More alike than different: : the Spanish and Irish labour markets before and after the crisis

This paper analyses the labour markets of Spain and Ireland, which have experienced a severe downturn in the recent global crisis as reflected by the largest increases in their unemployment rates among other developed economies. Spain and Ireland might seem at first to feature very different labour markets, which go from very tight to very flexible labour conditions. Our analysis, however, goes beyond this simplistic argument and brings to light the strong commonalities that seem to have been hidden underground. We estimate a dynamic multi-equation structural model for each country, and then offer two sets of dynamic simulations which account for the swings of the unemployment rates before and after the 2007 crisis. Our results suggest looking beyond the degree of flexibility of both labour markets, just to focus instead on other variables usually neglected by more conventional approaches. In particular, such variables as the growth of capital stock, the growth of labour productivity, and demographics, succeed in explaining a great part of the changes in unemployment in both countries.Este documento analiza los mercados laborales de España e Irlanda, que experimentaron una severa desaceleración en la reciente crisis mundial, como lo reflejan los mayores incrementos en sus tasas de desempleo entre otras economías desarrolladas. Al principio, España e Irlanda parecen tener mercados laborales muy diferentes, que van desde condiciones de trabajo muy ajustadas hasta condiciones laborales muy flexibles. Este análisis, sin embargo, va más allá de este argumento simplista y saca a la luz las fuertes similitudes que parecen haberse ocultado bajo tierra. Se estima un modelo estructural dinámico de multi-ecuaciones para cada país, y luego se ofrecen dos conjuntos de simulaciones dinámicas que dan cuenta de las oscilaciones de las tasas de desempleo antes y después de la crisis de 2007. Estos resultados sugieren mirar más allá del grado de flexibilidad de ambos mercados laborales, solo para centrarse en otras variables generalmente descuidadas por los enfoques más convencionales. Marginality in the context of the new rurality: application to the case of Malargüe in Mendoza, Argentina

In Malargüe, the southernmost department of the province of Mendoza, two different rural realities coexist: a small area with intensive farming around the urban centre, and a larger area where goat-grazing prevails. Whereas structural problems continue to affect extensive and transhumant cattle raising in the most fragile areas of the territory, in recent years the intensive agricultural development of vegetables, forestry and fodder has grown in the peri-urban area. From the perspective of the theoretical framework of marginality, both areas have different relations to the processes that characterise marginality. Flujo sobre obstrucciones complejas

Tanto en la ingeniería como en la naturaleza existen flujos que se desplazan a través de arreglos más o menos regulares de un número elevado de elementos. A este tipo de problemas que cubre un amplio rango de escalas se lo denomina de obstrucciones complejas. Esto ha llevado en general a que el modelado de este tipo de problemas se realice dividiendo el problema en dos escalas, la escala mesoscópica y la escala macroscópica. En nuestro grupo hemos trabajado en el tema de flujos que involucran obstrucciones complejas y en los últimos años hemos estado desarrollando un sistema de Velocimetría por Imágenes de Partículas que, en combinación con la técnica de anemometría térmica utilizada en los trabajos anteriores, nos permitirá mejorar los resultados experimentales obtenidos hasta el momento. El primer trabajo a desarrollar es la caracterización del funcionamiento de los anemómetros de hilo caliente en flujos a través de medios permeables. Esto permitirá en lo sucesivo conocer las posibilidades y limitaciones de este instrumento para el tipo de problemas de interés. Por otro lado, contando ahora con mejores herramientas experimentales y numéricas, se espera volver a estudiar el problema de inestabilidad de los flujos sobre obstrucciones complejas. Se propone estudiar experimentalmente la transición en este tipo de flujos más en detalle, obteniendo para cada caso un campo de velocidades detallado para la condición de estabilidad neutra. Finalmente se espera poder realizar un análisis, al menos preliminar, de las características del flujo al comienzo y al final de una obstrucción compleja y las estructuras fluidodinámicas que se orifinan aguas abajo.Both in engineering and in nature there are flows which move through more or less regular arrangements of a large number of elements. This type of problem, in which a wide range of scales is covered, is called complex obstructions. This has led in general to model this type of problem by dividing it into two scales, the mesoscopic scale and the macroscopic scale. In our group we have worked on the subject of flows involving complex obstructions and in recent years have developed a system of particle image Velocimetry that, in combination with the technique of thermal anemometry used in previous works, will allow us to improve the experimental results that we have obtained so far. The first work to be developed is the characterization of the operation of hot wire anemometers in a flow through permeable media. This will enable us to know the possibilities and limitations of this instrument for the type of problems of interest. On the other hand, counting now with better experimental and numerical tools, we hope to revisit the problem of the instability of obstacles over complex obstructions. It is proposed to experimentally study the transition in this type of situation in more detail, obtaining for each case a detailed velocity field for the neutral stability condition. Finally, it is expected to be able to perform an analysis, at least preliminary, of the flow characteristics at the beginning and at the end of a complex obstruction and the fluid-dynamic structures that are originated downstream

En oposición al teatro comercial, a fines de la década de 1920 en Buenos Aires, surgieron dos proyectos teatrales que, atraídos por la experiencia de la Rusia revolucionaria, postularon una renovación teatral de vanguardia. El presente artículo propone rastrear esas experiencias poco conocidas: el Teatro Libre y el Teatro Experimental de Arte (TEA), a través de las páginas de las revistas culturales Claridad e Izquierda, vinculadas a estas empresas teatrales, en tanto se presentan como un soporte privilegiado para examinar ciertos debates estético-políticos del período analizado.In opposition to the commercial theater, in the late 1920s in Buenos Aires, emerged two theater projects, attracted by the experience of revolutionary Russia, they postulated a vanguard theater renovation. Urban passenger transport development in the city of Corrientes

Durante las primeras décadas del siglo XX el tranvía, el ferrocarril y las vías fluviales con el tradicional sistema de la “balsa" se constituyeron en la única posibilidad de transporte de los habitantes de la ciudad de Corrientes. El surgimiento del transporte público de pasajeros modificó este incipiente sistema territorial. Si bien consolidó las áreas donde este se trazó, también ha sufrido modificaciones a raíz del surgimiento y desarrollo de centros acción (escuelas, hospitales, etc.) para servir las necesidades de la población y potenciar la expansión del área urbana. El trabajo tiene como propósito presentar una síntesis del desarrollo del transporte colectivo de pasajeros en la ciudad de Corrientes desde fines del siglo XX vinculado con el crecimiento de la población y los servicios sociales ya mencionados. Los primeros resultados del trabajo son de índole descriptiva y reflejan los cambios espaciales que ha sufrido la primitiva red de transporte público de pasajeros.During the first decades of the twentieth century, the tram, rail and waterways-with the traditional “raft" system set themselves up as the only means of transport for residents in Corrientes City. The emergence of public passenger transport system changed this incipient territorial system. Even if it consolidated the areas where this was traced, it has also been through changes following the emergence and development of action centers (schools, hospitals, etc.) to serve the population needs and enhance the expansion of urban area. The work aims at presenting a summary of the development of collective passengers transport in the city of Corrientes from late twentieth linked to the population growth and social services already mentioned.
