A systematic realist synthesis of digital interventions for enhancing mental health at work: contexts, mechanisms, and outcomes

    No full text
Background Digital interventions (DIs) have emerged as promising tools for promoting mental health in the workplace. However, evidence on if, how, and under what circumstances they affect positive outcomes requires elucidation. This systematic realist review aimed to synthesize current knowledge on contexts, mechanisms, and outcomes of workplace DIs to enhance mental health at work. Methods The review integrates elements of both systematic and realist review methodologies. Forty-four workplace mental health DIs studies were gathered through a systematic electronic search using PsycNet, Scopus, Web of Science, and PubPsych. Results Results showed that demographics, previous mental health, and personal skills were the main individual context factors influencing the success of DIs. Key mechanisms were DIs usage, frequency, adherence, and relevance of content triggering positive perceptual shifts. Results showed improvements in psychological resources, wellbeing, and affect. Reduced ill-health symptoms were also evidenced. Five propositions were developed on the contexts and mechanisms under which digital interventions yield positive outcomes for mental health at work. Conclusions This study highlights several areas where future research can expand our understanding of DIs in the workplace by examining interactions between mechanisms and cultural aspects influencing implementation

Social and emotional learning - Portuguese and Spanish teachers’ representations and classroom practices

    No full text
Introduction: This study aims to uncover the representations and practices of Portuguese and Spanish school teachers regarding social and emotional learning (SEL), hoping to contribute to filling a perceived gap in the empirical literature of these two countries. Methods: This is an exploratory qualitative study with a convenience sample of 68 Portuguese and Spanish teachers who responded to an open-ended questionnaire. The teachers’ responses were analyzed following a hybrid approach to the method of thematic analysis. As an extension to the study, we checked the level of similarity of the perspectives and practices expressed by the Portuguese and the Spanish teachers. Results: The findings reveal the participants’ awareness of the theoretical foundations of SEL with an emphasis on the association between SEL and students’ mental health. In terms of classroom practices, they tended to implement activities involving students in reflecting on their feelings and emotions to facilitate the development of healthy social and emotional behavior. No significant differences were found between teachers from the two countries. Discussion: Our findings echo previous research showing that teaching SEL cannot be a process carried out haphazardly or intuitively. Teachers who are well-trained and prepared to teach are more willing to change their practices and more likely to implement SEL in their classrooms. Therefore, the development of teaching skills in SEL should be part of initial and in-service teacher training programs to become competent in promoting a whole school approach

Persistence and Market Timing Ability of Cryptocurrency Funds

Growth in cryptocurrency funds has followed the wider expansion of the cryptocurrency sector. In this paper, we study the performance persistence and market timing ability of cryptocurrency fund managers. We show that cryptocurrency funds produce remarkable levels of abnormal returns. Moreover, sorting by previous alpha provides compelling evidence of persistence in abnormal returns. Funds with previous excess abnormal returns have high ex post abnormal returns, while cryptocurrency factors explain only a small proportion of the variation in these returns. An ex post outperformance among funds displaying ex ante market timing skills is found, while these ex post abnormal returns can, in turn, be attributed to managerial timing abilities

Treball Final de Grau en Grau en Traducció i Interpretació. Codi: TI0983.

Reflective Contribution: Establishing Planetary Boundaries to Safeguard the Health of the Planet: Ecosystems as Victims and Legal Interests

    No full text
CRIMICLIMA seminarThe first session of the CRIMICLIMA UJI-2023-02 seminar explored the connections between green criminology, planetary justice and environmental criminal law. Through presentations by Gauthier Martens, Rita Faria, Pablo Serra-Palao, and Nigel South, the limitations of existing legislation in addressing the ecological challenges of the Anthropocene were explored. The speakers emphasised the importance of recognising ecosystems as victims with moral and legal status, rethinking ecological crimes beyond formal legality and integrating scientific thresholds, such as planetary boundaries, into criminal law. The seminar also emphasised the urgency of holding corporate and state actors accountable and proposed a pluralist theory of ecological justice. Overall, the seminar called for a normative transformation towards an ecological criminal policy based on resilience, science, and interspecies justice

A Review on Pulsed Laser-Based Synthesis of Carbon and Graphene Quantum Dots in Liquids: From Fundamentals, Chemistry to Bio Applications and Beyond

    No full text
The constantly growing interest in zero-dimensional carbon-based nanomaterials such as carbon quantum dots (CQDs) and graphene quantum dots (GQDs) as the vital components in advancing various bio-related, catalysis, and energy-relevant applications has inspired nanotechnology research centered mainly on their synthesis and modifications for the betterment of their exceptional features including their strong and tunable fluorescence. Among the multitude of synthesis approaches in fabricating CQDs and GQDs, laser-based synthesis in liquids, such as pulsed laser ablation in liquids (PLAL) and pulsed laser fragmentation in liquids (PLFL), has emerged as a more beneficial technique owing to its versatility, flexibility, green synthesis process, and ease of scalability. With the modern trend of employing this method for CQDs and GQDs synthesis, this review article will revisit the foundation of laser synthesis in liquids, starting from its fundamental mechanism of nanoparticle formation to the effect of different variables such as laser parameters (e.g., laser energy, laser wavelength, frequency), chosen liquids, and the starting carbon material to the final attributes (morphological, optical, and surface) of CQDs and GQDs. In this paper, we will also address the different post-laser treatments, such as modifications and conjugation, and how they affect the properties of CQDs and GQDs. We will also emphasize the diverse applications of laser-synthesized CQDs and GQDs, ranging from bioapplications to beyond bio-related applications. This article hoped to provide practical insights for researchers to develop further laser synthesis in liquids to produce carbon-based nanomaterials such as CQDs and GQDs and their applicability to other applications.Funding for open access charge: CRUE-Universitat Jaume

Tratamiento jurídico penal del falso cultural

    No full text

However, sleep hygiene habits in this population have worsened in recent years. This may be due to the increasing use of electronic devices, as well as demanding academic schedules and extracurricular activities (1). Sleep deprivation affects cognitive functions, disrupts appetite regulation, depresses the immune system, and contributes to the development of metabolic disorders (2). OBJECTIVES This retrospective observational analytical study with a sample of 109 adolescents aims primarily to evaluate the extent to which sleep habits and disorders are influenced by lifestyle factors such as diet, physical activity, and screen exposure. RESULTS Descriptive analysis shows that 33% of the total sample exhibits sleep problems, characterized by more irregular sleep patterns, poorer diet quality, lower physical activity levels, and greater nighttime screen use. Bivariate analysis reveals statistically significant differences between adolescents with and without sleep problems in weekend bedtime, diet quality, and sleep irregularity. Multivariate analysis (LDA) achieves accurate classification of adolescents with or without sleep disturbances using only four key variables. CONCLUSION The study demonstrates a significant relationship between diet, physical activity, and screen use with sleep disturbances in adolescents
