    Demands of People with Disabilities and Empowerment of Resilient Strategies

    The objective of the research is to identify the resilient strategies in people with disabilities of the Technical University of Manabí. The paper presents a conceptual analysis associated with disability in university students. Some points of view related to the strategies of attention to diversity are exposed. A conceptual analysis related to resilience is provided. The situation of disabled students who are enrolled in the different careers of the Technical University of Manabí is addressed, specifying the type of disability they have. An analysis of the population is made for the study and the selection of the sample. The data related to the measurement of resilience is exposed to disabled students, for which the method developed by (Saavedra & Villalta, 2008) was used, consisting of 60 items, divided into 12 specific factors of resilience. Finally, a vision related to the resilience strategy demanded by disabled students of the Technical University of Manabí is offered

    Leveling the Playing Field: Attracting, Engaging, and Advancing People with Disabilities

    People with disabilities experience significant challenges in finding employment. The participation of people with disabilities in the workforce and their median income are both less than half that of the civilian workforce. They work part time 68 percent more frequently than people without disabilities. These disheartening results persist despite the enactment of significant federal legislation aimed at making the workplace more supportive and accessible to people with disabilities. The Conference Board Research Working Group (RWG) on Improving Employment Outcomes for People with Disabilities was convened to address how to overcome these disparities. It was sponsored by the Employment and Disability Institute at Cornell University, under a grant from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research of the U.S. Department of Education. The RWG members focused on four questions: 1) The business case: Is it advantageous for organizations to employ people with disabilities? 2) Organizational readiness: What should organizations do to create a workplace that enables people with disabilities to thrive and advance? 3) Measurement: How can success for both people with disabilities and the organization itself be determined? 4) Self-disclosure: How can people with disabilities, especially those whose disabilities are not obvious, be encouraged to identify themselves so that resources can be directed toward them and outcomes can be measured

    The purpose of this study is to ascertain the accessibility status of One-Stop centers andthe ways that workforce development systems are serving people with disabilities. It is important to gauge how services to people with disabilities are being implemented around the country. While WIA requires that all services be fully accessible to people with disabilities , and that VR agencies be partners in the One-Stop system, the real success of the One-Stop system for people with disabilities depends on the commitment of local Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) and One-Stop Operators to create a system that responds to their needs. Services and programs for people with disabilities should not only focus on accessibility and nondiscrimination

    Summarizes the results of a December 2004 summit on connecting people with disabilities to the workforce.This summit examined the barriers to work that continue to exist for people with disabilities, as well as what supports and services are most critical to helping people with developmental and other disabilities enter and succeed in the workplace. Participants identified the four key stakeholders critical to people with disabilities (particularly severe disabilities) finding and keeping a job: jobseekers themselves, their family/caregivers, employers, and service providers/disability agencies. Each stakeholder plays a unique role in facilitating -- or hindering -- the employment of people with disabilities
