    Long line knots

We study continuous embeddings of the long line L into L^n (n>1) up to ambient isotopy of L^n. We define the direction of an embedding and show that it is (almost) a complete invariant in the case n=2 for continuous embeddings, and in the case n>3 for differentiable ones. Finally, we prove that the classification of smooth embeddings L \to L^3 is equivalent to the classification of classical oriented knots.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures, to appear in Arch. Long fluid filled bags suspended by line forces

    Get PDF
A previous analysis of fluid filled storage bags is extended to the case of a long fluid filled cylindrical membrane supported by uniform line loads. Cross-sectional shape, stiffness of the support system and stress resultants in the membrane are determined. The application of the numerical results to problems arising in the design of nonrigid airships is discussed

The purpose of this study is to determine the area tishi tor long line with a heat map setting in western Sumatra in 2015. The method used in this study is a survey method. The results of this study indicate the location of long line fishing ground is in the zone of archipelagic waters, depths, territorial sea, contiguous zone, ZEE and the high seas. seen from the results of catching the most is the transitional season II in the amount of 47. 232 kg while the catch at least the first transitional season that is equal to 17. 783 kg. significant correlation level with the coordinates of the catch and the more extensive range area of the arrest, the greater the results obtained fishermen. Poot arrest hos point fewest arrests West season with one point while most is the transition season 2 is two points hotspots with a radius of 0.2

Abstract.: We study continuous embeddings of the long line L \textsf{L} into Ln(n2) \textsf{L}^{n} (n \geq 2) up to ambient isotopy of Ln \textsf{L}^{n} . We define the direction of an embedding and show that it is (almost) a complete invariant in the case n = 2 for continuous embeddings, and in the case n4 n \geq 4 for differentiable ones. Finally, we prove that the classification of smooth embeddings LL3 \textsf{L} \to \textsf{L}^3 is equivalent to the classification of classical oriented knot

Non-line-of-sight tracking of people at long range

A remote-sensing system that can determine the position of hidden objects has applications in many critical real-life scenarios, such as search and rescue missions and safe autonomous driving. Previous work has shown the ability to range and image objects hidden from the direct line of sight, employing advanced optical imaging technologies aimed at small objects at short range. In this work we demonstrate a long-range tracking system based on single laser illumination and single-pixel single-photon detection. This enables us to track one or more people hidden from view at a stand-off distance of over 50~m. These results pave the way towards next generation LiDAR systems that will reconstruct not only the direct-view scene but also the main elements hidden behind walls or corners

Long term variability of the Broad Emission Line profiles in AGN

Results of a long-term monitoring (10\gtrsim 10 years) of the broad line and continuum fluxes of three Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN), 3C 390.3, NGC 4151, and NGC 5548, are presented. We analyze the Hα\alpha and Hβ\beta profile variations during the monitoring period and study different details (as bumps, absorption bands) which can indicate structural changes in the Broad Line Region (BLR). The BLR dimensions are estimated using the time lags between the continuum and the broad lines flux variations. We find that in the case of 3C 390.3 and NGC 5548 a disk geometry can explain both the broad line profiles and their flux variations, while the BLR of NGC 4151 seems more complex and is probably composed of two or three kinematically different regions.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures, New Astronomy Reviews (Proceeding of 7th SCSLSA), in pres
