〈Originals〉Management of painful sensation with novel carbon dioxide laser : an open study

publisher〈Abstract〉The carbon dioxide (CO_2) laser is the prevailing treatment method in the management of skin tumors. However, there is a painful sensation when it is applied, causing anxiety to the patient. Recently, a novel CO_2 laser device was developed to relieve or reduce the painful sensation due to longer off-time (0.2 sec) during all cases repeat irradiation. We retrospectively evaluated the efficacy of the management of the painful sensation in 30 patients with small skin tumors who were treated by novel CO_2 laser without local anesthesia. In this study of 30 patients, the VAS (visual analogue scale) values's means was 25.4, and excellent improvement in 22(73.3%) and moderate improvement in 8(26.7%). Our results showed that the majority of the patients felt tolerable pain with excellent or moderate improvement. It was suggested that the novel CO_2 laser was effective in reducing the painful sensation and raising the effectveness

[Abstract] This paper aims to examine why a certain decision-making framework is used consisting of decision-making techniques that employ legislative acts from courthouses over families in recent years. The study investigates the process of how family laws（laws governing the rights within families）and constitutional laws have been enacted as well as the attitudes of courts towards unconstitutional investigations. The background underlying the problem over what the family ought to be is "the semi-feudal institution of the family system"., which was instituted by civil law and the Family Registration Law during the Meiji era. The family system in itself was abolished with the enactment of the Constitution of Japan which stipulates individual dignity as well as equality between both sexes. Despite this, it still has various effects on laws and the minds of people In addition, it may control trials through the decision-making techniques of the court, which are called legislative facts. Diverse types of families make legal decisions difficult these days. However, this paper reasons that it is necessary to perform investigations based on approaches from a constitutional perspective, not on public opinion

〈Articles〉On Thornton Wilder's Short Story "The Marriage of Zabett": A Recurring Motif "Saint"

publisher[概要] ソーントン・ワイルダーが大学時代に書いた短編小説「ザベットの結婚」では, 「聖人」がモチーフとして使用されている. 大学時代に書かれたほかの短編小説や一幕劇でも用いられているこのモチーフは, 彼の代表的な多幕劇『わが町』において観客に衝撃的な演劇的経験を与えることに成功する場面でも効果的に用いられているだけでなく, 彼の後期の一幕劇においても使用されている. このように, 彼が自分の思想と主題を伝えるために使い続けたモチーフ「聖人」が用いられているこの「ザベットの結婚」は, のちのワイルダーの作品につながる重要な作品であるといえる. 　　　　　　　　　　[Abstract] In "The Marriage of Zabett," a short story Thornton Wilder wrote in his college days, the word "saint" is used as the motif of the story.　The motif "saint," which recurs in other short stories and another one-act play written in the same days, is used afterward not only in his most famous full-length play Our Town, but also in one of his one-act plays written in his late years.　Especially in Our Town, the motif plays an effective role in the scene where Wilder gave his audience a sensationally dramatic experience they had never been given before. "The Marriage of Zabett" is an important short story that is related to his later works because the motif "saint," which Wilder used over and over again in his writing in order to convey his thoughts and themes, is used in this work

〈Originals〉Food allergy treatment guidance based on oral food challenge tests

publisher〈Abstract〉Japanese Guideline for Food Allergy 2014 states that definitive diagnosis of food allergy should be based on the results of an oral food challenge test(OFC). At the Department of Pediatrics, Nara Hospital, Kinki University Faculty of Medicine, OFCs were not conducted in a uniform manner until a standardized protocol was implemented in 2013. We retrospectively examined protocol-based OFCs by reviewing medical records. The number of OFCs increased during 2013, so did the number of patients for whom an elimination diet was discontinued. On the other hand, the number of patients with symptoms induced during the test also increased; some of these children developed anaphylaxis. Overall, food allergy treatment guided by OFCs may improve nutrition, contributing positively to children's and their families' quality of life
