Theorising homophobic hate crime in Northern Ireland
Homophobic violence in Northern Ireland is an area which has come underthe spotlight in the wake of the ongoing, successful, peace process. Tosome degree the peace process itself has been accused of facilitating andoverlooking homophobic violence. This paper invokes a culturally relativeperspective in order to assess whether there are different dynamics whichay be impacting on the effectiveness of challenges and responses toomophobiamh and violence in Northern Ireland
The Westerbork HALOGAS Survey: Status and Early Results
We present early results from the ongoing Hydrogen Accretion in LOcal
GAlaxieS (HALOGAS) Survey, which is being performed with the Westerbork
Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT). The HALOGAS Survey aims to detect and
characterize the cold gas accretion process in nearby spirals, through
sensitive observations of neutral hydrogen (HI) 21-cm line emission. In this
contribution, we present an overview of ongoing analyses of several HALOGAS
targets.Comment: To appear in proceedings of IAU Symposium 277, "Tracing the Ancestry
of Galaxies on the Land of our Ancestors", eds. C. Carignan, K.C. Freeman,

A product line for workflow management systems
This paper presents an ongoing research on the development of a component-based product line architecture for workflow management systems. The research includes a process to design the proposed product line, the population of the product with components, the product member production process, architecture evaluation mechanisms using architecture description languages and support tools, a variability management process and the development of case studies to evaluate each proposed technique
The Search for an Epoxide Precursor in Trimethylenemethane (TMM) Cycloaddition Reactions
Trimethylenemethane (TMM) cycloaddition is a Pd(0)-catalyzed process in which new carbon rings are formed, which can be potentially useful in synthetic organic processes. The epoxide starting material (trimethyl(2-oxiranyl-2-propenyl)silane) was created in a three-step process from propargyl alcohol. This molecule was subjected to various reaction conditions in order to test the theoretical assumptions of the reaction mechanism. Efforts to characterize the product(s) are ongoing
Calibration, error analysis, and ongoing measurement process monitoring for mass spectrometry
We consider problems of quantifying and monitoring accuracy and precision of measurement in mass spectrometry, particularly in contexts where there is unavoidable day-to-day/period-to-period changes in instrument sensitivity. First we consider the issue of estimating instrument sensitivity based on data from a typical calibration study. Simple method-of-moments methods, likelihood-based methods, and Bayes methods based on the one-way random effects model are illustrated. Then we consider subsequently assessing the precision of an estimate of a mole fraction of a gas of interest in an unknown. Finally, we turn to the problem of ongoing measurement process monitoring and illustrate appropriate set-up of Shewhart control charts in this application. --
Institutionalization and Structuration: Studying the Links between Action and Institution
Institutional theory and structuration theory both contend that institutions and actions are inextricably linked and that institutionalization is best understood as a dynamic, ongoing process. Institutionalists, however, have pursued an empirical agenda that has largely ignored how institutions are created, altered, and reproduced, in part, because their models of institutionalization as a process are underdeveloped. Structuration theory, on the other hand, largely remains a process theory of such abstraction that it has generated few empirical studies. This paper discusses the similarities between the two theories, develops an argument for why a fusion of the two would enable institutional theory to significantly advance, develops a model of institutionalization as a structuration process, and proposes methodological guidelines for investigating the process empirically
CHALLENGES FOR ROMANIAN ECONOMY AS AN EUROPEAN UNION MEMBER STATES
Romanian economy is in an ongoing transformation process starting with 1990. These involve changes of legislation, institutions, human perceptions of economic activity and productivity in order to fulfill the new challenges. Transformation process have gaEuropean Union, economic integration, welfare
A comparison between single sided and double sided friction stir welded 8mm thick DH36 steel plate
As part of an ongoing process to fully evaluate the potential for friction stir welding (FSW) to be used in the shipbuilding industry, a comparison has been made between two variants of the process. 8mm thick DH36 steel plate was friction stir welded using a single sided and a double sided process. An assessment of the processes was made to report on the resultant distortion behaviour, hardness, yield strength, toughness and microstructure. As a further comparison, additional work on 8mm thick submerged arc welded (SAW) DH36 plate has been included as the current shipbuilding benchmark. The overall process feasibility will be assessed including the issue of the requirement to rotate the workpiece through 180° to complete the second side of the double sided process
