Iodosobenzene diacetate, an efficient reagent for the oxidative decarboxylation of carboxylic acids

3 pages, 1 table, 1 scheme. The oxidative decarboxylation of organic acids with concomitant replacement by a halogen (halodecarboxylation), through a radical intermediate, in the Hunsdiecker or modified Hunsdiecker reaction comprises an extremely useful and selective procedure for the syntheses of halogenated organic substances. The oxidative elimination of the intermediate radicals to give olefins is an interesting variation of the decarboxylation reaction of acids, which is usually accomplished with lead tetraacetate (LTA)/Cu(OAc)2.This work was supported by the Investigation Programme of the Comisión Asesora de Investigación Científica y Técnica.
