Empowering Listening Comprehension through Pre-Listening Strategies: An Action Research Study on EFL Learners
Listening comprehension remains one of the most challenging language skills for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. This action research study explores the impact of pre-listening language learning strategies on the listening comprehension skills of first-semester students at Universitas Pamulang. A total of 35 students participated in a structured intervention comprising three cycles of strategy-based listening instruction. Data were collected through observation forms, researcher-practitioner journals, and semi-structured interviews. Descriptive and content analyses were employed to interpret the data. The findings reveal that the explicit teaching of pre-listening strategies significantly improved learners’ motivation, comprehension, and engagement with listening tasks. Students reported increased confidence, enhanced understanding of listening texts, and reduced anxiety. Although a few learners faced challenges in recalling prior knowledge or vocabulary, the majority expressed positive attitudes toward the approach. The study highlights the value of incorporating pre-listening strategies as an integral component of EFL instruction to support listening development and learner autonomy
The Correlation Between Students' Learning Technique and Students' Mathematics Achievement
This study addresses a critical gap in STEM education literature by empirically investigating the underexplored relationship between structured learning techniques and mathematics achievement in Indonesian engineering education—a context with limited prior research despite documented pedagogical challenges. Using a quantitative correlational design, we examined 100 engineering students at Musi Rawas University through triangulated data collection: structured interviews (14-item protocol), observational checklists (10-point behavioral scale), and institutional academic records. Participants were purposively sampled and categorized into structured (n=68) and unstructured (n=32) learners based on a validated 10-point analytical rubric (inter-rater reliability κ=0.87). Data analysis employed Pearson correlation, t-tests, and regression modeling. Findings revealed a robust positive correlation between structured techniques (concept mapping, scheduled reviews) and mathematics achievement (r = .79, p < .001), accounting for 62.4% of variance (R² = .624). Structured learners significantly outperformed peers (84.1 vs. 61.5; t(98) = 12.6, p < .001), with concept mapping identified as the highest-impact strategy (β = .42). Notably, cramming demonstrated significant negative correlations (r = −.67, p < .01). These results substantiate cognitive load theory while highlighting the 32% prevalence of ineffective techniques—a key pedagogical concern. The study implies that embedding structured strategy training (e.g., concept mapping scaffolding) into engineering curricula could elevate mathematics performance by 20–30%. Limitations include single-institution sampling and self-reporting biases, warranting future multi-institutional validation. This research provides actionable evidence for optimizing STEM learning processes in Indonesian context
Social Media’s Impact on Indonesian Language Literacy Among SDN 1 Purbalingga Lor Students
Literacy skills in the Indonesian language are defined as an individual's ability to understand, use, and analyse Indonesian in various contexts. With diverse features such as text, images, and videos, social media is considered capable of providing an interactive space for reading, writing, discussing, and enriching vocabulary and language comprehension. However, the use of social media by students is predominantly dominated by entertainment activities that offer minimal educational value. The content consumed often employs non-standard language, excessive abbreviations, or even disregards grammatical rules. This study employs descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this research are 34 fifth-grade students from SDN 1 Purbalingga Lor, comprising 22 female and 12 male students. Data will be collected through three methods: observation, interviews, and literature review. The findings of this research indicate that social media has a complex influence on the Indonesian language literacy skills of students at SDN 1 Purbalingga Lor. The positive impacts of social media include the enhancement of language skills such as increased accessibility, language opportunities, and content creation. However, the challenges faced include the use of non-standard language, a decline in language skills, and difficulties in processing information, which can hinder formal learning

The Effect of Mindfulness-Based Counseling on Anxiety Management in Lecturers
Lecturers often face significant mental health challenges, with anxiety emerging as one of the most prevalent issues within academic settings. Factors such as excessive workloads, research obligations, and administrative responsibilities frequently contribute to elevated anxiety levels. Among various therapeutic interventions, mindfulness-based counseling has demonstrated efficacy in alleviating anxiety symptoms. This study investigates the impact of mindfulness-based counseling on anxiety management among university lecturers. Adopting a quantitative experimental design, the research involved 50 lecturers from multiple universities in West Sumatra. The findings reveal that mindfulness-based counseling leads to a statistically significant reduction in anxiety levels. These results underscore the potential of mindfulness-based interventions as an effective method for enhancing the psychological well-being of lecturers. The intervention yielded an average reduction of approximately 12 points in HAM-A scores, affirming its therapeutic value. The integration of mindfulness-based counseling in academic institutions may not only improve lecturers’ mental health but also enhance the overall quality of teaching they deliver
