The Eurasian Dry Grassland Group (EDGG) in 2018–2019
This report summarises the activities and achievements of the Eurasian Dry Grassland Group (EDGG) from January 2018 through July 2019. During the reported period, two Eurasian Grassland Conference (EGCs) took place: the 15th EGC in Sulmona, Italy, and the 16th EGC in Graz, Austria. The 11th and 12th EDGG Field Workshops studied vegetation diversity patterns in the inner alpine valleys of Austria and Switzerland, while the 13th Field Workshop was organised in Armenia. The formerly electronic newsletter of EDGG (Bulletin of the Eurasian Dry Grassland) was transformed into a peer-reviewed international journal, called Palaearctic Grasslands, which now is attracting both scientific and photographic contributions. Furthermore, the EDGG homepage was re-constructed with a new design and content management system. The EDGG has also finalised two grassland-related Special Features during the past 1.5 years in the international journals Tuexenia and Hacquetia, and contributed with eight chapters to the book Grasslands of the World: Diversity, Management and Conservation. The vegetation plot database GrassPlot, containing standardised multi-scale data from Palaearctic grasslands and closely connected with EDGG, has developed well, as did some other regional and national grassland-focused databases
Latobici publice patrono… Počastitveni napis zaščitniku Nevioduna (ILSl 1, 25 = CIL III, 10804)
The article discusses a partially preserved honourific inscription to the patron of Neviodunum (municipium Flavium Latobicorum Neviodunum), which was discovered in the 19th century at the Mokrice castle (Slovenia). Neviodunum received the rights of an autonomous town during the period of the Flavian emperors, so Vespasian’s appearance is considered the terminus post quem for the selection and honouring of a senator. His name is not preserved in the fragment, but only three stages of his career. Based on these, the honouree cannot be reliably linked to any known person. According to one interpretation, the inscription could refer to the course of the early career of the Roman senator and historian Cornelius Tacitus before he assumed the function of suffect consul in 97.V članku je obravnavan deloma ohranjen počastitveni napis zaščitniku Nevioduna (municipium Flavium Latobicorum Neviodunum), ki je bil odkrit v 19. stoletju na gradu Mokrice.
The paper investigates the societal and critical potential of bio(medical) artistic practices by focusing on the ways in which female artists use bodies and living cells as means of biopolitical critique. Using an ecofeminist and posthuman feminist theoretical framework, the author discusses selected bio(medical) works by female contemporary artists that contain living human cells or in which they connect with other species. The paper shows how these works are critical towards many socio-historical and biopolitical issues, such as discrimination associated with blood and blood lineages, the killing of indigenous communities, ecocide, biobanks, racial and gender-based superiority and dominance, human authority over other-than human and more-than-human beings. Such artistic practices are of great relevance for gender studies and studies of artistic research in bioculture and technoscience, where their interdisciplinary nature changes the representation and understanding of bodies in the arts and everyday culture.V članku je predstavljen družbeni in kritični potencial bio(medicinskih) umetniških praks s poudarkom na načinih, kako umetnice uporabljajo telesa in žive celice kot sredstvo biopolitične kritike.
Checklist of the Bryophytes of Bogotá, D. C., Colombia
In Colombia, ecosystems such as the páramos and high Andean forests are characterized by their high diversity of bryophytes. These include mosses, liverworts and hornworts. They lack complex tissues, which contribute to their relatively small size and their ability to grow on various substrates, even in nutrient-poor or polluted environments such as cities. Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, is known for its plentiful water resources and cold climate. It also encompasses one of the world's largest paramo ecosystems. This study compiles specimen distribution data from databases and herbaria, refining the nomenclature to produce a list of 450 bryophyte taxa reported within Bogotá. Of these, 279 are mosses, 167 are liverworts and, for the first time, four species of hornwort have been reported. This study highlights Bogotá’s significance as a refuge for important Neotropical bryophyte diversity
Raziskovalno, umetniško in pedagoško delo Franceta Marolta v odsevu zvočnih posnetkov
The article examines a less researched aspect of France Marolt’s work: his sound recordings on direct cut 78 rpm gramophone discs. Using the Gailtal Wedding (ziljska ohcet) recordings as a case study, it analyses the context of the recordings, presents the metadata collected and discusses the recording technique used. It places the recordings in the history of Slovenian folk music research and in Marolt’s broader work and shows the interweaving of his artistic, research and pedagogical activities.Članek obravnava manj raziskani vidik dela Franceta Marolta – njegove zvočne posnetke na direktno rezanih gramofonskih ploščah z 78 vrtljaji na minuto. Avtor v članku analizira kontekst Maroltovih posnetkov ziljske ohceti, predstavlja zbrane metapodatke in obravnava uporabljeno tehniko snemanja.
Balkan Wolf/Dog in Folklore Interpretations in the Mythology of Nature by N. Nodilo through T. R. Đorđević to Lj. Radenković and P. Plas
This interpretive timeline presents (not necessarily in chronological order) the imaginary of the “Balkan” wolf/dog in South Slavic customs and beliefs from Natko Nodilo, through T. R. Đorđević and Lj. Radenković, all the way to contemporary cultural animal studies research by P. Plas (the author employs a methodology that integrates ethnolinguistic/semiotic and linguistic-anthropological and ethnopoetic approaches), contextually related to other Slavs and Indo-European comparative mythology in the framework of archetypal wolf/dog phobias (lupophobia, kinophobia). While Nodilo relies on A. de Gubernatis’ interpretation of nature mythology, T. R. Đorđević follows the ethnographic material of the South Slavs (as for Croatia, he carefully researched, among other things, the wolf/dog entries in the Collection of Folk Life and Customs of the South Slavs), and Lj. Radenković semiotically observes the wolf/dog in the symbolism of the world of the South Slavs, where he notes that the closest domestic animals to man are the horse, sheep, cow and ox, followed by the bull, goat, donkey, hen, pig, dog and cat. So-called wild animals are arranged in relation to the god-shepherd (God’s shepherd) – the bear is closest to him, and the wolf is the farthest.
The article presents dialect texts and vocabulary pertaining to the interesting custom of capturing songbirds in Kropa in Upper Carniola. The material was collected in the course of fieldwork among the male inhabitants of Kropa. In the lexical part of the article the names of types of birds, names of tools, methods for capturing the birds, and vocabulary characteristic of songbird hobbyists, etc., are covered. As the custom is dying out because of changing lifestyles and use of leisure time, the active vocabulary of Kropa dialect speakers is losing this semantic field. The present article presents not only the specialized vocabulary of songbird hobbyists, but also some (erstwhile) vocabulary of everyday communication in the dialect.Članek prinaša besedila in besedje, zbrano ob raziskovanju zanimivega običaja moških prebivalcev Krope na Gorenjskem — ptičjega lova.
Tipologija izgube v tonemskosti v Halozah: akustična in avtosegmentna razčlemga
The paper presents and acoustical analysis of pitch contour on accented syllables in Haloze microsialects and a comparative examination of other instrumental sutdis of pitch in selected South Slavic dialects. Based on these analyses, an atttempt is made to place Haloze within a typology of tone loss which functions on autosebmental principles and is morivated by language contact.
