Sutureless Aortic Valve Replacement – the First Experience in Trakya University

DergiPark: 378995tmsjIntroduction: We present the first experience of sutureless aortic bioprosthesis valve replacement in Trakya University Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic. Case report:A 71 year-old female patient with shortness of breath admitted to the cardiology clinic. In physical examination, there was a 3/6 systolic murmur on aortic area spreading to the neck. In the echocardiography, severe aortic stenosis and mild aortic insufficiency was found. In coronary angiography, 90% stenosis was found on proximal portion of left anterior descending coronary artery. Aortic valve replacement and coronary artery by-pass operation was planned. Results: The first sutureless aortic valve replacement in Trakya University Hospital was performed successfully and the patient was discharged from the hospital without any complication

A Case Report: Radiofrequency Ablation For Osteoid Osteoma

DergiPark: 379035tmsjAims: Osteoid osteomas are benign bone-forming tumors which usually occur in long bones of young males. Its most significant finding is severe pain caused by nidus, increasing during nights. The application of radiofrequency ablation is becoming a widespread treatment method. In this case presentation, the aim is to discuss the application of radiofrequency ablation with its different aspects Case Report: Fourteen-year-old male patient had a history of left knee pain for 3 years. After his consultation at Trakya University Orthopaedics and Traumatology Outpatient Clinic, it was confirmed that the pain increases during night and it is localized in left thigh. According to these symptoms, radiological examinations performed to the patient. Taking radiology tests results into consideration, the patient was diagnosed with osteoid osteoma and treated by radiofrequency ablation. Conclusion: Osteoid osteoma is a surgical bone lesion but in late period radiofrequency ablation replaces open surgery because it has a lower risk of relapse, faster recovery, shorter hospitalization time and faster ambulation

Preoperative Lipid Profile of Patients Operated For Coronary Bypass Surgery

DergiPark: 379072tmsjAims: Dyslipidemia is a major risk factor for atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. Evidence showed that an atherogenic lipid pattern is characterized by high levels of small, dense low-density lipoprotein, low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, elevated triglyceride and total cholesterol levels; similar with the lipid profiles of diabetics.Methods: In this study, 91 patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting in Trakya University Hospital Department of Cardiovascular Surgery from April 2017 to September 2017 were analyzed retrospectively. As for statistical analysis, Student’s t-test and Mann Whitney U tests were performed.Results: The lipid profiles of patients were not significantly related to their ages and genders. However, when diabetic patients’ lipid profiles were analyzed, their low-density lipoprotein, and total cholesterol values were found to be significantly lower.Conclusion: It is unexpected to see that patients with diabetes had significantly lower total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein levels than non-diabetic patients. Evaluating the Prevalence of Depression, Sleep Quality and Social Phobia Among Trakya University Hospital Residents

DergiPark: 379051tmsjAims: The purpose of this study is to determine and evaluate the depression, sleep quality and social anxiety levels among medical residents at Trakya University Hospital.Methods: This questionnaire study was conducted among 105 voluntary medical residents at Trakya University Hospital. Beck Depression Inventory, Pitssburgh Sleep Quality Index and Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale was used to assess depression, sleep quality and social phobia. As for statistical analyses, chi-square, Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney Tests were used for analyzing categorical and continuous data.Results: It was found out that 39% of them had depressive symptoms ranging from “mild depressive” to “very severe depressive”, when 14.3% had poor sleep quality and 87.6% had social anxiety symptoms ranging from “moderate social anxiety” to “very severe social anxiety”. Beck Depression Score for surgical residents was significantly higher than basic sciences residents, when female residents had a significantly higher score for social anxiety in comparison with male residents.Conclusion: The prevalence of depression, poor sleep quality and social anxiety among residents was found to be higher than expected which might be due to stress, heavy workload and lifestyle of physician
