Pastoral Reflections on Martin Buber’s “I and Thou”(1923): From the Point of View of the Supervisory Perspective Within Clinical Pastoral Education.

I have learned a lot of important ideas from Buber’s “I and Thou,” especially as a supervisor in Clinical Pastoral Education. Buber sees Love, Word, Spirit as concepts between I and Thou, but human emotions as just dwelling inside of the person. Is it so? I can also see the emotions not only inside of the person, but also between I and Thou, consecrated by God’s Grace.departmental bulletin pape

This study examined the effectiveness and challenges of case conferences using Solution Focused Reflecting Teams (SFRT). Semi-structured interviews were conducted with four participants who had attended SFR T case conferences provided by our team at least twice, and the commonalities and idiosyncrasies of their narratives were analyzed. The results showed that participants felt "safe" and "secure," that they were "affirmed" and "supported" as case study presenters, that they had an "interesting" and "inspiring" time as supporters, while some participants felt "confused" and "inadequate.” These results suggest that SFRT case conferences are effective in: (1) increasing participants' feelings of safety and security, (2) empowering participants, and (3) providing new learning opportunities for participants. Factors contributing to these results included the SFRT’s structured way of conducting case conferences, especially the affirmation and suggestions phases. The significance and challenges of this study were also discussed for future research.departmental bulletin pape

Exploring Social Factors Driving Help-Seeking Behavior in College Students; An Examination of “Loose Social Bonds”

The primary objective of this study was to focus on “loose social bonds” (Oka and Yamauchi, 2012),which is one of the suicide prevention factors found in studies of geographical areas with low rates of suicide, as a social factor that promotes help-seeking behavior among university students, and to conduct an exploratory analysis of its nature. The second objective was to clarify the characteristics of help-seeking from current college students who have experienced social isolation to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The suicide prevention factor, “loose social bonds,” has been examined using style of relations between neighbors as an indicator. Making use of a similar index, results showed that the most common style of the relations among university students was “a relationship of casual acquaintance.” The difference in scores for (1) “the realizing of a place in one’s community,” and (2) “the realizing of having someone when needed,” were examined for each style. The results showed that the style of a relationship of casual acquaintance had higher scores than other styles. Finally, the significance of examining this community characteristic as a social factor that promotes help-seeking behavior was discussed.departmental bulletin pape

The purpose of this study is to clarify the effective practice of technical support provided by public health centers to municipalities and to propose an ideal system of provision. To this end, the research questions were set at three levels based on previous studies on technical support. The operational definitions and analysis framework necessary for the investigation to clarify each research question was defined based on the conceptual arrangement of related support methods. In this study, three types of surveys were conducted to clarify the following: “Changes in the roles and tasks of prefectural public health centers due to the impact of mental health welfare policies”, “Differences in Staffing and Work Implementation in public health centers by prefecture,” and “Systematize the structure of attitudes toward technical support and analyze the factors that influence them.” Based on a comprehensive discussion of the results of each study, suggestions for social work practice related to prefectural public health centers are presented for each level.departmental bulletin pape
