    EVOLUTION OF ANTHROPONYMS: TRANSFORMATION IN THE NAMING OF NEWBORN BABIES AND ITS ROLE FOR SOCIETY IN THE PERIOD OF LINGUISTIC TRANSITION

    Purpose of the study: The study is aiming to show that name is a kind of social identification code, i.e., the names serve important social and legal functions that contribute to the identification of the person in society, allowing joining various social institutions. The functioning of personal names plays a significant role in the lives of every member of society. Methodology: The authors of the research article offer an empirical exploration of the transformation of naming newborns in the Republic of Kazakhstan. More specifically, the paper utilizes a grounded theory research procedure to investigate the transformations in the naming of newborn babies in Kazakhstan from the pre-Soviet times to the present. Main Findings: The authors indicated that from the pre-Soviet times, the changes in naming systems in Kazakhstan have been consistent with the socio-cultural and political events of each era recognizing, appreciating, and accommodating Kazakh identities, histories, languages, and cultures. The names should serve as beacon lights that imbue in them self-esteem, health, and wellbeing on the path of their adulthood. Applications of this study: The factual material, scientific results, and conclusions can be widely used in onomastic research, special courses on the theory of onomastics, on Kazakh anthroponymy, comparative onomastics, in lectures on semantics, word formation, lexicography. The results of the research can provide an opportunity for linguists, sociologists, psychologists, cultural scientists, etc. to draw appropriate conclusions on the formation of the national language and national consciousness. Novelty/Originality of this study: The paper carries implications for contemporary anthroponyms. It is important to consider traditional thought as a viable knowledge source for naming newborns and conceptualizing research in anthroponyms, this does not mean the denunciation of newborn naming practices borrowed from other cultures in favor of traditional naming practices.     THE ROLE OF MANAGERIAL ABILITY IN INDONESIA: INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY SETS, ENVIRONMENTAL UNCERTAINTY, TAX AVOIDANCE

    Purpose of the study: This study aims to obtain empirical evidence of the effect of investment factors that consist of investment opportunity sets and environmental uncertainty on tax avoidance and the role of managerial ability in moderating these effects. Methodology: The analysis was conducted on 49 manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2012 to 2018. It was chosen through a purposive sampling method, so 343 observations were obtained. This study engages two-panel data regression models, a model with and without moderation managerial ability. Also, this study employs factor analysis to produce investment opportunity sets that can represent this variable. Main Findings: This study reveals that investment opportunity sets and environmental uncertainty positively affect tax avoidance. Meanwhile, managerial ability failed to moderate the effect of investment opportunity sets and environmental uncertainty on tax avoidance. Implications: The results of the profiling can be used as an early warning, especially for account representatives and tax auditors at the Indonesia Tax Authority, so that potential tax exploration and examination can be more in-depth for firms that fulfill these characteristics. Also, this study provides advice to the Government of Indonesia to provide tax holidays for firms with high IOS who invest in the real sector and tax incentives for firms that are facing an environment with high uncertainty. Novelty: This study deploys managerial ability as a moderating variable between the relationship of investment opportunity sets and environmental uncertainty to tax avoidance. The managerial ability has an important role in firms' IOS and environmental uncertainty faced by the firms because the level of managers will produce differences in the economic outcomes and the effectiveness of the discretion

    Purpose of the study: The study aims to show that name is a kind of social identification code, i.e., the names serve essential social and legal functions that contribute to identifying the person in society, allowing joining various social institutions. The functioning of personal names plays a significant role in the lives of every member of the community. Methodology: The main methodological approaches are determined using domestic and foreign researchers' fundamental works in political, historical, and economic science. A comparative historical analysis was used to determine the main stages and trends in the development of relations between the main actors in the framework of the Karabakh crisis. Main Findings: Kazakhstan’s diplomacy is able to solve the problem of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, thereby ensuring security in the region for further implementation of the policy of diversification of energy supplies to the European market. The difficulty lies in the fact that both Armenia and Azerbaijan are strategic partners of Kazakhstan. Applications of this study: This research is scientifically and practically important. It contributes to developing the theoretical aspect of scientific research on the model of mediation policy of Kazakhstan and its application in achieving international stability in the South Caucasus region. The authors showed the consideration of the problems of the global efforts of Kazakhstan in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study fully reveals the understanding of Kazakhstan's activities and the extent to which the official Nur-Sultan uses diplomatic efforts to resolve the international conflict in the Caucasus.     TYPOLOGICAL SIMILARITIES OF PAREMIOLOGICAL UNITS ABOUT "LABOUR" (ON THE BASIS OF ENGLISH, RUSSIAN AND KAZAKH LANGUAGES)

    Purpose of the study: The main task of the article is to represent the English, Russian and Kazakh proverbs and sayings’ equivalents about the labour. The semantic characteristics of the paremiological units’ on the thematic group "labour" in English, Russian and Kazakh languages are examined comparatively for the first time. Methodology: The semantic components of paremiological units about labour were analyzed, considering their general and specific characteristics by using the qualitative method. Until now three genetically not related paremiological units in English, Russian and Kazakh languages were not fully investigated in linguistics contrastively and comparatively. Component analysis, descriptive analysis, contextual and comparative analysis were used as a tool for investigation of the following work. Main findings: Paremiological units of three different people and from various group languages can have universal lexemes in their components. The similar paremiological units of several languages are considered as a typological phenomenon, because of having similar life stages and historical correlation. Studying the paremiological units, we have the opportunity to get acquainted with the peoples’ culture, the range of interests, worldview, and psychology of the people. Applications of this study: The results and conclusions of the work can be used in the preparation of language textbooks and seminars, teaching textbooks, and special courses in comparative typology and general linguistics in the future.As well as, the following work can be the beginning of the composing the trilingual dictionary in English, Russian and Kazakh languages. The novelty of the study: The proverbs and sayings about "labour" of unrelated languages in terms of comparative and contrastive study have so far been little studied, especially in linguistics, and such study of this field will reveal universal and nationally specific features between English, Russian and Kazakh proverbs, which will have practical and theoretical significance

    EXPLORING YOUTHS’ PERCEPTIONS OF (IN)TOLERANCE IN THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

    Purpose of the study: This paper aims to explore how youth perceive the meaning of social, cultural, and religious tolerance in the United Arab Emirates as a multicultural, multi-ethnic society. Methodology: Data were collected using a survey conducted with 400 participants from different nationalities living and studying in UAE universities representing over 40 different nationalities. Main Findings: The study reveals that the roots of tolerance have historically been embedded in the UAE through various societal, geographic, religious, and economic factors. Findings revealed that 70.5 % of the sample expressed the belief that the UAE is a relatively tolerant society, whereas 29.5% believe that more efforts need to be made to instill values of tolerance, inclusion and acceptance. Surprisingly, more than half the respondents (53.5%) stated that they were unaware of the existence of a Ministry of Tolerance in the UAE. Implications: The topic of tolerance and intolerance has been a research area of interest in several countries but rarely raised in the Arab region. Many misconceptions have surrounded the meaning of tolerance especially in a region that has witnessed several social and political turbulences. Originality/Novelty of the study: Limited or no studies have been conducted towards understanding and conceptualizing tolerance in the Middle East and Gulf Cooperation Council societies. Since 2019 was announced as the Year of Tolerance, it was significant to investigate this nationwide initiative and its impact on the 200 different nationalities living in the UAE

    THE RANGE OF COMMUNICATION TOPICS OF THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED IN THE INTERNET COMMUNITIES

    Purpose of the study: This study discusses questions associated with the analysis of the most relevant communication topics of sight-disabled people in the Internet communities. According to the World Health Organization, there are about 1.3 billion people worldwide who live with a form of vision disorder. For solving a broad range of social problems of the sight-disabled, interest-based virtual social communities are created in the global internet network. By analyzing the content of these communities, one can judge about the most relevant topics of interest for sight-disabled people. Methodology: In this work, search and study of the Internet communities of sight-disabled people have been conducted in the VK (Russia)] social network. Using the Popsters service of analytics of social network posts and pages, the authors have analyzed the content of the said communities and identified the most relevant topics for this category of citizens. In the research, the hypothesis was used about a stable and significant statistical relation existing between the activity of users in the Internet communities associated with a particular topic and the level of significance of the selected topic for them. Main Findings: The development of information and communication technologies promotes socialization and integration of sight-disabled people into the civic society. The Internet communities of sight-disabled people focused on various topics are registered in the VK social network. The state has to more extensively support and develop technologies contributing to socialization and integration of sight-disabled people into the civic society. Applications of this study: The research findings can be of interest for specialists dealing with problems of socialization and social adaptation of people having vision limitations. Novelty/Originality of this study: It has been found that the Internet communities with the user-supplemented content have the highest quantity of users registered. The topics range of posts in these Internet communities is quite diverse.     ADDRESSING GENDER BIAS ISSUES IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL EFL TEXTBOOKS: AN ANALYSIS OF GROW WITH ENGLISH

    Purpose of the study: A textbook is a book containing comprehensive teaching-learning materials for a certain subject which is regularly used by both teachers and students at school. Textbooks should not contain unfair content or matters, such as gender bias. This study was conducted to examine the extent to which gender bias appears in the EFL textbook mostly employed in Aceh, Indonesia. Methodology: This research was aimed at investigating the representation levels of gender in English elementary textbooks of Grow with English book 4, book 5, and book 6. A content analysis method was used, for which every page of the textbooks was investigated to explore the five aspects of visibility, priority, feminine/masculine generic construction, activity, and occupation. Main Findings: The result of the investigation shows that every textbook contains gender bias of various representation levels. Males dominated three categories, namely priority, activity, and occupation. Meanwhile, females are only dominant in the visibility category. The results suggest that the EFL textbooks mostly used in Aceh are still not free from gender bias issues. Applications of this study: Indonesia is a country where English is used as a Foreign Language (EFL). Indonesian schools are apt to use textbooks written by Indonesian authors as the major source for English instruction in schools. Therefore, researchers should focus their attention on the content of English textbooks used in schools because they become the guidance for these students in learning. Novelty/Originality of this study: The results of the study suggest that the EFL textbook should be considered for revision to ensure that it is free from unfair content. This is aimed at national textbook designers when they have to produce a textbook for Indonesian learners so that the books they make available to schools are free from gender bias issues in the textbooks

    THE IMPACT OF EMPLOYEE SAFETY CLIMATE ON SAFETY BEHAVIOR IN SMALL & MEDIUM ENTERPRISES: AN EMPIRICAL STUDY

    Purpose of the study: The objective of this study is to examine the mediation effect of ESC on the relationship between climate constructs and intention to Safety in small and medium enterprises. Methodology: A structured self-administrative questionnaire was distributed to the employee of the small-medium enterprise in Peninsular Malaysia using simple random sampling. The Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) procedure were carried out to filter the items and validate the constructs in the study. The study tested the proposed hypotheses using the second-generation method of multivariate analysis Structural Equation Modelling (SEM. Furthermore, the results were confirmed through the bootstrapping procedure. All analysis of this study was conducted using IBM-SPSS-AMOS version 24.0. Main Findings: All items retained from EFA results were rearranged for the field study questionnaire. The CFA results indicated that the absolute fit index (RMSEA= 0.071) CFI = 0.975, TLC = 0.964, chisq/df = 2.431 achieved the requirement level. The results of this present study revealed that employee safety climate mediated the relationship between WO, IWE, and intention to safety behavior. Additionally, results indicated that ESC is the most prominent factor of intention to safety behavior. Applications of this study: The results from this study contribute to the improvement of proactive safety performance measures in small-medium enterprises, but further efforts are required for achieving an excellent safety performance level. Novelty/Originality of this study: The present study adds to the literature of safety performance and provides direction for future research work in this area. Additionally, the results of this present study mark an important step towards standardizing the measurement of safety climate in small and medium industries

    IMPACT OF FINANCIAL GROWTH ON THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF OMAN

    Purpose of the study: This paper aims to empirically test the long and short-run effects of financial development on the economic growth of Oman. Methodology: This paper has applied the Unit root test, ARDL Bound Test for Cointegration, CUSUM, and CUSUMSQ Test for testing of hypotheses. The data used to test the relationship between financial development and economic growth covers the period from 1980 to 2017. Main Findings: The major finding of the study suggested that the financial development variables measured in the research influence the economic growth in Oman.  Applications of the Study: This study can be useful to assess the strength of the empirical link between the financial sector and economic growth in Oman as one of the oil-exporting states of the Middle East Region, where such studies are inadequate. The novelty of the Study: The finding of the study with an addition to the existing literature by incorporating the new variables like employment or poverty in the existing model provides new insight on the financial development of Oman. Limitations and forward of the Study: The study has considered a set of data which in general acts as a catalyst for economic development in a particular country.  Implications of the Study: The outcome of the study suits the nature of the country and its socio-economic conditions. The outcomes of the study will not be suitable for every country and may result in spurious outcomes

    SOCIAL CONFLICT BETWEEN THE DRIVERS OF CONVENTIONAL WITH ONLINE TRANSPORTATION IN BANDUNG

    Purpose: Conflicts between conventional and online transport drivers have been disturbing and cause both physical and psychological casualties. The purpose of this research is to know the processes and factors that cause conflict. Methodology: The research method is qualitative and descriptive. Transporters from Bandung city were accessed and interviewed. They were inquired about their views on the shift of conventional transportation to the online transportation system; later, these interview responses were analyzed to draw inferences. Main Findings: The results of the research show that the process of conflict occurred from the transition of the use of conventional transportation services into online transportation in the city of Bandung. Furthermore, two forms of conflict occurred among transport drivers that are realistic and non-realistic conflicts. The causes of conflict are the seizure of economic resources (passengers), and the trigger factors are lack of communication and coordination among drivers, government delays in making regulations, and no solution to the problems that occur from the management of online transportation. Implications/Applications: These results will be applicable for policy formation as well as removing conflicts between conventional transportation drivers and online transportation actors. Originality/Value: Since: In Indonesia, online transportation has grown since 2015. However, some parties reject the presence of this online transportation, which causes a conflict. This study has thoroughly investigated the conflict between conventional transportation drivers and online transportation and highlighted the factors that cause these conflicts
