A Spectral-Scanning Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Integrated System
An integrated spectral-scanning magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI) technique is implemented in a
0.12μm SiGe BiCMOS process. This system is designed for
small-scale MRI applications with non-uniform and low
magnetic fields. The system is capable of generating
customized magnetic resonance (MR) excitation signals, and
also recovering the MR response using a coherent direct
conversion receiver. The operation frequency is tunable from
DC to 37MHz for wide-band MRI and up to 250MHz for
narrow-band MR spectroscopy
Constraint control of distillation processes
There is a growing interest to design and operate chemical processes for reduced energy consumption. As an example a comparison is made between the distillation of binary mixtures in a conventional distillation column, a vapour recompression system and a two column heat integrated system. For all three configurations constraint control schemes are proposed. Utility costs can be reduced with about a factor of two by using a beat integrated system
Real-time phase correlation based integrated system for seizure detection
This paper reports a low area, low power, integer-based digital processor for the calculation of phase synchronization between two neural signals. The processor calculates the phase-frequency content of a signal by identifying the specific time periods associated with two consecutive minima. The simplicity of this phase-frequency content identifier allows for the digital processor to utilize only basic digital blocks, such as registers, counters, adders and subtractors, without incorporating any complex multiplication and or division algorithms. In fact, the processor, fabricated in a 0.18μm CMOS process, only occupies an area of 0.0625μm2 and consumes 12.5nW from a 1.2V supply voltage when operated at 128kHz. These low-area, low-power features make the proposed processor a valuable computing element in closed loop neural prosthesis for the treatment of neural diseases, such as epilepsy, or for extracting functional connectivity maps between different recording sites in the brain.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TEC2016- 80923-
An Integrated System at the Bleien Observatory for Mapping the Galaxy
We describe the design and performance of the hardware system at the Bleien
Observatory. The system is designed to deliver a map of the Galaxy for studying
the foreground contamination of low-redshift (z=0.13--0.43) H
intensity mapping experiments as well as other astronomical Galactic studies.
This hardware system is composed of a 7m parabolic dish, a dual-polarization
corrugated horn feed, a pseudo correlation receiver, a Fast Fourier Transform
spectrometer, and an integrated control system that controls and monitors the
progress of the data collection. The main innovative designs in the hardware
are (1) the pseudo correlation receiver and the cold reference source within
(2) the high dynamic range, high frequency resolution spectrometer and (3) the
phase-switch implementation of the system. This is the first time these
technologies are used together for a L-band radio telescope to achieve an
electronically stable system, which is an essential first step for wide-field
cosmological measurements. This work demonstrates the prospects and challenges
for future H intensity mapping experiments.Comment: 11 pages, 12 figures, 1 table, Submitted to MNRA
Experimental investigation on an integrated thermal management system with heat pipe heat exchanger for electric vehicle
An integrated thermal management system combining a heat pipe battery cooling/preheating system with the heat pump air conditioning system is presented to fulfill the comprehensive energy utilization for electric vehicles. A test bench with battery heat pipe heat exchanger and heat pump air conditioning for a regular five-chair electric car is set up to research the performance of this integrated system under different working conditions. The investigation results show that as the system is designed to meet the basic cabinet cooling demand, the additional parallel branch of battery chiller is a good way to solve the battery group cooling problem, which can supply about 20% additional cooling capacity without input power increase. Its coefficient of performance for cabinet heating is around 1.34 at −20 °C out-car temperature and 20 °C in-car temperature. The specific heat of the battery group is tested about 1.24 kJ/kg °C. There exists a necessary temperature condition for the heat pipe heat exchanger to start action. The heat pipe heat transfer performance is around 0.87 W/°C on cooling mode and 1.11 W/°C on preheating mode. The gravity role makes the heat transfer performance of the heat pipe on preheating mode better than that on cooling mode
