Enhancing Human Resource Capacity for Sustainable Tourism Village Management in Ciamis Regency
Tourism villages in Ciamis Regency, West Java, possess significant potential for sustainable tourism development. Nevertheless, village tourism managers encounter numerous challenges, including limited comprehension of sustainability principles, insufficient environmental management, lack of access to financial and human resources, and constraints in strategic planning. This qualitative study, conducted through observations, interviews, and document analysis, investigates these challenges and evaluates the effectiveness of a capacity-building training program tailored for tourism village managers. Grounded in community engagement theory, the program emphasized participatory learning, innovation, and collaborative governance. The findings demonstrate that the training enhanced managerial competencies in sustainable tourism development, fostered innovation in tourism product design, and improved stakeholder engagement. The integration of local wisdom, environmental conservation, and community empowerment emerged as key components in building competitive and sustainable rural tourism destinations. The study contributes to the academic discourse on sustainable rural tourism and highlights the strategic role of targeted training and community involvement in achieving long-term development goals

Challenges Facing the Elderly in Accessing Health Services: A Case Study of Akheri Ward in Arumeru District, Arusha, Tanzania
Globally, the ageing population is growing fast. Older adults face complex health needs and struggle to access appropriate care, especially in low- and middle-income countries. In Tanzania, rural elderly individuals face multiple barriers to healthcare. These include long distances to facilities, financial hardship, and a shortage of geriatric services. This study examined the challenges faced by elderly people in accessing healthcare in Akheri Ward, Arumeru District. The study employed a mixed-methods cross-sectional design involving 78 participants. The sample included elderly residents, community members, healthcare workers, and local leaders. Quantitative data came from structured questionnaires. Qualitative information was gathered through interviews, focus group discussions, and document reviews. Results showed that distance to facilities, poor transport options, and dependence on public health centers limited access. Socioeconomic barriers, including a lack of insurance, high medical costs, and low income, exacerbated the problem. Quality of care was mostly rated average. Long waits, limited explanations from providers, and a lack of geriatric specialists were common concerns. Ageism and weakening family support added further challenges. The study recommends decentralizing services, expanding mobile clinics, training more geriatric staff, improving financial protection, and reducing discrimination. These steps can help ensure that elderly people in rural Tanzania receive fair, respectful, and effective healthcare
Challenges of Community Participation in Road Maintenance Projects: Evidence from Babati District Council, Tanzania
Community participation is promoted as a strategy to enhance the sustainability and cost-effectiveness of road maintenance, particularly in developing nations like Tanzania. However, its implementation often faces significant challenges. This study evaluates the specific challenges hindering effective community participation in road maintenance projects within the Babati District Council, Tanzania. A mixed-methods approach was employed, collecting quantitative data through structured questionnaires from 399 community members selected via simple random sampling, and qualitative insights from key informant interviews with local leaders and TARURA Regional Manager. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. The findings reveal that community participation is severely constrained by a combination of factors: a critical lack of awareness about projects, significant financial constraints among community members, weak coordination between local government and residents, an absence of technical skills and training, prevalent corruption and mismanagement of funds, and poor communication and transparency in planning. These challenges collectively undermine community trust, willingness, and capacity to engage meaningfully. The study concludes that for community participation to be effective, a multi-pronged strategy is essential
Counseling on Clean and Healthy Living Behavior in Improving Public Health Levels
This activity aims to enhance public awareness and participation in implementing Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat or PHBS) through interactive counseling methods, education in elementary schools, and community service initiatives. Counseling is conducted through question-and-answer sessions to ensure participants' understanding, while education in elementary schools teaches proper handwashing practices as a preventive measure. Additionally, community service involves the public in maintaining environmental cleanliness. The evaluation results indicate improved public understanding of PHBS based on pretest and posttest scores. The average score of housewives increased by 11.61%, while elementary school students showed an improvement of 19.71%. This increase demonstrates that interaction-based counseling methods are more effective than one-way lectures in enhancing comprehension and behavioral change. With growing public awareness of PHBS, it is expected that healthy behaviors can be consistently practiced in daily life, contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment. This study recommends an interactive approach and hands-on practice in health education programs to enhance the effectiveness of long-term behavioral change
Between Promise and Constraints: Social Justice, Development, and Cohesion in Eritrea
In recent years, social justice has become a central theme in global debates on equality, human rights, development, and political reform. Yet, much of this discourse remains shaped by Western frameworks, with limited scholarship engaging African perspectives on what constitutes a just society – and even less examining how African states themselves operationalize justice in pursuit of national development and peace. This paper contributes to filling that gap through a qualitative, multi-method study of Eritrea, where social justice is conceived not only as a moral imperative but also as a practical foundation for sustainable development, national cohesion, and long-term peace. The analysis traces the roots and manifestations of Eritrea’s approach, highlighting achievements in areas such as gender equality, social protection, and inclusive development, while also acknowledging persistent structural challenges. Eritrea’s pursuit of social justice is substantive, yet progress remains uneven and contingent on overcoming resource constraints, entrenched norms, and institutional limitations. Ultimately, Eritrea’s experience provides valuable insights for broader debates on social justice in low-income and post-conflict contexts, illustrating both the possibilities of state-led progress and the enduring obstacles to transformative change
