An ABC of drumming: children's narratives about beat, rhythm and groove in a primary classroom
In this paper, I use a bricolage of arts-based research and writing practices to explore narratives by Grade 4 children about their experiences in a drumming circle called 'Bam Bam' as represented in a text they created with me called An ABC of drumming. The term 'narrative' is used here in a contemporary sense to simultaneously invoke a socially and musically situated and constructed story (Chase, 2005 p. 657); as an 'account to self and others' (Barrett & Stauffer, 2009, p. 7) about drumming in a particular place, with a particular group of children during a particular set of events; and, to explore narratives of drumming as the 'shared relational work' of myself as a drummer, teacher, researcher and 'story-teller/story-liver' (Connelly & Clandinin, 1990, p. 12) alongside the children. In synchronicity with the ABC of drumming produced by the children, the paper itself is framed and written creatively around letters of the alphabet and variously includes poetry and data or research poetry; ethnographic 'thick descriptions' (Geertz, 1973) of our drumming circle; and, visual and textual expressions by the children. By doing so, my aim is to move collectively from 'narrative as a story-presented to narrative as a form of meaning-making, indeed, a form of mind-making' (Barrett & Stauffer, 2009, p. 10) about the children's experience of drumming and the drumming circle itself. The central question underpinning this paper then is, what makes children's experience in a drumming circle meaningful, and how do they make sense of such meaning
Under The Table And Dreaming.

Multimodal communication in courting fiddler crabs reveals male performance capacities
Courting males often perform different behavioural displays that demonstrate aspects of their quality. Male fiddler crabs, Uca sp., are well known for their repetitive claw-waving display during courtship. However, in some species, males produce an additional signal by rapidly stridulating their claw, creating a ‘drumming’ vibrational signal through the substrate as a female approaches, and even continue to drum once inside their burrow. Here, we show that the switch from waving to drumming might provide additional information to the female about the quality of a male, and the properties of his burrow (multiple message hypothesis). Across males there was, however, a strong positive relationship between aspects of their waving and drumming displays, suggesting that drumming adheres to some predictions of the redundant signal hypothesis for multimodal signalling. In field experiments, we show that recent courtship is associated with a significant reduction in male sprint speed, which is commensurate with an oxygen debt. Even so, males that wave and drum more vigorously than their counterparts have a higher sprint speed. Drumming appears to be an energetically costly multimodal display of quality that females should attend to when making their mate choice decisions
Host age selection behaviour of Trichogramma aurosum Sugonjaev & Sorokina (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae)
Host age selection in several German strains of Trichogramma aurosum Sugonjaev & Sorokina was
examined in laboratory choice tests under direct observation for 90 min., in order to select candidate
strains for attempts at controlling the codling moth, Cydia pomonella L. (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae).
Experiments were conducted at room temperature by exposing combinations of two host ages (zero
vs. 4 and 1 vs. 5-day old) to a single female wasp. Host age did not appear to affect the wasps
parasitization behaviour, although they spent longer time drilling on old eggs (4 and 5 days old)
compared with fresh ones (0 and 1 day old). This not necessarily means that they preferred fresh
eggs over old ones, since both type of hosts were parasitized in the choice test. Possibly an increased
mechanical resistance of the chorion of older eggs was responsible for the prolonged drilling
time. Mean drumming time was independent of host age. Mean duration of drilling and drumming
was in general longest in the first and last egg attacked by all T. aurosum strains tested and
for all host ages. Drilling time consumed more than 80% of the mean handling time of all strains
tested for all host ages, followed by resting and walking
DARI RITUAL MAGIS SAMPAI PADA KASUS PEMERKOSAAN: KEGELISAHAN YANG MENCAIR LEWAT KONSER MUSIK
This is a general overview of the musical concert of the final project in STSI Denpasar. My research suggests a tendency of the composers to derive from the traditional music composition. Some composers combined them with western music. Most of the themes are in response to the recent social phenomena with a specific mission to realize the aesthetic life in peacefulness

Research on forming quality of poly-wedge pulley spinning
As an important power transmission part, pulleys are widely used in automobile industry, agricultural machinery, pumps and machines. A near-net forming process for six-wedge belt pulleys manufacturing was put forward. For this purpose, the required tooth shape and size can be formed directly by spinning without machining. The whole manufacturing procedures include blanking, drawing and spinning. The spinning procedure includes five processes, performing, drumming, thickening, toothing and finishing. The forming defects occurred during each forming processes of poly-wedge pulley spinning, such as the drumming failure, flanged opening-end, folded side-wall, insufficient bottom size, flashed opening-end, cutting-off bottom, are introduced, and the factors influencing the defects are analyzed. The corresponding preventive measures are put forward

The evolution of rhythmic cognition: New perspectives and technologies in comparative research
Music is a pervasive phenomenon in human culture, and musical rhythm is virtually present in all musical traditions. Research on the evolution and cognitive underpinnings of rhythm can benefit from a number of approaches. We outline key concepts and definitions, allowing fine-grained analysis of rhythmic cognition in experimental studies. We advocate comparative animal research as a useful approach to answer questions about human music cognition and review experimental evidence from different species. Finally, we suggest future directions for research on the cognitive basis of rhythm. Apart from research in semi-natural setups, possibly allowed by “drum set for chimpanzees” prototypes presented here for the first time, mathematical modeling and systematic use of circular statistics may allow promising advances
