    The purpose of this chapter is to analyse international research in “pharmacology, toxicology and pharmaceutics” (hereafter pharmacology) on the basis of the scientific papers listed in the Scopus multidisciplinary database. This primary objective is reached by answering the following questions (in the section on results). What weight does the subject area “pharmacology, toxicology and pharmaceutics” carry in world-wide science? What is the percentage contribution made by the various regions of the world to the subject area “pharmacology, toxicology and pharmaceutics”? Can certain regions be identified as leaders on that basis, as in other scientific contexts? Are emerging countries present in the field? Do the most productive countries also publish the largest number of journals? What features characterise the scientific output of companies that publish pharmacological papers

    Multi-level Semantic Analysis for Sports Video

    There has been a huge increase in the utilization of video as one of the most preferred type of media due to its content richness for many significant applications including sports. To sustain an ongoing rapid growth of sports video, there is an emerging demand for a sophisticated content-based indexing system. Users recall video contents in a high-level abstraction while video is generally stored as an arbitrary sequence of audio-visual tracks. To bridge this gap, this paper will demonstrate the use of domain knowledge and characteristics to design the extraction of high-level concepts directly from audio-visual features. In particular, we propose a multi-level semantic analysis framework to optimize the sharing of domain characteristics

    Feelings of dual-insecurity among European workers: A multi-level analysis

    This article analyses European Social Survey data for 22 countries. We assess the relationship between feelings of employment and income insecurity (dual-insecurity) among workers and national flexicurity policies in the areas of lifelong learning, active labour market policy, modern social security systems and flexible and reliable contractual arrangements. We find that dual-insecurity feelings are lower in countries that score better on most flexicurity polices, but these effects are in all cases outweighed by levels of GDP per capita. Thus feelings of insecurity are reduced more by the affluence of a country than by its social policies. However, affluence is strongly correlated with the policy efforts designed to reduce insecurity, especially active labour market policies and life-long learning, two policy areas that are threatened with cuts as a result of austerity

In this paper focus is on MIEL (mesh-in-element) multi-scale method and its implementation with AceGen and AceFEM based on analytical sensitivity analysis. Such implementation enables efficient multi-scale modelling, consistency and quadratic convergence also for two-level path following methods for the solution of path dependent problems

    This paper analyses how organizational routines change. It focuses on the level of learning groups within organizations. The paper starts with a summary of the 'activity theory' of knowledge used. Next, the notion of scripts is used, to analyse organizational groups as 'systems of distributed cognition', and to identify different levels of routines and their change.     Kernel and user level execution trace analysis for multi-core distributed Linux systems

    The presentation will briefly introduce the organization of the DORSAL laboratory and the collaborative research and development projects undertaken with the financial support of industrial partners, including Ericsson, and the Canadian and Quebec governments. Then, several recent results in the area of kernel and user level tracing and trace analysis will be outlined, with emphasis on real-time, distributed, multi-core and heterogeneous Linux systems. Different widely used open-source tools developed collaboratively in the DORSAL laboratory, such as LTTng, Trace Compass and the Common Trace Format, will be described as well as how they were exploited to quickly find the critical path and uncover hard to find problems in several real industrial systems
