The Narrations Pertaining to the Revelation of the Verse {And you may certainly not offend the Messenger of Allah, nor ever marry his wives after him}
”ayetinin sebeb-i nüzulü ile ilgili rivayetleri,
Ubeydullah (r.a)’
ın isminin geçtiği her rivayetin çok zayıf olduğunu, doğru olanın, yukarıdaki ayetin-
ayetin bağlamı delâlet ettiği gibi -Münafıklar hakkında indiğini belirtir. This paper is a critical analysis of the all the narrations that relate to the reason
why the verse ‘And you may certainly not offend the Messenger of Allah, nor ever
marry his wives after him’ (al-Aḥzāb, 53) was revealed. The texts and chains
of narration for each have been examined and explained in detail, with close attention
to difference of the narrations about whom the verse was revealed, and the context of the actual verse. It concludes that none of the narrations can be
authenticated rigorously: the strongest narration is an expedient (mursal) report
and it does not mention who the person in question was; anything that was narrated
by Ṭalha Ibn ‘Ubayd-‘Allah is severely weak. The verse actually pertains to
the hypocrites, as is clear from its context
Allah's Most Beautiful Names Being Established Only by Divine Permission a Principle-Establishing Analysis
Çalışmamız Esmâ-i Hüsnâ’nın tespitindeki tevkîfîlik şartı hakkında ilim ehlinin
görüşlerini sunmak sûretiyle bu meselenin nasıl temellendirildiğini ortaya koymaya
yöneliktir. Makalemizde öncelikle tevkîfîliği savunanlar nezdinde “tevkîf"in ne anlama
Of the issues that has been the subject of much discussion, both past and present, is
the condition of Tawqīf (being established by Divine permission) in establishing one of
Allah’s Most Beautiful Names. This issue concerns scholars and laymen alike because due
to them all remembering Allah, supplicating Him, or referring to Him in writing, with one
of his names. At times, names that have not been transmitted explicitly-such as al-Qadim
(the Pre-Eternal) and al-Sattar (the Oft-Veiling)-are used, resulting in condemnation from
some quarters.
This study establishes conclusive principles in this issue, by presenting the positions
of the scholars who condition tawqif, giving a precise definition of it according to how they
understand it, and finally, by concluding that tawqif does not necessarily negate the validity
of the linguistic derivation of a name, as long as certain conditions are met. The study is
supported by evidence and possible objections to the conclusion are answered
