Pre-service teachers as the future educators must be thoroughly prepared to become professional teachers. Having assessment is one crucial skill to be professional teachers. This study aims to explore the perceptions of pre-service teachers towards assessment. Sixty pre-service teachers from UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung participated in this research. They completed a questionnaire designed to evaluate their knowledge and beliefs about assessment. The findings suggest that while the majority have a positive view of assessment, a small number hold negative perceptions indicating their lack understanding of assessment. Therefore, it is necessary to improve their understanding of assessment to ensure they are adequately prepared to become professional teachers
Women, Law, and Maqashid Syari’ah: An Analysis of Protection in Indonesia and Malaysia
This study aims to analyze the concept of women's protection as implemented in the legal systems of Indonesia and Malaysia through the perspective of maqashid syari’ah. This is because women are a vulnerable group, prone to discrimination, violence, and limited access to justice. In the context of positive law, for example, both countries have regulatory instruments to provide protection for women, such as the Law on the Elimination of Domestic Violence (PKDRT Law) in Indonesia and the Domestic Violence Act 1994 in Malaysia. However, in reality, there is still a gap between the idealism of the law and the practice of protection. Using a qualitative-comparative approach, this study compares the concepts and principles of women's protection in Indonesia and Malaysia with reference to the fundamental theory of Islamic law (maqashid syari’ah). As a result of the study, this study shows that Indonesia and Malaysia place the protection of women as part of the fulfillment of basic rights, despite differences in legal approaches, institutional structures, and policy implementation. This study also emphasizes that the integration of maqashid syari’ah values into the national legal system can be strengthened through the legitimization of women's protection to create a legal system that is fair, responsive, and inclusive of contemporary challenges. This study also opens up space for reflection on the development of contemporary Islamic law that is not only normative but also serves as a solution in facing the dynamics and challenges of the modern world
Examining The Indonesian Chinese Portrait: Ethnic Chinese Minority in a Muslim-majority Country
In 1998, Indonesian students demonstrated reforms that demanded every aspect of Indonesian life. By such moral strength, they succeeded in changing every basis of freedom for the people; Democracy. During the recovery of the Indonesian economic crisis and reforms, in May 1998, the most tragic riots occurred and the recovery that occurred against Indonesians was raised by Chinese. After the economic crisis in 1998, it couldn’t be denied that Indonesia's economic and political problems were in poor condition. This research uses qualitative research with a case study approach. The results of the study stated that since May 1998, the Indonesian Government has given Indonesians more freedom to speak openly, to gather in political parties. Most importantly, one of the laws states that no one is against Chinese descent. Those who value Indonesia automatically become Indonesian citizens without native (non-indigenous) recognition. The minority of citizens of Chinese descent after the 1998 riots slowly began to be recognized and became a force in the economic movement carried out by citizens of Chinese descent in Indonesia. The political relationship between Indonesia and China has become a force recognized by the world in a symbiotic relationship of mutualism in the economic and political fields

Abstract: Informal settlements that are slums are often faced with social, health and environmental problems. One of the solutions adopted is the reorganization of settlements through colorful painting. The case study of Kampung Warna-Warni Jodipan in Malang shows how transformation through colorful painting not only improves aesthetics but also enhances the local economy and quality of life through tourism development. This research was conducted qualitatively using the Multi-Level Perspective (MLP) approach to analyze the social learning process in tourism development in informal settlements. The findings show that the formation of Tourism Awareness Groups (Pokdarwis) by the Malang City Tourism Office plays an important role in managing and maintaining the sustainability of tourism villages. However, the COVID-19 pandemic put pressure on the tourism sector causing a decrease in the number of tourists and temporary closures. Power relations and open communication play a crucial role in this structuring process, where community and private sector initiatives require approval from relevant authorities. Discussion forums and interactive dialogues between residents and tourism managers help create a common understanding and collective action to maintain cleanliness and tourist satisfaction. Through participatory communication, the community can understand and contribute to the sustainability of tourism development.

BACK TO BASICS: Nurturing Religious Moderation through the Co-Parenting Models of Islamic Education in Multicultural Indonesia
This article seeks to discuss the role of co-parenting in shaping Islamic education within families and how this practice contributes to fostering social and religious harmony in a pluralistic society. This article employs a qualitative approach, collecting data through interviews with selected interlocutors to explore the parenting models used by each parent. This article argues that the co-parenting model emphasizes the cooperation of all family members, with effective communication serving as a crucial tool in building a holistic Islamic education that promotes harmony within the family. The article also highlights the importance of incorporating universal Islamic values into family education to shape children’s character and morals, aligning with sharia principles and promoting respect for diversity, thereby contributing to the harmonization of the religious and social spheres. Furthermore, the interviewees expressed a preference for both parents to be actively involved in the Islamic education process within the family environment. This desired involvement not only strengthens family ties but also creates a well-rounded learning experience for children. This study demonstrates that the stability of co-parenting provides a robust theoretical and empirical foundation to support the development of a model that can be applied in various Muslim family contexts, with the ultimate goal of fostering harmony within a broader religious dynamic
PRONUNCIATION CHALLENGES OF MANDARIN PHONEMES ZH, CH, SH, D, AND T AMONG SMPIT CHENG HOO MAKASSAR STUDENTS
The differences in the phonological systems between Indonesian and Mandarin often cause difficulties for learners, especially in the consonant sounds zh, ch, sh, d, and t which do not have direct equivalents in Indonesian. These pronunciation difficulties, especially in junior high school students, are not free from errors in pronouncing the consonants h, ch, sh, d, and t, so this study shows and describes the form of pronunciation difficulties of the consonants zh, ch, sh, d, and t directly in grade IX students of SMP IT Cheng Hoo Makassar, and identifies the factors causing these difficulties. The research method used in this study is descriptive qualitative with 15 students as subjects. Data were collected through pronunciation tests, syllable tests, observations, structured interviews, and audio recordings. The results showed that most students had difficulty pronouncing the retroflex consonants zh and ch, as well as the aspirated consonant t. Errors that emerged included difficulties in tongue articulation, failure to distinguish between aspirated and non-aspirated sounds, and interference from Indonesian, for example, zh is pronounced as j and t is pronounced as d. Physiological factors such as a stiff tongue position also affect pronunciation accuracy. In conclusion, ninth-grade students of SMP IT Cheng Hoo Makassar still face significant challenges in pronouncing certain consonants in Mandarin. These findings emphasize the need for more targeted phonetic teaching strategies, such as explicit articulation exercises and the use of audio-visual media, so that students can improve their accuracy and confidence in speaking Mandarin
