Is the LMA solar-neutrino solution ruled out by SN1987A data?
The development of new supernova neutrino detectors relies on the expected
hard energy spectrum of the nu_mu and nu_tau emitted in the supernova. We show
that SN1987A was sensitive to the large mixing angle (LMA) and "just so"
solution to the solar neutrino problem. We review the previous analysis of the
SN1987A data and propose a new analysis. The results of this analysis strongly
disfavor the LMA solution, provided the nu_mu and nu_tau are hard as predictedComment: 4 pages; 6 figures. Presented at the Europhysics Neutrino Oscillation

On -filtrations of Weyl modules
This paper considers Weyl modules for a simple, simply connected algebraic
group over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic
. The main result proves, if (where is the Coxeter
number) and if the Lusztig character formula holds for all (irreducible modules
with) regular restricted highest weights, then any Weyl module
has a -filtration, namely, a filtration with
sections of the form
, where is
restricted and is arbitrary dominant. In case the highest weight
of the Weyl module is -regular, the
-filtration is compatible with the -radical series of the module. The
problem of showing that Weyl modules have -filtrations was first
proposed as a worthwhile ("w\"unschenswert") problem in Jantzen's 1980 Crelle
paper.Comment: Latest version corrects minor mistakes in previous versions. A
reference is made to Williamson's recent arXiv posting, providing some
relevant discussion in a footnote. [Comments on earlier versions: Previous v.
1 with minor errors and statements corrected. Improved organization. Should
replace v. 2 which is an older version (even older than v.1) and was
mistakenly posted.
Psychopathology and Crime Causation: Insanity or Excuse?
One of the most controversial topics in the criminal justice industry is the insanity defense and its applicability or validity in prosecuting criminal cases. The purpose of this assignment is to identify and discuss psychopathology and crime causation in terms of mental illness, research, and the insanity defense. For this evaluation, information was gathered from scholarly research, textbooks, dictionaries, and published literature. These sources were then carefully reviewed and applied to the evaluation in a concise, yet informative, manner. This assignment also addresses some of the key terms in psychopathology and crime causation, including various theories, definitions, and less commonly known relevant factors influencing claims of mental instability or insanity. The conclusion of this evaluation shows that mental illness is a very real issue facing society and the criminal justice system. This evaluation is not exhaustive and while it does provide insight into the factors of psychopathology and crime causation, the evaluation could benefit from the input of professionals currently working within the criminal justice industry
Music in George Eliot\u27s Life and Works
In the following thesis the author has attempted to show the importance of music to George Eliot personally, and her response to it as portrayed by the various characters in her books. In this study it was necessary to point out the various phases of music with which George Eliot was familiar and the interesting way in which she incorporated them in her stories
The National Intelligencer Validating Cowardice: How a Washington D.C. Newspaper Redefined Defeat into Republican Victory
The fall and burning of Washington D.C. without substantial resistance by the American army and militia was initially an obvious disgrace, however the widely read Washington based newspaper, The National Intelligencer, sought to rewrite this story of defeat into a narrative highlighting republican virtue. Utilizing preexisting stereotypes perpetuated in their paper of British soldiers acting immoral, the staff of The National Intelligencer articulated that the men defending Washington had to return to their individual homes on account of the impending barbarism and savagery of the British invaders, therefore vindicating the militiamen of their lack of resistance and praising their virtuous paternalism
