The donkey is charged with a rich, important biblical symbolism. Usually the kings choose a strong and combatant animal for ceremonies – a thoroughbred horse, an imposing elephant or even a camel. Christ enters Jerusalem on “the foal of a she-ass”, as the king of the Jews. This is to fulfil the the tradition – David has a “royal she-ass” and Solomon is anointed as king on a “wild donkey”. It is either wisdom or stupidity for a king to ride an animal symbolizing love of peace and sexuality. According to other interpretations, the male donkey is related to the material domain with its flesh and strength, whereas those who ride it in ceremonies have mastered this aspect of the human being and society…. However, how do we account for the fact that in Hebrew the ass’s foal is not a diminutive of the word ‘donkey’, as well as the fact that the she-ass signifies ‘slow pace’ and has nothing in common with the jackass? And what does Solomon’s wild donkey signify? The book replies to these curious questions and to the riddle as to why the king of the Jews rides “the foal of a she-ass” and the king is of the tribe of Judah, of whom Jacob/Israel prophesies that he will untie his donkey, just as the apostles set free the ass’s foal for which Jesus Christ sent them

Bible Localization and the Politics of Memory and Oblivion

For centuries the Bible and its teaching have been used to construct identities in the Western world. Today the range of ‘legitimate’ identities is much larger than several decades ago. Facing issues of ethnicity, religion, gender-role identity and sexual orientation, people are confronted with restated contemporary questions of ‘Who am I? and ‘What is the meaning of my life?’ These questions are often hard to answer and many people struggle with them throughout their whole lives. What we are witnessing today is an extreme case of what the author calls ‘groupcentric Bible translation’ or ‘Bible localization’, also referred to as ‘niche Bibles’. Groupcentric translation is a logical continuation of ethnocentric translation that distorts the other culture to suit the views of a new audience. Another way to describe this phenomenon is to use the term ‘localization’ taken from the software industry that describes any changes required to adapt a product to the needs of a particular ‘locale’, i.e. a group of people united by their common language and cultural conventions

Automated Observability Investigation of Analog Electronic Circuits using SPICE

In the present paper, a computer-aided approach to fault observability investigation of linear analog circuits is developed. The method is based on sensitivity investigation of the test characteristics in the frequency domain. The test frequencies are selected maximizing the sensitivity of the magnitude of the test characteristics. Applying postprocessing of the simulation results using macrodefinitions in the graphical analyzer Probe, a fault observability investigation of the circuit is performed. A number of sensitivity measures are defined in Probe for observability investigation of multiple faults using pre-defined macrodefinitions. Xenobiotic biotransformation potential of Pseudomonas rhodesiae KCM-R5 and Bacillus subtilis KCM-RG5, tolerant to heavy metals and phenol derivatives

Two environmental bacterial isolates KCM-R5 and KCM-RG5 were selected from xenobiotic-polluted environment. KCM-R5 was identified as Pseudomonas rhodesiae and KCM-RG5 as Bacillus subtilis. KCM-R5 demonstrated tolerance to heavy metals and KCM-RG5 to heavy metals and phenol derivatives. Both strains were studied for xenobiotic biotransformation in order to contribute towards bioremediation of polluted environments. Pseudomonas rhodesiae KCM-R5 and Bacillus subtilis. KCM-RG5 possess unusual ability to utilize ortho-nitrophenol (o-NP) and 2,4- dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). o-NP and 2,4-D were added at concentration 30 mg/l. The possible indictive/inhibiting effect of Pb cations (40mg/l) was also studied. Pseudomonas rhodesiae KCM-R5 removed 86 % of o-NP and below 1% of 2,4-D. Bacillus subtilis KCM-RG5 eliminated 83% of o-NP andunder 1% of 2,4-D. Biotransformation effectiveness of o-NP reached 95-100% in contrast to 2,4-D where the effectiveness was just 15-20%. Cell morphological changes were registered during the biotransformation processes. The obtained results could contribute to manage bioremediation processes in polluted with heavy metals and phenol derivatives environments. . 1, . 2, . 2, .
