Polacy w Kościele katolickim na Kaukazie Północnym
The history of the Poles in the North Caucasus dates back to the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, but the presence of Catholic priests in this region can only be spoken of at the beginning of the nineteenth century. At first Polish priests only made travels to the Caucasus, but later began to set up parishes to address the spiritual needs of the Poles exiled there. The pastoral activity of the priests was not limited to the sphere of the spirit, but also focused on material help. An important point of their activity was the construction of churches. They collected donations for this purpose themselves and were also constantly supported by the Russian authorities. They were not detracted in their endeavors by the repressions that followed in the wake of the Polish national uprisings or suspicion of proselytism. The history of the Poles in the North Caucasus dates back to the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, but the presence of Catholic priests in this region can only be spoken of at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Misjonarze męczennicy a wolność religijna, Warszawa 2023 (ss. 186, Uniwersyteckie Centrum Badań Wolności Religijnej UKSW w Warszawie)
The publication’s goal is to fill a void by demonstrating the value of missionary martyrdom in the context of the right to religious freedom. Furthermore, the study defends the dignity of Christians and reveals the value of the sacrifice made by the community of believers in every corner of the world, as represented in the martyrdom of missionaries. Martyrdom has been present in the Church as a form of testimony from its inception. However, it is important to remember that it is always the result of abuses of the right to life and the freedom to practise one’s faith. The purpose of this publication is to identify the current reference of the martyrdom of missionaries to religious freedom rights, as well as the causes and consequences of violations of these rights, not only by individuals, but also by representatives of various social movements or even state institutions.
Argentyna – misyjna droga do świętości Brata Jerzego Łakomiaka OFM
Among the many paths in life on which God places man there is undoubtedly the one that leads to the heights of holiness. It is not always easy, but certainly beautiful. Delighted by this beauty of God’s plans, Brother Jerzy Lakomiak united his paths with the Master’s dogs. Reading and responding to God’s call, he responded with his life by taking up the path of the evangelical counsels: chastity poverty and obedience following the example of St. Francis of Assisi. His love for God, the Blessed Mother, holy poverty, quiet and humble service, and a life of prayer, first in his native country and then for half a century on Argentine soil, made it possible that today among his confreres and those who knew Brother George, he is spoken of as one who exemplarily fulfilled the mission the Risen Lord entrusted to him.Among the many paths in life on which God places man there is undoubtedly the one that leads to the heights of holiness. Franciszkańscy misjonarze w Peru
The history of evangelization in Peru, which started at the very onset of the 16th century is connected with the presence of the missionaries of the Franciscan Order, who played a major role in the building of Church structures on the territory of the former Inca empire. However, their main contribution was an effective evangelization of the indigenous peoples through the use of innovative methods (music, singing and art, organizing schools for Indians, knowledge of indigenous languages, protection of Indians against excessive exploitation). In this activity they were urged by their Franciscan charisma summed up in the greeting “Peace and good”. Their missionary commitment was realized not only in the Andean world, but over time expanded across the Amazon Selva. The main purpose of this article is to provide some information about missionary work of Polish Jesuits in Greece and in Constantinople from XVI to XX century. After a general introduction to the topic, the first chapter “Constantinople” is giving us some information about 18 Jesuits, who worked in Constantinople from XVI until XIX century. Second chapter presented Polish Jesuits who worked on Islands of Aegean Sea: Syros, Tinos, Chios in the XIX century, especially Fathers: Tadeusz Kuczyński, Dominik Osmołowski and Józef Skulina. Third chapter is about Jesuits traveling and working temporarily in Greece in XIX century and in the beginning of XX century, especially Fathers: Maksymilian Ryłło and Marcin Czermiński. Last chapter presented some Jesuits working in Athens in the XX century. Article finished with bibliography and information about Polonica in the Jesuit Archive in Athens. It is not very deep research but rather a kind of signal showing new topics for historic, scientific work. The main purpose of this article is to provide some information about missionary work of Polish Jesuits in Greece and in Constantinople from XVI to XX century. Inspiracje dla misyjnej działalności Kościoła w encyklikach Benedykta XVI
The analysis carried out in the article indicates the truths about the Church contained in Benedict XVI’s encyclicals, which at the same time constitute specific inspirations for the missionary work of the Church ad gentes. The Pope does not distinguish between generally separate „missionary situations” and speaks rather of a single, fundamental, inalienable mission that still stands before the Church. Sometimes, however, he evokes the activity of the Church in mission areas. He reminds and points out that the Church’s ever-present task, including the mission ad gentes, is to remind and proclaim to the contemporary world the truth about God who is love. Missionary activity is also supposed to restore hope to modern man that goes beyond the temporal order. Finally, the Church’s mission, especially in the framework of her mission ad gentes, is to care for the true progress and development of every person and of the whole human society in truth and love. The missionary activity of the community Christ’s disciples remains a special area of such presence and witness of the Church in a world which is constantly globalizing. The analysis carried out in the article indicates the truths about the Church contained in Benedict XVI’s encyclicals, which at the same time constitute specific inspirations for the missionary work of the Church ad gentes. Poznanie języka jako fundament pracy misyjnej. Prace ojców białych nad gramatyką języka bemba
It was always important for the Church, that a communication between the preacher and the listener was the best; the former must be understood in such a way that the latter is moved by the words of the Gospel. Before the arrival of Europeans in Central Africa (in late nineteenth century), the Bemba people did not know any written form, and their language only had a spoken form. It was with the arrival of Europeans on the Bemba lands that the era of learning, writing, studying and classifying the language of this ethnic group began. The first Europeans to reach the Bemba area were the missionaries, the White Fathers, and it was they who, after beginning their missionary activity, began to study the Bemba language. This article presents the achievements of the White Fathers in this field and tries to explain how the process of learning the Bemba language by the White Fathers was carried out.It was always important for the Church, that a communication between the preacher and the listener was the best; the former must be understood in such a way that the latter is moved by the words of the Gospel.
