Large-scale playground equipment production at Takeda by student Report on PBL activities at the FUT practical learning exercise
Fukui University of Technology has established an 8-credit PBL course for 2nd through 4th year students. However, due to COVID-19, it had not achieved sufficient educational outcomes for two years. This paper reports on the activities of this subject in 2022. What we worked on this time was the production of large playground equipment to be installed within a nature-rich playground for children in Takeda, Maruoka-tyou, Fukui Prefecture. A design competition was held among the students who participated in the 2021 lecture, and the design to be implemented was selected at that time. In the 2022 lecture, based on the design, the students were roughly divided into the following tasks: 1) review of the design for implementation, 2) creation of basic design drawings, 3) creation of drawings for fabrication, 4) material processing, 5) assembly, and 6) installation.departmental bulletin pape
Study of in-situ measuring device for γ-ray irradiation of PVA-KI gel dosimeter
In recent years, in radiation cancer therapy, a technique for easily visualizing radiation and evaluating accurate dose distribution is required. In our laboratory, we have developed a gel dosimeter made from PVA, KI, borax, and fructose, which have the same composition as biological components. Furthermore, in order to clarify the effect of radiation irradiation on the PVA-KI gel dosimeter, we developed a separate type in-situ measurement device that enables in-situ measurement of light absorption of the gel during irradiation. In this study, in order to clarify the characteristics of the PVA-KI gel as a dosimeter, we compared the measurement results using a separate in-situ measurement device and the measurement results using an ionization chamber. Furthermore, we tried to clarify the characteristics of γ-ray irradiation to PVA-KI gel by comparing with the results of X-ray irradiation.departmental bulletin pape

Optimal Design of Pose-tensioned T-girder Bridges
Post-tensioned T-girder (PCT) bridges are the most commonly constructed types of bridges. The design process for this type of bridge is carried out on the basis of minor modifications of the standard design collections proposed by the Civil Engineering Research Institute. In this study, the cross-section of the PCT girder bridge is optimized using the particle swarm method (PSO), and the economic efficiency is discussed by comparing with the standard design.departmental bulletin pape

Investigation of Applicability to High Burnup of Small Modular Reactor Fuel
Recently, Small Modular Reactor has been investigated as a candidate of future reactor, which is safer and more economical than present reactor, in the world. Since the SMR is intended for use in remote areas where the power grid is not well developed, long-term operation without refueling, that is, high burnup of fuel is desirable. Therefore, the introduction of fuel enriched to about 20wt% is being considered. However, in a previous study, a rapid increase in the FP gas release rate was confirmed in the behavior analysis of high burnup fuel of 120 GWd/tU, suggesting that suppression of FP gas emission is the key to achieving long-term operation. On the other hand, considering the operation of SMR in areas where the power grid is well developed, it is expected to play a role in promoting carbon-free power generation by replacing thermal power generation by performing load-following operation in combination with renewable energy. However, in this case, it is necessary to confirm that the load fluctuation to the fuel caused by load-following operation does not cause fatigue failure. Since both problems are caused by burning SMR fuel to high burnup, this study focused on evaluation of FP gas release and fatigue under load-following operation. This study showed FP gas behavior in high burnup and that FP gas release can be reduced by increasing UO₂ grain size. Furthermore, this study also showed that daily load following operation doesn’t cause fatigue failure on SMR fuel.departmental bulletin pape

Effect of Shear Span Ratio on Structural Performance of Precast Reinforced Concrete Core Walls with Horizontal Tied Rebars
Precast core walls in high-rise buildings are effective for construction because they can be built more quickly than cast-in-place core walls. In this study, lateral loading test results were analyzed on wall columns simulating the corner and the area near the corner of an L-shaped core wall with horizontal tied rebars. The specimen consisted of four square-section precast columns. The vertical joints between the precast columns were grouted with high-strength mortar. Each precast column had cotters at the vertical joint, and horizontal tied rebars were concentrated at the second and third floor levels, and the mid height level of the first story. Based on the results of lateral loading tests, the effect of shear span ratio on structural performance of precast reinforced concrete core walls was clarified.departmental bulletin pape
A case study on effectiveness of strength training for a student golfer : Focusing on the length of time it takes to turn from amateur to professional
This study aimed to investigate the effects of approximately six months of strength training practice on maximal strength and power in a male student golfer, an amateur-turned-pro golfer. The results showed that the subject experienced an increase in lean body mass, one repetition maximum of bench press and half-squat, and in CMJ jumping height. Moreover, during competition season, the average stroke counts of the subject decreased after training. In a tournament in which professionals competed, the subjects who were amateurs won the championship , indicating that strength training had an indirect positive effect on golf performance. It was found that the interruption of strength training at the beginning of the competition season had a positive effect on golf performance by providing time for competitive golf practice. However, a long interruption in training, approximately six months, had a smaller effect on lean body mass but was associated with a decrease in maximal strength and power performance.departmental bulletin pape
Record development of Japanese top male high school sprinters during university periods.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of the record development of top Japanese male high school sprinters at university period. For 847 male competitors (100m: 296, 200m: 275, 400m: 276) ranked in the top 100 of the Japanese high school rankings for boys 100m, 200m and 400m in 2014-2018, we examined their high school personal best record (high school PB), university PB and record development during university The main results were as follows: (1) For 100 m, high school PB: 10.63±0.10s, university PB: 10.62±0.22s, record development during university: 0.00±0.20s, probability of breaking a PB during university: 54.7% (162 out of 296). (2) For 200 m, high school PB: 21.49±0.20s, university PB: 21.52±0.51s, record development during university: -0.04±0.47s, probability of breaking a PB during university: 49.5% (136 out of 275). (2) For 400 m, high school PB: 47.97±0.51s, university PB: 48.14±1.22s, record development during university: -0.17±1.09s, probability of breaking a PB during university: 48.2% (133 out of 276). These results suggest that the first goal of coaching university sprinters should be to break their high school PBs.departmental bulletin pape
