In modern society, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has experienced continual growth and become deeply ingrained in our daily lives, especially with recent advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) significantly impacting various aspects of society. However, Japan faces a significant shortage of ICT professionals, a deficit estimated at approximately 180,000 individuals in 2018, and projected to soar to around 450,000 by 2030. Therefore, the demand for information literacy and programming skills has surged. The introduction of new curriculum guidelines seeks to enrich programming education from elementary through high school levels, with programming education becoming compulsory in elementary schools. Consequently, numerous programming-related events and workshops are being conducted across various domains to foster interest and curiosity in ICT. Nonetheless, challenges persist in fostering continuous learning at subsequent educational stages, particularly in transitioning to text-based program development, task setting, and fostering problem-solving abilities, necessitating innovative approaches. This four-year study aimed at devising seamless educational strategies for transitioning first-year university students from introductory education utilizing Graphical User Interface(GUI)-based languages to programming proficiency using Character User Interface(CUI)-based languages. This article presents the findings regarding differences in learners’ motivations across three distinct methods of transitioning, evaluated through the SIEM assessment scale.departmental bulletin pape

Developing a curriculum is a comprehensive process that involves constant exploration, experimentation, implementation, and reflection of not only what students need to succeed, but also what teachers and the overall educational community need as well (Richards, 2001) (1). A curriculum document serves as a vision and mission statement for an entire institution. The document is divided into more parts by the active professionals – administrators, teachers, general educators – who lead the educational community while also being instructions for faculty and guidance for students. Eventually, the curriculum document becomes specific classroom objectives, content, and materials that are consumed by the student body. This is a constant process that requires active and critical engagement at every stage because curricula will need to be adjusted based on specific educational communities and the external factors that impact their environments. There is, however, a danger to repeat a process that is known and comfortable, even if it has dysfunctional elements. This paper is an attempt to identify and confront challenges to curriculum reform when tendencies and organizational cultures can lead us to remaining content even while external factors demand progressive change.departmental bulletin pape

    小型モジュール炉燃料の高燃焼度化適用性検討(第2報)

In recent years, small modular reactors have been developed in various countries around the world, and are scheduled to be put into practical use around 2030. The advantages of small modular reactors include high inherent safety and small initial investment. However, because natural circulation is used to enhance safety in the accident, it has been pointed out that the thermal efficiency is low and that economies of scale, such as those of large commercial reactors, are not available, making them fundamentally less economical. As one of the means to overcome these disadvantages, design modifications to increase the core outlet temperature and improve thermal efficiency have been considered. However, increasing the core outlet temperature is contrary to high burnup in terms of cladding corrosion and pellet-cladding interaction. Therefore, as the realization of small modular reactors approaches, we investigated the applicability of high fuel burnup using more realistic core conditions and confirmed that it is possible.departmental bulletin pape

“Openness” in traditional Japanese housing has two distinct images: courtyard house, a nature-oriented “openness” and machiya, where the “openness” can be felt through the store, where interaction occurs. This study aims to find how this design logic is inherited and develop in contemporary Japanese house. Using text description in Jutaku Tokushu magazine of 36 years, text mining and manual text analysis is conducted. From the text mining analysis, keywords considered to be describing “openness” are selected and the changes in their frequency of usage is analyzed. From the result, the general trend of “openness” shows an increase on intention to be “connected” with the surrounding. These significant changes on the usage of words are most apparent in the year range of 2012-2018. The manual text analysis result shows that there is a shift in Japanese contemporary house design that reflects a more direct approach in both the urban and suburban area. Furthermore, we can assume that the openness in urban area is not directed toward natural surroundings but more towards the community, an openness based on interaction and communication on top of visual openness based on the most often used architectural elements used: space/room and openings.departmental bulletin pape

    動詞emptyとdrainの補部構造の史的発達について

    Get PDF
This paper aims to reveal the development of the complements of the verbs empty and drain occurring in the ‘NP-AGENT V NP-LOCATION of NP-LOCATUM’ frame and the ‘NP-AGENT V NP-LOCATUM from NP-LOCATION’ frame in the history of the English language. The syntactic frames are subclassed into four types: (a) NP-AGENT V NP-LOCATION of NP-LOCATUM (CN), (b) NP-AGENT V NP-LOCATION of NP-LOCATUM (AN), (c) NP-AGENT V NP-LOCATUM (CN) from NP-LOCATION, (d) NP-AGENT V NP-LOCATUM (AN) from NP-LOCATION. Our investigation, which is based upon data gathered from EEBO (Early English Books Online) and COHA (The Corpus of Historical American English), shows that regarding the verb empty the ‘NP-AGENT V NP-LOCATION of NP-LOCATUM (AN)’ frame is most dominant in the Early Modern English period, and from the Late Modern English period to the Present-day English period the number of examples of the ‘NP-AGENT V NP-LOCATION of NP-LOCATUM (CN)’ frame is much larger than that of the other frames whereas regarding the verb drain the number of examples of the ‘NP-AGENT V NP-LOCATION of NP-LOCATUM (CN)’ frame and that of the ‘NP-AGENT V NP-LOCATUM (CN) from NP-LOCATION’ frame are almost the same in the Modern English period and the Present-day English period; however, the ‘NP-AGENT V NP-LOCATION of NP-LOCATUM (AN)’ frame is far more dominant than the other syntactic frames throughout the history of the language.departmental bulletin pape

In this study we focused on the operability evaluation and improvement of the accelerator pedal in off-road vehicles. Unlike on-road passenger cars, it is used under high intensity vibration conditions. The disturbance from rough roads affects the operability of the accelerator pedal. To evaluate an accelerator pedal operability, feedback questionnaire is common method for evaluation, but it is difficult to eliminate the driver’s personality and subjectivity affect to the evaluation. Therefore, we investigated a method for evaluating the operability of the accelerator pedal in a vibration environment using a vibration experiment device that simulates driving on rough terrain. We also used this method to study specifications for improving the operability of the accelerator pedal. We measured myoelectric potential and considered factors that improve the operability of the accelerator pedal.departmental bulletin pape

In 2022, the Department of Sports and Health Sciences had initiated a project to promote student research activities. This project aimed to increase opportunities for undergraduate students to become involved in research activities from an early stage and develop an environment wherein undergraduate students considered graduate school as a career option. Herein, we will report the efforts of this project over 2 years, from 2022 to 2023, investigating the status of undergraduate students’ participation in research activities and effects on increasing the number of students attending graduate school. The specific activities of this project involved supporting undergraduate students (1) to go off-campus for data collection and (2) present their research in academic conferences and research meetings. The number of conference presentations significantly increased during the 2 years that this project was implemented compared to that before the project was initiated. Furthermore, two students selected graduate school as their career path during the project implementation period. Selection of graduate school as a career path had increased compared to that before the initiation of the project. The reasons for this was thought to be that students became interested in research by having opportunities to come into contact with research from an early stage through active activities, such as data collection activities and academic conference participations.departmental bulletin pape
