Effects of Fuel Injection Timing on Operation Characteristics of Small Diesel Engines with EGR Using BDF

    No full text
The biofuel used in diesel engines (BDF) has a higher kinematic viscosity and ignition point than gas oil. Therefore, it is considered to be disadvantageous for fuel injection systems. The purpose of the study we conducted was to understand the effects of oxygen in fuel in the combustion process of diesel engines. To this end, engine performance testing using BDF and gas oil was performed. As a result, although there was a difference in the exhaust gas characteristics between using gas oil and using BDF, the brake thermal efficiencies of both were the same. Therefore, there is a possibility that the differences in combustion conditions during the combustion period do not significantly affect the engine output generation. This study conducted a performance test of changing the fuel injection timing using gas oil and BDF in a small diesel engine, confirming the effects of fuel ignitability on the ignition delay.departmental bulletin pape

Effect of fatigue on rowing motion during a 2-min full-power rowing on a canoe ergometer

    No full text
In canoe sprint, it is important to maintain an optimum motion from the start to the end. Therefore, it is essential to continuously evaluate the rowing technique and identify tendencies in motion changes to understand the points to keep good motion even during periods of fatigue. This study aimed to investigate changes in motion resulting from fatigue during a 2-min full-power rowing on a canoe ergometer. The study involved five male kayakers from a university canoe club. A high-speed camera was installed on the side of the ergometer for recording the rowing motion and we acquired positional coordinate data of the shaft tip for duration of 2 min. Subsequently, the time when the velocity of the shaft tip starts to decrease was defined as “catch,” and the time when the velocity of the shaft tip starts to increase was defined as “pull end.” According to this definition, we analyzed the rowing motion over the 2-min duration. The results revealed that the shaft angle decreased and the shaft tip position became farther and higher at the “catch” for the latter half of the rowing motion. In addition, the shaft tip position became lower and shaft tip velocity decreased at the “pull end” for the latter half, and the time between the “catch” and the “pull end” extended.departmental bulletin pape

Changes of the Soluble Proteins in Polished Rice after Storage

Yoshikawa eggplant is a traditional vegetable at Sabae city in Fukui prefecture. In this study, we examined its seasonal variation of composition about taste for three years from 2018 through 2020. Water content became low, and brix value became high in November through three years. Fructose content was significantly (p<0.001) higher than glucose content, and sucrose content was very low compared to fructose and glucose. Gamma-aminobutyric acid and arginine became low since late in October through three years. Total amino acids content was changed by the year, and did not show constant behavior.departmental bulletin pape

Investigation of a field test to assess physical fitness factors related to speed endurance in sprinters.

    No full text
The purpose of this study was to investigate a field test to assess physical fitness factors related to speed endurance in sprinters. Sixteen university sprinters and jumpers were asked to perform a 300 m sprint, a continuous jump test and various tests of athletic ability, and the relationship between the rate of speed maintenance in the 300 m sprint and the various tests was investigated. The main results were as follows: (1) The running speed in the 300 m sprint peaked in the 50-100 m section and then decreased; the 300 m speed maintenance rate was 82.5 ± 4.2%. (2) The jump height in the continuous jump test showed a peak in the 1-5th jumps and decreased thereafter. The jump height maintenance rate in the continuous jump test was 83.5 ± 5.2%. (3) No significant correlations were found between the 300 m running speed maintenance rate and the jump height maintenance rate in the continuous jump test or any of the physical fitness factors. These results suggest that the method of the continuous jump test should be improved to assess the physical fitness related to speed endurance in sprinters.departmental bulletin pape

Relationship between subjective walking frequency during class and bone density

    No full text
Maintaining adequate bone density is important for reducing the risk of requiring nursing care. Teachers who walk around their classrooms while instructing students take frequent steps amounting to light physical activity. Thus, teachers who are more active within the classroom might have higher bone density. We examined the influence of walking while teaching and sex on bone density in teachers. The study participants were 107 teachers classified as high- or low-frequency walkers based on their subjective self-ratings. The quantitative ultrasound method was used to measure bone density, and osteo sono-assessment index (OSI) was used as the evaluation variable. We carried out an analysis of covariance using age as the covariate. OSI was significantly higher in the high-frequency group than in the low-frequency group for walkers of both sexes. In addition, the average OSI value in the low-frequency group exceeded the standard values for the average age of both sexes. In short, teachers appear to have high overall bone density. Increasing a teacher’s physical activity within the classroom might further increase bone density.departmental bulletin pape

Fabrication and Characterization of OLED Devices Containing Cyclodextrin Polymer Layers as Ecology devises -m-MTDATA/PBD System-

    No full text
In this study, we report an investigation of the fabrication and characterization of OLEDs containing cyclodextrin polymer layers. The OLEDs was fabrication by deposition of 4,4',4''-Tris[phenyl(m-tolyl)amino]triphenylamine (m-MTDATA), cyclodextrin polymer(α-・β-・γ-CDP), 2-(4-tert-Biphenylyl)-5-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (PBD), LiF, and Al on the ITO-glass. The OLEDs indicates the green emission, which is due to the fluorescence of m-MTDATA and PBD (exciplex) in the presence of CDP, and the highest luminance reached 1947 cd m-² (Non). Our study revealed that the weakening of the inclusion effect, caused by an increase in cavity size, facilitates the extraction of exciplex emission. Moreover, we observed that the presence of CDP induces structural modifications at the interface, thereby affecting the energy transfer pathway during the excited state process in the OLED. These findings provide important insights into the design of exciplex-based OLEDs and their potential applications in the field of organic electronics.departmental bulletin pape

On the Development of the Complement of the Verb clean

    No full text
The verb clean, one of the representative verbs of removal, is a locative alternation verb. In this paper we investigate the development of the complement of the verb based upon data gathered from EEBO (Early English Books Online) and COHA (The Corpus of Historical American English) and divide the complement of the verb into four types: (a) NP-AGENT V NP-LOCATION of NP-LOCATUM (CN), (b) NP-AGENT V NP-LOCATION of NP-LOCATUM (AN), (c) NP-AGENT V NP-LOCATUM from NP-LOCATION, (d) NP-AGENT V NP-LOCATION from NP-LOCATUM, among which type (b) did not develop in the history of the English language, which has much to do with the semantic rivalry between clean and cleanse.departmental bulletin pape
