A new solution for mirror coating in γ\gamma-ray Cherenkov Astronomy

    Get PDF
In the γ\gamma-ray Cherenkov Astronomy framework mirror coating plays a crucial role in defining the light response of the telescope. We carried out a study for new mirror coating solutions with both a numerical simulation software and a vacuum chamber for small sample production. In this article, we present a new mirror coating solution consisting of a 28-layer interferometric SiO2_{2}-TiO2_{2}-HfO2_{2} design deposited on a glass substrate, whose average reflectance is above 90%90\% for normally incident light in the wavelength range between 300 and 550 nm.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures. Strongly nonlinear wave dynamics in a chain of polymer coated beads

    Get PDF
Strongly nonlinear phononic crystals were assembled from a chain of Parylene-C coated steel spheres in a polytetrafluoroethylene holder. This system exhibits strongly nonlinear properties and extends the range of materials supporting sonic-vacuum-type behavior. The combination of a high density core and a soft (low elastic modulus) coating ensures a relatively low velocity of wave propagation. The bead contact interaction caused by the deformation of the Parylene coating can be described by classical nonlinear elastic Hertz theory with an effective value of the elastic modulus equal to 15 GPa for the contact interaction. Strongly nonlinear solitary waves excited by impacts were investigated experimentally and compared to chains composed of uniform steel beads. Fracture of the polymer coating was detected under relatively large pulse amplitude

Anti-corrosion ceramic coatings on the surface of Nd-Fe-B repelling magnets

    Get PDF
The results of vacuum-arc deposition of thin ZrO₂coatings to protect the surface of Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets used as repelling devices in orthodontics are presented. The structure, phase composition and mechanical properties of zirconium dioxide films have been investigated by means of SEM, XRD, EDX, XRF and nanoindentation method. It was revealed the formation of polycrystalline ZrO₂ films of monoclinic modification with average grain size 25 nm. The influence of the ZrO₂ coating in terms of its barrier properties for corrosion in quasi-physiological 0.9 NaCl solution has been studied. Electrochemical measurements indicated good barrier properties of the coating on specimens in the physiological solution environment
