A Polylogarithmic PRG for Degree Threshold Functions in the Gaussian Setting
We devise a new pseudorandom generator against degree 2 polynomial threshold
functions in the Gaussian setting. We manage to achieve error with
seed length polylogarithmic in and the dimension, and exponential
improvement over previous constructions
Is it possible to check micro ginning fiber quality preservation performance using reference seed-cotton materials?
In sub-Saharian countries, simple micro-gin, without seed-cotton cleaner nor lint-cleaner, is often used as a reference device for characterizing the performance of industrial gin plants for fiber quality preservation. It is however useful to check if this micro-gin itself is properly set and maintained. Reference seed-cotton materials, well homogenized with known variability level, and available in large quantities, may serve the purpose of monitoring the performance of the micro-gin in order to detect any malfunction or any drift. Therefore, it is expected that any deviation in SITC results on ginned reference seed-cotton materials from predetermined data would alert on altered ginning conditions. This experiment demonstrates the feasibility of setting mean values and confidence intervals on measured SITC characteristics on fiber samples, to later detect any malfunction or drift that may occur in practices, settings, or degradation in a micro-gin
Economic analysis of prawn culture in Andhra Pradesh - Some preliminary findings
Inadaquate supply of quality seed is one of the chief constraints that impedes the quick
development of ptawn culture. Estuaries still remain the largest source of prawn seed supply. They
are likely to remain so atleast for sometime in offing before the hatchery production of seeds is undertaken
commercially and massively. The Marine Products Export development Authority assists the
prawn farmers in setting up prawn seed banks by providing technical assistance on prawn culture,
undertaking site selection and farm surveys, preparing project reports for submitting to the banks to
get financial assistance, releasing subsidy to the tune of 16% on the capital cost of the project and
providing continued technical assistance throughout the culture period. Already some prawn farmers
have started establishing such prawn seed banks and supplying prawn seed commercially. This paper
presents and discusses results of case studies on the economic feasibility of setting up prawn seed
banks by fish farmers/prawn farmers
Edible oyster seed production and remote setting- Winter School on Recent Advances in Breeding and Larviculture of Marine Finfish and Shellfish
Throughout the world natural spat collection forms the basis of most oyster culture industries. Along the Pacific
Northwest USA coast, hatchery produced seed are used in the cultivation of the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas.
Natural seed collection is cheaper when compared to the cost of seed produced in the hatchery but is unpredictable.
However, in the recent years, more efficient methods of setting the oyster seed in remote areas have been developed
and this method is widely practiced no
Turing patterns in multiplex networks
The theory of patterns formation for a reaction-diffusion system defined on a
multiplex is developed by means of a perturbative approach. The intra-layer
diffusion constants act as small parameter in the expansion and the unperturbed
state coincides with the limiting setting where the multiplex layers are
decoupled. The interaction between adjacent layers can seed the instability of
an homogeneous fixed point, yielding self-organized patterns which are instead
impeded in the limit of decoupled layers. Patterns on individual layers can
also fade away due to cross-talking between layers. Analytical results are
compared to direct simulations
Surival of remote set seed of the clam Paphia malabarica : Effect of continued submergence and short term exposures to salinity variations
Globally clam mariculture is a very popular aquaculture activity. The seed for farming to a great extent comes from the natural bed but in many countries the hatchery produced clam seed is farmed. Most farmers also have adopted the convenient technique of remote setting the seed. Remote setting is the technique of setting the pediveliger larvae produced in hatcheries at sites away from the hatchery usually near the farm site. Paphia malabarica commonly known as the yellow foot clam or textile clam is an important resource and supports a commercial fishery in their places of occurrence. In the present experiment pediveliger larvae of P. malabarica produced in the hatchery of CMFRI at Tuticorin were remote set at the Calicut Marine hatchery complex after a transit period of 26 hrs. They were reared in the hatchery and before transferring these clams to the field two sets of experiments mainly to i) evaluate the effect of continued exposure to different salinities ranging from 0 to 35 ppt and ii) evaluate 10,15,20, and 25 ppt and subsequent revival in ambient salinity of 35 ppt were conducted to understand their tolerance to variations in salinity
