Exploration into technical procedures for vertical integration
Issues in the design and use of a digital geographic information system incorporating landuse, zoning, hazard, LANDSAT, and other data are discussed. An eleven layer database was generated. Issues in spatial resolution, registration, grid versus polygonal structures, and comparison of photointerpreted landuse to LANDSAT land cover are examined
Radio Frequency Identification Technology: Applications, Technical Challenges and Strategies
Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to discuss the technology behind RFID systems, identify the applications of RFID in various industries, and discuss the technical challenges of RFID implementation and the corresponding strategies to overcome those challenges.
Design/methodology/approach - Comprehensive literature review and integration of the findings from literature. Findings - Technical challenges of RFID implementation include tag cost, standards, tag and reader selection, data management, systems integration and security. The corresponding solution is suggested for each challenge.
Research limitations/implications - A survey type research is needed to validate the results.
Practical implications - This research offers useful technical guidance for companies which plan to implement RFID and we expect it to provide the motivation for much future research in this area.
Originality/value - As the infancy of RFID applications, few researches have existed to address the technical issues of RFID implementation. Our research filled this gap
Pragmatic Considerations in Mixed Music: a Case Study of La Rage
With access to powerful real-time DSP languages now easier than ever, the new generation of mixed music composers are able to manage both sides of the coin: they have the programming skills and the compositional concerns that were traditionally the responsibility of two different persons. This brings more and more sophisticated integration of technical resources and compositional gestures. A good example of such integration is the author’s piece La Rage. In the light of general comments on the seamless integration of technology in this piece, the author, by discussing how compositional and technical concerns interact in his process of creation, tries to pinpoint key considerations that help him achieve this. He proposes two major categories, portability and adaptability, and explains how they were addressed in this specific work
Affordances and Safe Design of Assistance Wearable Virtual Environment of Gesture
Safety and reliability are the main issues for designing assistance wearable
virtual environment of technical gesture in aerospace, or health application
domains. That needs the integration in the same isomorphic engineering
framework of human requirements, systems requirements and the rationale of
their relation to the natural and artifactual environment. To explore coupling
integration and design functional organization of support technical gesture
systems, firstly ecological psychologyprovides usa heuristicconcept: the
affordance. On the other hand mathematical theory of integrative physiology
provides us scientific concepts: the stabilizing auto-association principle and
functional interaction. After demonstrating the epistemological consistence of
these concepts, we define an isomorphic framework to describe and model human
systems integration dedicated to human in-the-loop system engineering. We
present an experimental approach of safe design of assistance wearable virtual
environment of gesture based in laboratory and parabolic flights. On the
results, we discuss the relevance of our conceptual approach and the
applications to future assistance of gesture wearable systems engineering
Patterns of information security postures for socio-technical systems and systems-of-systems
This paper describes a proposal to develop patterns
of security postures for computer based socio-technical systems and systems-of-systems. Such systems typically span many organisational boundaries, integrating multiple computer systems, infrastructures and organisational processes. The paper describes the motivation for the proposed work, and our approach to the development, specification, integration and validation of security patterns for socio-technical and system-of-system scale systems
Inventory of available data elements for the San Bernardino, California region
Elements of data sets that are available to be integrated for the San Bernardino vertical data integration project are given. Each of the data sets has specified for it the ownership, validity, accuracy and technical requirements for integration
Service architecture design for E-Businesses: A pattern-based approach
E-business involves the implementation of business processes over the Web. At a technical level, this imposes an application integration problem. In a wider sense, the integration of software and business levels across organisations becomes a significant challenge. Service architectures are an increasingly adopted architectural approach for solving Enterprise Applications Integration
(EAI). The adoption of this new architectural paradigm requires adaptation or creation of novel methodologies and techniques to solve the integration problem. In this paper we present the pattern-based techniques supporting a methodological framework to design service architectures for EAI. The techniques are used for services identification, for transformation from business models to service architectures and for architecture modifications
Supporting State Policymakers' Implementation of Federal Health Reform
Outlines the capacities states will need to implement federal healthcare reform in the areas of information and analysis, strategic implementation and planning, topic-specific technical assistance, communications, and coordination and integration
A microsensor array for biochemical sensing
A microsensor array to measure chemical properties of biological liquids is presented. A hybrid integration technique is used to mount four sensor chips on a micro flow channel: a pressure, temperature, pH, combined pO2 and pCO2 sensor chip. This results in a microsensor array which is developed to meet the technical requirements for space applications. The integration method allows to integrate other types of sensor chips. This multi-purpose and multi-user approach makes the microsensor array suitable for various biochemical applications
A new generation of real-time DOS technology for mission-oriented system integration and operation
Information is given on system integration and operation (SIO) requirements and a new generation of technical approaches for SIO. Real-time, distribution, survivability, and adaptability requirements and technical approaches are covered. An Alpha operating system program management overview is outlined
