Autor u memorijskom materijalu nastoji locirati i analizirati ono Å”to smatra trima osnovnim konstitutivnim i funkcionalnim elementima u sjećanjima na poplavu.

During the Spanish Civil War, the republicans were supported by numerous international brigades consisting of volunteers from 54 countries, among them approximately 1500 volunteers from the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Out of this figure, approximately 150 Dalmatians, mostly from Imotski, Zadar, Å ibenik and Split, fought in the war as well. The majority of them arrived to Spain from France and Belgium, where the most of them worked in the mines. The attempt to transfer from the Split surroundings around two hundred Dalmatians, inhabitants of Zagreb and Slovenes at the beginning of 1937 failed. Volunteers from Yugoslavia fought on the Madrid, Aragon, Levanto and Catalonian battlefields. After the retreat from Spain, the majority of the volunteers were captured at the camps St. Cypriene, Argeles, Gurs and Vernet, where around thirty of them are believed to have died due to severe life conditions. Several valuable testimonies of the Dalmatian ā€œSpaniardsā€, in safekeeping at the State Archives in Split, witness to this fact

Christā€™s Ethnonationalist Crucifixion: Sacralization of Ethnonationalist Agendas within Croatian Catholicism and Serbian Orthodoxyā€”Cases and Effects

In this article, the authors look into the theological background of the support that nationstates in the Western Balkans received during their formation at the end of the 20th century. Although many articles were written on the causes of the wars for national independence, and on the relationship between religious narratives and ethnic exclusion, very few were written on the theological support of the ethnic exclusion. The authors show that the roots of making ethnos and affiliation with certain nations in Eastern Europe can be found in the writings of late Pope John Paul II and Serbian Orthodox Bishop Nikolaj Velimirović. By analyzing their writings in which they turned ethnic and national affiliation into a religious value, the authors shed new light on the rise of nationalism in Eastern Europe, which is tightly connected to theological discourse

Narrating war in semi-documentary performances enables making sense of complicated and chaotic war development, but at its downside, power relations, stereotypes and mystification of survivors\u27 positions have been easily manipulated by different sides. The proposed article aims to reveal narrations in four performances: Letter from 1920 (by Oliver Frljić), The bridge over the blood (by Damir Avdić) and Turbo Paradiso (by Andras Urban) and Crossing the line (by Dijana MiloÅ”ević) in order to tackle and suppress potential stereotypes, partial representations and interpretations of the Balkan war. It investigates the intentions and approaches of interpreting war in theatre, and how those narrations contribute to remembering and social judgement toward or against war crimes during the war in Balkans in 90s. The fact that narratives are not neutral requires questioning their subjections and the position of the individual or the group who creates and disseminates them. The specific set of theatre images of victims/survivors and perpetrators in the proposed performances will be analyzed in order to outline the prevailing discourse and duties it serves, using it documentary or even testifying components, transforming them into performative art

The Blind Bard and the Unflagging Hierarch: Memories Of War and Self-Representations in Fascist Italy

The aim of this paper is to study two different and conflicting memories of the Great War developed in fascist Italy. In particular, an attempt will be made to focus on the cases of Carlo Delcroix and Roberto Farinacci. They were both born in 1890ā€™s and took part in the war, during which Delcroix was severely mutilated. Alongside the few traits they had in common, many differences divided their political lives. Farinacci soon joined Fascism, became one of the leaders of the radical wing and, in the second half of 1930s, supported the alliance with Nazi Germany. Delcroix, who led one of the most important veterans associations, defined himself in the public debate mainly as a war invalid and by doing so managed to find his own space in the fascist liturgy. As we will try to see, differences and similarities reflected on how they incessantly rethought the Great War. Through an analysis of their books, their public speeches and their participation in the commemorations, the paper tries to describe the connections between memories of the War and political needs. Indeed, not only were there many differences between Farinacciā€™s memory and that of Delcroix, but also the way in which they respectively recollected events changed over time, according to their relationship with the Regime and Mussolini. Thus, their attitudes toward the official ceremonies became an interesting perspective through which their interaction with the political framework can be studied

The present analysis focuses its perspective on the symbolic geography of Polish Romanticism decoded from works by Adam Mickiewicz (Paris lectures), Juliusz Słowacki (A journey from the Holy Land to Naples)and Cyprian Norwid (My homeland). The main thesis rests in answering the question: Does Romantic communal thinking present in the literary output of leading poets of the Polish Romanticism aim at mental constructions taken over from the mnemotopoi of the European heritage?
