Crystalline Structure of Potassium Holmium Double Tungstate
The potassium holmium double tungstate was prepared by using top seeded solution growth technique. Structural investigations have been performed at room temperature. The KHo(WO4)2 single crystal belongs to the monoclinic space group C2/c with the unit-cell parameters: a = 10.624(2) Å, b = 10.352(2) Å, c = 7.5434(15) Å, β = 130.7
The magnetic properties of potassium holmium double tungstate
The magnetic investigations of potassium holmium double tungstate KHo(WO⁴)² have been performed. The results of measurements of magnetic susceptibility and magnetization as a function of temperature (T from 0.3 K up to 100 K) and magnetic field (up to 1.5 T) are presented. A strong anisotropy of magnetic properties was found. The magnetic measurements data were used to calculate the interaction energy. It was shown that the interactions between nearest neighbors Ho³⁺ ions have antiferromagnetic character
Magnetoelastic and Optical Studies of Low Temperature Magnetic Relaxation in Rare-Earth Orthoaluminates with Ising Ions
The new class of magnetic materials with low temperature magnetic relaxation was studied. It was evidenced that the crystal DyAlO with antiferromagnetically ordered high anisotropy rare-earth ions showed an exponential magnetic relaxation. For the first time low temperature magnetic relaxation was investigated by means of magnetostriction and rare-earth optical absorption spectra instead of standard magnetization measurements. The possible mesoscopic nature of tunneling process was suggested
Photoconductivity of BiTiPbO Single Crystal
Single crystals of mixed sillenites BiTiPbO were grown using the top seeded solution growth method. The pulse illumination was used to study the phototransport properties of these crystals. It was evidenced that the illumination changed the photoconducting properties by 4-5 orders of magnitude comparing with previously studied BiMeO, where Me = Ge, Si, Ti. The performed experiments indicate on the photogeneration of metallic grains in the insulating matrix of BiTiPbO. Correlations between photochromism and photoconductivity was established
Magnetic phase transition and magnetic structure of ground state in CsDyW
Magnetic phase transition in the CsDyW2O8 magnet has been studied by means
of low temperature specific heat C(T) measurements. The magnetic ordering temperature of
the Dy3+ sublattice was established to be 1.34 K. The experimental results indicate on the
antiferromagnetic character of interactions between Dy3+ ions. The behavior of the C(T)
dependencies above and below TN is discussed in frames of different theoretical models. The
measurements data on temperature and field dependencies of magnetization are used to
calculate the exchange and dipole-dipole interactions energy and to determine the possible
magnetic structure of the ground state
EPR of Yb 3+ ions in a monoclinic KY(WO 4) 2 single crystal
The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of Yb 3+ ions in a KY(WO 4) 2 single crystal was investigated at T=4.2 K and fixed frequency of 9.38 GHz. The resonance absorption observed on the lowest Kramers doublet represents the complex superposition of three spectra, corresponding to the ytterbium isotopes with different nuclear moments. The EPR spectrum is characterized by a strong anisotropy of the g-factors. The temperature dependence of the g-factors is shown to be caused by the strong spin-orbital and orbital-lattice coupling. The resonance lines broaden with increasing temperature due to the short spin-lattice relaxation times.
