« Où sont vos jambes ? » : Attraction et répulsion du corps dans L’Hiver sous la table (1994) de Roland Topor
Roland Topor, as a “visceral” artist, makes an apology for the body throughout his work that we can describe as ambivalent, since he shows it in all its splendor as well as in all its miseries. Following “panic” strategies, he presents us a body that is both seductive and repulsive, relying on caustic and destabilizing humor. To illustrate this questioning about the body, we will rely on a brief analysis ofL’Hiver sous la table (1994), one of the last works published before his sudden death. Starting from an introduction about the “panic” body, we will present the chosen play as a love song, to then delve into the strategies of attraction and repulsion. This will lead us to conclude that the author, with his characteristic transgressive spirit, questions in a subversive way the limits of the body, both physical and social
Styl urzędowy
Three variants of the official style can be distinguished: the official-legal, the office-documentary, and the rhetorical style. Researchers have so far concentrated primarilyon legal texts, which aim to create model legal situations and regulate the behaviour of a given community’s members. Fewer studies have addressed the office-documentary variety, which includes numerousspeech genres, ranging from simple acts (such as summonses, invitations, and reminders) to more complex forms (such as business letters, minutes, and reports). In these cases, the primary focus has been on textual correctness. Genres within the rhetorical sub-variety, especially those involving negotiation and mediation, remain largely undescribed from a linguistic perspective. Another important issue requiring further study is how the model of institutional communication is changing with the rise of electronic documents (e-government). Researchers of official Polish agree that its basic features are directive, impersonal, precise, and standardized. These characteristics are closely interrelated, mutuallyconditioned, and interpenetrating, making it difficult to establish a clear hierarchy among them. Their intensity is gradable, being highest in official-legal genres and lower in clerical texts
Aspekt międzynarodowy kultu świętego Jozafata Kuncewicza w XIX w. na podstawie literatury polskiej
The year 2023 was an important jubilee related to the 400th anniversary of the martyrdom of St. Josaphat Kuncewicz. This martyr bishop, a monk belonging to the Basilian Order, died in Vitebsk on November 12, 1623. Books and brochures created after the canonization (after 1867) mostly show the historically accurate face of Josaphat Kuncewicz. The main source of information for the Polish reader about St. Josaphat was a book by Father Alfons Guépin from 1885, translated by Father Kalinka. Thanks to it, many other authors, including Father Jan Urban and Tadeusz Żychiewicz (Jozafat Kuncewicz, Kalwaria Zebrzydowska 1986), perpetuated the image of Josaphat Kuncewicz based on historical facts.W 2023 r. przypadał ważny jubileusz związany z 400. rocznicą męczeństwa św. Jozafata Kuncewicza. Ten biskup-męczennik i zakonnik należący do zakonu bazylianów poniósł śmierć w Witebsku 12 listopada 1623 r. Książki i broszury powstałe po kanonizacji (po 1867 r.) w większości ukazują – zgodne z prawdą historyczną – oblicze męczennika. Głównym źródłem informacji dla polskiego odbiorcy o św. Jozafacie, była książka o. Alfonsa Guépina z 1885 r. w przekładzie i redakcji ks. Kalinki. Dzięki niej wieluinnych autorów, m.in. ks. Jan Urban czy też Tadeusz Żychiewicz, utrwalali w późniejszych latach oparty na faktach historycznych wizerunek patrona unii
„Myśmy byli przesyceni tą historią, którą nam przekazywano…”1 Między językiem perswazji wojennej a językiem narracji wspomnieniowej – miejsca wspólne
This article presents the results of comparative analyses of temporally, genologically and discursively diverse texts, i.e. excerpts from underground press published during World War II and 3,400 recollections of participants in the 1944 Warsaw Uprising (collected between 2003 and 2018). The authors draw on memory studies pertaining to the reminiscence effect and apply comparative stylistic analysis alongside corpusbased tools to examine the characteristics of reminiscence discourse. The article aims to highlight the stylistic and lexical convergences between the persuasive language of World War II and the recollections of those who witnessed the events of 1944. It explains the reasons behind these convergences and explores how veterans reflect on shaping their attitudes and beliefs within the context of a shared generational experience. The results suggest that this type of analysis could be valuable for further linguistic inquiry into text and memory, particularly with regard to the memory of history and style, in both diachronic linguistics and memory studies
Paulo Freire’s legacy and critical pedagogy in dark times
This article explores the enduring relevance of Paulo Freire’s critical pedagogy at a historical moment marked by rising authoritarianism and attacks on education as a critical and democratizing project. Freire’s philosophy, grounded in the belief that education is inherently political, emphasizes the role of theory, critical consciousness, and pedagogy as the practice of freedom in fostering a just and democratic society. Central to his vision is the understanding that power operates through cultural narratives, making it crucial to reclaim education as a space for shaping public consciousness. In an era where thinking is increasingly viewed as subversive, if not dangerous. Freire’s work serves as a call to resist the educational, cultural, and economic forces that perpetuate oppression and ignorance. The article highlights the need for educators to engage in dialogue, challenge oppressive power structures, take on the role of public intellectuals, build mass movements, and inspire students to become active agents of change. It underscores the importance of reclaiming education from neoliberal and fascist forces, advocating for a pedagogy that promotes democratic engagement, social justice, and the promise of a socialist democracy. This article explores the enduring relevance of Paulo Freire’s critical pedagogy at a historical moment marked by rising authoritarianism and attacks on education as a critical and democratizing project. O wpływie literatury i sztuki na język recenzji filmowych Stefanii Zahorskiej (próba wstępnej charakterystyki)
This study focuses on the language of film reviews written by Stefania Zahorska, one of Poland’s most eminent critics in the interwar period. The texts were published between 1927 and 1939, when the scientific foundations of film studies were emergingand a new model of theoretical reflection was taking shape. The research aims to examine the development of language and style in film criticism. The analytical part consists of two subchapters. The first presents the notions and terms found in the critic’s reviews, directly related to film and its production practice, which appeared with the advent of film art and gradually became part of the specialized language of the cinema among film experts and practitioners. The second subchapter highlights linguistic and stylistic elements showing that, in her search for a new critical language, Zahorska drew on the resources of literary criticism, painting, theatre and music. Through this approach, she introduced novel terms, idioms and innovative metaphors from traditional art forms into the film discourse. The analysis reveals that she created not only a new model of art criticism, but also a modern critical language. The collected material demonstrates that many of the concepts, still on the threshold of specialised terminology, along with metaphorical expressions and phrases, serve not only aesthetic and polemical purposes, but also exhibit the cognitive function. The study concludes by identifying areas and research gaps that warrant further investigation
Corona-Life-Ticker als ein kommunikatives Phänomen auf deutschen Nachrichtenportalen
After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, many German news portals began to use ‘live’ tickers to report on the topic. Such tickers are not a new phenomenon, but the duration of their display (almost a year at the time of this research) should beconsidered truly unprecedented. Previously, the events covered by ‘live’ tickers were not only shorter, but provided much more dynamic updates than during the pandemic. A classic example is a ticker for a sporting event, such as a football match, which lasts a little more than 90 minutes and describes the events on the pitch in real time. Even in the case of tickers relating to longer events, their duration typically does not exceed a few days. The use of a ‘live’ ticker with reference to the pandemic, however, creates a sharp dissonance between the convention and the reality. On the one hand, the convention of ‘live’ tickers demands relatively frequent updates to give the users the impression of staying informed. On the other hand, the months-long pandemic situation was insufficiently dynamic to sustain such frequent updates. For this reason alone, the ‘live’ pandemic tickers seem to be a perfect example of what Jean Baudrillard refers to as simulation. With a lack of new events to report, the tickers simulate activity by providing information on more general and less timesensitive aspects of the pandemic. While their publication may seem to violate the basic requirements of the text genre, they are necessary to maintain the publication frequency typical of ‘live’ tickers. Selected examples of such manipulation strategies are discussed in detail.
De l’imaginaire de la réalité au réel de la fiction : subjectivation néolibérale et corporalités liminales dans Apocalypse bébé de Virginie Despentes
The concept of corporality encompasses the entirety of the human being, emphasising the interconnection between the psychophysical aspects of existence. This study is intended to reveal the structures of subjectivation and modes of behaviour that shape the human experience in the neoliberal era. We aim to demonstrate that the transition from the imaginary realm of functionalised reality to the tangible reality of fiction is a fundamental aspect of the narrative structure of Apocalypse Bébé by Virginie Despentes. In her polyphonic anatomy of contemporary societies, Despentes provides the reader with a critical, lucid and evocative deconstruction of our times, elucidating the psychological, symbolic, physical and verbal violence inherent in the social body, while simultaneously highlighting and exalting human alterity
L’inscription du corps féminin dans l’institution polygamique chez Djaïli Amadou Amal
The female subjects described in Les Impatientes and Coeur du Sahel, struggle daily through their bodies, in order to reconstruct their identity. In their social, traditional and religious world, these women question the practice of polygamy considered to be a major handicap to their development. This article thus aims to question the uses of the female body in a phallocratic society. This allows us to examine the practices of the body, the excesses as well as the affects of the female beings who evolve in this space. Very often, when faced with difficulties, these characters use strategies that are sometimes subversive with regard to the practices linked to their world. The author therefore depicts and satirizes a phallocratic society, faced with a profound value change
Nazwy własne związane z deskrypcją przestrzeni w „przewodniku dla turystów mentalnych” Pawła Dunin-Wąsowicza i Andrzeja St. Rodysa. Z zagadnień onomapoetyki utworu
The article discusses names related to descriptions of space in the book Odczapów. Przewodnik dla turystów mentalnych („Randomville: A Guide for Mental Tourists”). Its main aim is to show how these names function within the conventions of a tourist guide, against the backdrop of stylistic devices associated with its ludic transformation – that is, the parodic modification of the guidebook form. Spatially marked expressions are various toponyms that name objects and, being components of descriptive sentences, define their location. First of all, this role isplayed by those names that identify and distinguish different places of the fictionalerritory described in the guide, while at the same time serving the linguistic and graphic representation of space (in the prose and on maps). Secondly, there are also toponyms that connect the text with the reality they imitate (toponomastic tropes). Those names that determine topofication occupy a prominent position in the literarymessage and constitute an inalienable part of world-centred narration. That is, they contribute to the spatial creation of the world intended in this specific work, naming and distinguishing its various components
