    DWT and QR code based watermarking for document DRM

    Questo articolo presenta uno schema per la protezione dei diritti digitali per ogni tipo di documento presentato come immagine, usando passi che usano la crittografia e il watermarking. Le entità coinvolte in questo processo sono due: il proprietario del documento che ne possiede i diritti digitali e un utente generico che può scaricare o vedere una versione con watermark del documento originale. La versione con watermark contiene un codice QR che è inserito ripetutamente, e criptato, dal proprietario dei diritti sul documento, nelle componenti in frequenza dell'immagine, così producendo l'immagine con watermark. Il codice QR contiene un identificativo firmato che univocamente identifica ogni utente che usa il sistema. Lo schema, di tipo non-cieco, raggiunge una buona qualità percettiva e una discreta robustezza usando il terzo livello della Trasformata Discreta basata su Wavelet. I risultati sperimentali mostrano che tramite l'inserzione di diverse occorrenze di un codice QR criptato otteniamo un approccio che è piuttosto resistente alla compressione JPEG, alla rotazione, al ritaglio, e al rumore sale e pepe.This paper presents a digital rights protection scheme for every type of document presented as an image, by using steps that use cryptography and watermarking. The entities involved in this process are two: the owner of the document that owns its digital rights and a generic user who can download or view a watermarked version of the original document. The watermarked version contains a QR code that is repeatedly inserted, and scrambled, by the document rights owner, into the frequency components of the image, thus producing the watermarked image. The QR code contains a signed ID that uniquely identifies every users using the system. The schema, a non-blind type, achieves good perceptive quality and fair robustness using the third level of the Discrete Wavelet Transform. The experimental results show that by inserting several occurrences of a scrambled QR code we get an approach that is quite resistant to JPEG compression, rotation, cropping, and salt and pepper noise

    We introduce here the spin-resolved version of the charge displacement function, which is applied to two competing pathways of proton-coupled electron transfer in oxidation catalysis (hydrogen-atom transfer, concerted proton-coupled electron transfer). The difference in charge displacement between the two mechanisms is directly observable and can be translated to electron flow using this new analysis tool

    Impact of chemotherapy regimen and rituximab in adult Burkitt lymphoma: a retrospective population-based study from the Nordic Lymphoma Group.

    BackgroundStandard treatment of adult Burkitt lymphoma is not defined due to the lack of randomised trials. In this situation, population-based data may represent a useful contribution in order to identify an optimal treatment strategy.Patients and methodsThe aims of this study were to investigate the outcome for adult HIV-negative BL with different chemotherapy regimens, and to assess possible improvement within the time frame of the study. The study population was identified through the Swedish and Danish lymphoma registries 2000-2009.ResultsA total of 258 patients were identified. Since 2000, overall survival (OS) improved significantly only for younger patients (<65 years). Intensive regimens such as the Berlin-Frankfurt-Münster, hyper-fractionated cyclophosphamide, vincristine, doxorubicin, and dexamethasone (hyper-CVAD) and cyclophosphamide, vincristine, doxorubicin, methotrexate, ifosfamide, etoposide, and cytarabine (CODOX-M/IVAC) were associated with a favourable 2-year OS of 82%, 83%, and 69%, respectively. The low-intensive CHOP/CHOEP regimens achieved a 2-year OS of 38.8%, confirming their inadequacy for the treatment of BL. In a multivariate analysis, rituximab was not significantly associated with improved OS.ConclusionsIn this population-based retrospective series of adult BL, intensive chemotherapy regimens were associated with favourable outcome. The impact of the addition of rituximab remains uncertain and warrants further investigation

    Non-Maxwellian electron distributions in clusters of galaxies

    Thermal X-ray spectra of clusters of galaxies and other sources are commonly calculated assuming Maxwellian electron distributions. There are situations where this approximation is not valid, for instance near interfaces of hot and cold gas and near shocks. The presence of non-thermal electrons affects the X-ray spectrum. To study the role of these electrons in clusters and other environments, an efficient algorithm to calculate the X-ray spectra is needed. We approximate an arbitrary electron distribution by the sum of Maxwellian components. The decomposition is done using either a genetic algorithm or an analytical approximation. The X-ray spectrum is then evaluated using a linear combination of those Maxwellian components. Our method is fast and leads to an accurate evaluation of the spectrum. The use of Maxwellian components allows to use the standard collisional rates that are available in plasma codes such as SPEX. We give an example of a spectrum for the supra-thermal electron distribution behind a shock in a cluster of galaxies. The relative intensities of the satellite lines in such a spectrum are sensitive to the presence of the supra-thermal electrons. These lines can only be investigated with high spectral resolution. We show that the instruments on future missions like Astro-H and IXO will be able to demonstrate the presence or absence of these supra-thermal electrons.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in Astronomy and Astrophysics, main journa

    Infrared absorption from Charge Density Waves in magnetic manganites

    The infrared absorption of charge density waves coupled to a magnetic background is first observed in two manganites La{1-x}Ca{x}MnO{3} with x = 0.5 and x = 0.67. In both cases a BCS-like gap 2 Delta (T), which for x=0.5 follows the hysteretic ferro-antiferromagnetic transition, fully opens at a finite T{0} < T{Neel}, with 2 Delta(T{0})/kT{c} close to 5. These results may also explain the unusual coexistence of charge ordering and ferromagnetism in La{0.5}Ca{0.5}MnO{3}.Comment: File revtex + 3 figs. in epsf. To appear on Phys. Rev. Let

    Phobos Regolith Simulant for MMX Mission: Spectral Measurement for Remote Target Identification and Deconvolution System Training

    The two natural satellites of Mars, Phobos and Deimos are both important targets for scientific investigation. The JAXA mission Martian Moons eXplorer (MMX) is designed to explore Phobos and Deimos, with a launch date scheduled for 2024. The MMX spacecraft will observe both Martian moons and will land on one of them (Phobos, most likely), to collect a sample and bring it back to Earth. The designs of both the landing and sampling devices depend largely on the surface properties of the target body and on how its surface is reacting to an external action in the low gravity conditions of the target. The Landing Operation Working Team (LOWT) of MMX started analyzing previous observations and theoretical/experimental considerations to better understand the nature of Phobos surface material, developing a Phobos regolith simulant material for the MMX mission [1]. At the Institute for Planetary Research of the German aerospace Center (DLR) in Berlin we performed a spectral characterization of the Phobos regolith simulant. Those data will be used to train an Artificial Neural Network (NN) to produce a system that could rapidly classify data during the mission and for endmember decomposition
