Modernizing public health STI and HIV testing services in Ontario: The GetaKit Project
In light of increasing rates of sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs) in Canada, as a group comprised primarily of frontline healthcare workers, we undertook a healthcare practice reform in Ontario to establish the first nurse-led asynchronous online STBBI testing platform, known as GetaKit.ca. The website offered clinically indicated testing for STBBIs based on public health guidelines and resources for preventative health services. Services operated in collaboration with public health units, who acted as local ordering providers for STBBI testing and facilitated linkage to care services for persons with positive test results or who required additional health follow-up. Results from the first 12 months of operating GetaKit.ca showed high uptake of this service, with 3,497 orders for STBBI testing from eligible persons, of whom 59% belonged to an equity denied group. A total of 83 new diagnoses (positivity rate of 2.4%) were identified in persons who completed testing via GetaKit.ca, all of whom were linked to treatment and care through their respective health units. We interpret these findings to suggest that our reform was able to expand access to persons with undiagnosed STBBIs.
En tant que groupe composé principalement de travailleurs de santé de première ligne confronté à la persistance et à l\u27augmentation des taux d\u27infections transmises sexuellement et par le sang (ITSS) au Canada, nous avons entrepris une réforme des pratiques de soins de santé en Ontario afin d\u27établir la première plateforme asynchrone de dépistage des ITSS en ligne dirigée par des infirmières, connue sous le nom de GetaKit.ca. Le site propose des tests de dépistage des ITSS cliniquement indiqués, basés sur les directives de santé publique, ainsi que des ressources pour les services de santé préventifs. Les services fonctionnent en collaboration avec les agences de santé publique, qui agissent en tant que prestataires locaux et facilitent le lien avec les services de soins pour les personnes dont les résultats de test sont positifs ou qui ont besoin d\u27un suivi médical supplémentaire. What is the Task of Frege’s Criteria of Referentiality?
It is generally assumed that Frege’s solution to the problem of referential indeterminacy in the first volume of Grundgesetze is based on a contextualist conception of reference that is spelt out by his criteria of referentiality. The present paper argues that this assumption is hardly consistent with Frege’s remarks on the task of the criteria in the second volume. They leave no doubt that the criteria are not to be understood as explanations of the concept of reference, but as explanations of the requirement that in the exact sciences all concepts must have sharp boundaries. The crux of the problem of referential indeterminacy is that, to sharply delimit the boundaries of a vague or ambiguous concept, we have almost only concepts at our disposal that also lack sharp boundaries. To solve it, we need a non-inductive method for the complete determination of concepts. It is provided by Frege’s criteria of referentiality. They define a kind of “holistic” method for the complete determination of concepts according to which vague and ambiguous concepts must be completely determined in a reciprocal manner
Sufficient To Have Stood: The Lady Unparalyzed in Milton’s A Maske Presented at Ludlow Castle
One of the central figures of John Milton’s A Maske Presented at Ludlow Castle is that of the protagonist, the Lady, paralyzed in a chair arguing with the villain Comus. This article argues that while the Lady does argue with Comus from the chair, she is not necessarily paralyzed, and that her potential ability to move creates space for productions to emphasize her virtue, her agency, and the difference between her experience of the masque and that of her brothers. These possibilities connect the masque to early modern masquing and broader theatrical traditions that emphasized female agency and voice
Social Media in Pediatric Rehabilitation Research: Affordances of Facebook and Twitter for Knowledge Translation
This study examines the affordances of Facebook and Twitter as knowledge translation tools in pediatric rehabilitation and potentially other fields of research. Findings from content and discourse analyses of a private Facebook group and public Twitter account suggest that social media facilitates engagement and collaboration with stakeholders. Implementation of dialogic communication principles on Twitter increases the exposure, reach, and engagement of a network. Establishing an online community on Facebook develops a common understanding of issues, builds relationships and the promotes stakeholder involvement in research. By acknowledging the affordances of the two social media platforms, researchers can consider using Twitter for end-of-grant KT and Facebook groups for integrated knowledge translation.

Partnership as an entangled space of becoming: Reflections on a collaborative journey
Two university staff members and two former students reflect on their collaborative journey, beginning in 2019 and continuing through the Covid-19 pandemic. The paper examines motivations for engaging in Student-Staff Partnership (SSP) projects, evolving understandings of partnership, and challenges faced. Rooted in Freirean principles of hope, transformation, dialogue, and collaboration, the partnership fostered reciprocal relationships and disrupted traditional hierarchies. The collaboration began with a student-designed mentoring scheme and evolved into a deeper inquiry into equity, social justice, and supportive learning environments. Despite systemic challenges, the partnership thrived on micro-moments of joy, connection, and mutual support, highlighting the transformative potential of Freirean partnership. The reflection underscores the importance of process over product, emphasizing mutual respect, dialogue, and hope in creating meaningful educational experiences
Evaluating student partnership models in Australian universities: A benchmarking study
This research investigates the diversity and typology of Students as Partners (SaP) models across Australian universities, providing a framework for benchmarking institutional engagement with student partnerships. By reviewing public information and employing document and critical discourse analysis (CDA) on 38 university websites, the study highlights variations in SaP initiatives, ranging from comprehensive to not evident. The study adapts Barrie’s (2007) four-quadrant framework to categorise SaP practices as: no or limited engagement, fragmented, targeted, or emancipatory. The findings reveal significant differences in how universities govern, promote, and implement SaP, with only a notable few demonstrating authentic strategic partnerships. SaP is widely recognised as a critical and transformative strategy that acknowledges student agency in engaging with how universities are governed and how curricula can be designed. Therefore, this study aims to advance current SaP practices by providing a benchmark for the various configurations of SaP at Australian higher education institutions
Improving equality, diversity, and inclusion in staff-student partnerships: A constructive framework
Staff-student partnerships have become increasingly popular in educational spaces. Although staff-student partnerships have been shown to improve the inclusivity of assessment practices and increase curriculum engagement among underprivileged student partners, student partners still face barriers to access and face challenges when engaging in such opportunities. This makes it particularly important that all stakeholders involved, including institutions, staff, and students, actively work towards creating a cultural shift that celebrates and amplifies the minority voice. This paper is grounded both in current research and in evidence from a transdisciplinary staff-student partnership project from Imperial College London. During this project, team members conducted interviews and focus group discussions with students and staff from diverse backgrounds in order to develop a multimedia resource platform on best assessment practices. This paper provides a constructive framework, split into three themes, for promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in staff-student partnerships. The three overarching themes involve improving the inclusivity of selection processes, creating a flexible and trust-based working culture, and addressing power dynamics inherent in staff-student partnerships
