semantic design thinking among young product designers through two approaches: the support model and the evaluation model. Adopting the Design Research Methodology (DRM) framework, this study integrates a systematic approach through the Verbal Protocol Analysis (VPA) method. A mixed-method sampling (MMS) strategy involved 61 participants from three industrial design disciplines - art and design, design and architecture, and engineering design - across Malaysian public universities. Initially, 16 participants engaged in preliminary VPA probing within a portable laboratory, supported by a small focus group discussion to deepen qualitative insights, while 45 participants explored metaphorical processes through online distance learning

Interprofessional education in the master of clinical pharmacy clinical clerkship
Interprofessional education (IPE) has become an essential component in healthcare training, as collaborative practice is fundamental to improving patient outcomes. The World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2010 defined IPE as an approach in which students from different professional backgrounds learn with, from, and about each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes. The primary goal is to foster a "collaborative practice-ready" workforce that can work effectively and contribute to improving team-based, patient-centered care. The Master of Clinical Pharmacy Clinical Clerkship integrates interprofessional teaching by facilitating postgraduate pharmacy students to engage directly with clinical specialists
The role of technology in shaping online learning effectiveness in engineering higher education: a theoretical perspective
The digitization of engineering education is reshaping the design, delivery, and effectiveness of online learning environments. This conceptual paper examines how emerging educational technologies-such as artificial intelligence, immersive technologies, learning analytics, and cloud-based platforms-can be systematically integrated to enhance learning effectiveness in online engineering education. Drawing on an integrative review of contemporary literature and established learning theories, the study proposes a multidimensional framework comprising five interrelated dimensions: technological infrastructure, pedagogical design, user experience design, feedback and learning analytics, and support systems. Grounded in constructivism, connectivism, cognitive load theory, self-determination theory, and activity theory, the framework explains how coordinated technological and pedagogical alignment can improve learner engagement, motivation, collaboration, and performance. By moving beyond tool-centric approaches, the paper offers a theory-driven lens to guide educators, administrators, and policy makers in designing effective and sustainable online engineering learning environments and provides a foundation for future empirical validation
