    Get PDF
Background: Divorce is a significant life event that can have profound effects on children, particularly in their educational attainment. Previous research suggests that parental divorce can lead to various negative consequences, including psychological distress, social instability, and economic challenges. However, there is limited empirical evidence examining the impact of parental divorce on children's educational attainment in Indonesia. Methods: This study utilizes data from the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) waves 3, 4, and 5 to examine the educational outcomes of children with divorced parents compared to those with married parents. The analysis explores the relationship between parental divorce and children's educational attainment while considering potential influencing factors such as maternal characteristics and the possibility of reverse causality. Findings: The study found that children from divorced families generally had lower educational attainment than those from intact families. However, children whose parents were currently divorced had better educational outcomes than children whose parents remained married. This paradoxical finding suggests the influence of factors such as maternal education and potential reverse causality. Additionally, the study found that the age at which divorce occurs plays a crucial role divorce at an early age has a more negative impact on educational attainment due to children's higher dependency on parents and limited coping mechanisms. However, no significant differences were found between boys and girls in terms of educational outcomes after divorce. Conclusions: Parental divorce negatively impacts children's educational attainment, primarily due to economic hardship, changes in parenting roles, and psychological distress. However, some children from currently divorced families show better educational outcomes, possibly due to maternal characteristics and other mediating factors. Novelty/Originality of this Article: This study contributes to the existing literature by providing empirical evidence on the impact of parental divorce on children's educational attainment in Indonesia, a context with limited prior research

    No full text
Background: The Card Sort method, a student-centered active learning strategy, has been widely studied for its effectiveness in improving understanding and retention of information. This study investigates the impact of the Card Sort method on the learning outcomes of Fiqh students at MI Ma’arif NU 02 Bantarbarang Purbalingga. The research aims to determine whether the implementation of this method results in significant improvements compared to traditional teaching approaches. Methods: This research employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, specifically the Nonequivalent Control Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The study population consists of all sixth-grade students, with a purposive sampling technique selecting Class VI A as the experimental group and Class VI B as the control group. Data were collected through questionnaires and tests, and analyzed using simple linear regression and the Independent Sample T-Test in SPSS version 23. Findings: The results indicate that the Card Sort method significantly influences students’ Fiqh learning outcomes. The experimental group, which used the Card Sort method, achieved an average final test score of 79.40, while the control group, which relied on conventional methods, scored 75.40. Statistical tests show a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05), confirming the significant effect of the Card Sort method. Additionally, the T-Test results (t = 8.448 > 2.010) further support the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0), proving that the method enhances student learning outcomes. Conclusions: The study concludes that the Card Sort method effectively improves student learning outcomes compared to conventional methods in Fiqh education. Students in the experimental group demonstrated higher engagement, better understanding, and improved test performance. To further optimize learning outcomes, students should be encouraged to actively participate in class activities, while teachers should implement creative teaching strategies and diverse instructional media. Novelty/Originality of this Article: This study contributes to the field of active learning strategies in religious education, specifically in Fiqh learning, which has been less explored in previous studies

One such strategy is the expanded development of English language education to strengthen human resources. Foreign a significant challenge in the learning process is the limited availability of both formal and informal platforms for students to practice the language, which hampers their progress. For EFL learners, reading is essential for acquiring the language, expanding vocabulary, and gaining broader knowledge and experiences. Methods: The research was carried out with 25 second-year students from class XI Science 1 at MA Darul Muhajirin Praya. The research utilized a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, implemented over two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four phases: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were gathered through tests, observation sheets, and documentation. Findings: The findings indicated a significant improvement in students' reading comprehension, marked by an average score increase of 8.97% from the pre-test to the second post-test. During the pre-test, only 1 student (4%) met the minimum passing standard (KKM), with an average score of 54.6. In the first post-test, 9 students (29.45%) achieved the passing score, with the average rising to 70.88. By the second post-test, 19 students (76%) had passed, with the average score reaching 77.24. Conclusion: This study concludes that applying skimming and scanning techniques greatly enhances students' reading comprehension. Incorporating these strategies into classroom English instruction effectively improves students' understanding of narrative texts, as evidenced by the findings of the action research. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study highlights the effectiveness of integrating skimming and scanning techniques into classroom English instruction for EFL learners. The novelty lies in demonstrating, through classroom action research, how these strategies significantly improve students’ comprehension of narrative texts in a measurable and systematic way
