    Get PDF
Abstract Purpose - This aim of this dissertation is to explore the affects of servitization on the performance objectives and effective value delivery of smartphone integrations. Design/methodology/approach - Survey strategy was adopted in this dissertation to collect primary data. Questionnaires were used to collect the customer requirements of smartphones. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect the manufacturers’ view on performance objectives of smartphone manufacturing and smartphone value delivery. SPSS was used to analyse the results of questionnaires, and interviews were analyzed case by case and then cross referenced. Comparison and contrast between customers’ view and manufacturers’ view were implemented to reflect the role of servitization and its implications on the performance objectives of smartphone and value delivery. Findings - It is found that, by adopting servitization strategy, the customer requirements of smartphone were shifted from device to smartphone services. The priority and nature of smartphone performance objectives were changed. Smartphone manufacturing firms play an important role in effective smartphone value delivery, and cooperation among stakeholders in the smartphone value supply network are important to effective value delivery as well. Research limitation/implications - This dissertation has several limitations. First, due to the time and geography restrictions, sample selected for data collection is not large enough to represent most of the population. Second, more cases companies should be involved in the interview so as to gathering more detailed information about manufacturing implementations. Finally, the influence on effective smartphone value delivery made by other stakeholders in the value delivery network, like service content provider, network provider, application provider and operating system provider would have added to rich this dissertation, but this may lead to lacking of original focus and made the research work unmanageable. Originality/ value - A more comprehensive definition of servitization is given in this dissertation. The empirical research of this dissertation is also unique, many points in this dissertation are practical and meaningful to instruct the implements of smartphone manufacturing and value delivery. Keywords: Servitization, Performance Objectives, Effective value delivery, Smartphone product and service

Interfacial Properties of Monolayer and Bilayer MoS2 Contacts with Metals: Beyond the Energy Band Calculations

Although many prototype devices based on two-dimensional (2D) MoS2 have been fabricated and wafer scale growth of 2D MoS2 has been realized, the fundamental nature of 2D MoS2-metal contacts has not been well understood yet. We provide a comprehensive ab initio study of the interfacial properties of a series of monolayer (ML) and bilayer (BL) MoS2-metal contacts (metal = Sc, Ti, Ag, Pt, Ni, and Au). A comparison between the calculated and observed Schottky barrier heights (SBHs) suggests that many-electron effects are strongly suppressed in channel 2D MoS2 due to a charge transfer. The extensively adopted energy band calculation scheme fails to reproduce the observed SBHs in 2D MoS2-Sc interface. By contrast, an ab initio quantum transport device simulation better reproduces the observed SBH in the two types of contacts and highlights the importance of a higher level theoretical approach beyond the energy band calculation in the interface study. BL MoS2-metal contacts have a reduced SBH than ML MoS2-metal contacts due to the interlayer coupling and thus have a higher electron injection efficiency.Comment: 36 pages, 13 figures, 3 table

Does P-type Ohmic Contact Exist in WSe2-metal Interfaces?

Formation of low-resistance metal contacts is the biggest challenge that masks the intrinsic exceptional electronic properties of 2D WSe2 devices. We present the first comparative study of the interfacial properties between ML/BL WSe2 and Sc, Al, Ag, Au, Pd, and Pt contacts by using ab initio energy band calculations with inclusion of the spin-orbital coupling (SOC) effects and quantum transport simulations. The interlayer coupling tends to reduce both the electron and hole Schottky barrier heights (SBHs) and alters the polarity for WSe2-Au contact, while the SOC chiefly reduces the hole SBH. In the absence of the SOC, Pd contact has the smallest hole SBH with a value no less than 0.22 eV. Dramatically, Pt contact surpasses Pd contact and becomes p-type Ohmic or quasi-Ohmic contact with inclusion of the SOC. Our study provides a theoretical foundation for the selection of favorable metal electrodes in ML/BL WSe2 devices

E-ffective: a visual analytic system for exploring the emotion andeffectiveness of inspirational speeches

What makes speeches effective has long been a subject for debate, and until today there is broad controversy among public speaking experts about what factors make a speech effective as well as the roles of these factors in speeches. Moreover, there is a lack of quantitative analysis methods to help understand effective speaking strategies. In this paper, we propose E-ffective, a visual analytic system allowing speaking experts and novices to analyze both the role of speech factors and their contribution in effective speeches. From interviews with domain experts and investigating existing literature, we identified important factors to consider in inspirational speeches. We obtained the generated factors from multi-modal data that were then related to effectiveness data. Our system supports rapid understanding of critical factors in inspirational speeches, including the influence of emotions by means of novel visualization methods and interaction. Two novel visualizations include E-spiral (that shows the emotional shifts in speeches in a visually compact way) and E-script (that connects speech content with key speech delivery information). In our evaluation we studied the influence of our system on experts' domain knowledge about speech factors. We further studied the usability of the system by speaking novices and experts on assisting analysis of inspirational speech effectiveness

Upregulation of MIAT Regulates LOXL2 Expression by Competitively Binding MiR-29c in Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma

Background/Aims: MIAT is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) involved in cell proliferation and the development of tumor. However, the exact effects and molecular mechanisms of MIAT in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) progression are still unknown. Methods: We screened the lncRNAs’ profile of ccRCC in The Cancer Genome Atlas database, and then examined the expression levels of lncRNA MIAT in 45 paired ccRCC tissue specimens and in cell lines by q-RT-PCR. MTS, colony formation, EdU, and Transwell assays were performed to examine the effect of MIAT on proliferation and metastasis of ccRCC. Western blot and luciferase assays were performed to determine whether MIAT can regulate Loxl2 expression by competitively binding miR-29c in ccRCC. Results: MIAT was up-regulated in ccRCC tissues and cell lines. High MIAT expression correlated with worse clinicopathological features and shorter survival rate. Functional assays showed that knockdown of MIAT inhibited renal cancer cell proliferation and metastasis in vitro and in vivo. Luciferase and western blot assays further confirmed that miR-29c binds with MIAT. Additionally, the correlation of miR-29c with MIAT and Loxl2 was further verified in patients' samples. Conclusion: Our data indicated that MIAT might be an oncogenic lncRNA that promoted proliferation and metastasis of ccRCC, and could be a potential therapeutic target in human ccRCC

Representing Functions in <i>H</i>2 on the Kepler Manifold via WPOAFD Based on the Rational Approximation of Holomorphic Functions

    No full text
The central problem of this study is to represent any holomorphic and square integrable function on the Kepler manifold in the series form based on Fourier analysis. Because these function spaces are reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces (RKHS), three different domains on the Kepler manifold are considered and the weak pre-orthogonal adaptive Fourier decomposition (POAFD) is proposed on the domains. First, the weak maximal selection principle is shown to select the coefficient of the series. Furthermore, we prove the convergence theorem to show the accuracy of our method. This study is the extension of work by Wu et al. on POAFD in Bergman space
