    The An−1(1)A^{(1)}_{n-1} trigonometric vertex model with {\it generic non-diagonal} boundaries is studied. The double-row transfer matrix of the model is diagonalized by algebraic Bethe ansatz method in terms of the intertwiner and the corresponding face-vertex relation.     Meta-analysis of airway epithelium gene expression in asthma

    Differential gene expression in the airway epithelium of patients with asthma versus controls has been reported in several studies. However, there is no consensus on which genes are reproducibly affected in asthma. We sought to identify a consensus list of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) using a meta-analysis approach. We identified eight studies with data that met defined inclusion criteria. These studies comprised 355 cases and 193 controls and involved sampling either bronchial or nasal epithelium. We conducted study-level analyses, followed by a meta-analysis. Likewise, we applied a meta-analysis framework to the results of study-level pathway enrichment. We identified 1273 DEGs, 431 of which had not been identified in previous studies. 450 DEGs exhibited large effect sizes and were robust to study population differences in age, sex, race/ethnicity, medication use, smoking status and exacerbations. The magnitude of differential expression of these 450 genes was highly similar in bronchial and nasal airway epithelia. Meta-analysis of pathway enrichment revealed a number of consistently dysregulated biological pathways, including putative transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulators. In total, we identified a set of genes that is consistently dysregulated in asthma, that links to known and novel biological pathways, and that will inform asthma subtype identification

    We obtain a class of non-diagonal solutions of the reflection equation for the trigonometric An−1(1)A^{(1)}_{n-1} vertex model. The solutions can be expressed in terms of intertwinner matrix and its inverse, which intertwine two trigonometric R-matrices.     Solitons in polarized double layer quantum Hall systems

    A new manifestation of interlayer coherence in strongly polarized double layer quantum Hall systems with total filling factor ν=1\nu=1 in the presence of a small or zero tunneling is theoretically predicted. It is shown that moving (for small tunneling) and spatially localized (for zero tunneling) stable pseudospin solitons develop which could be interpreted as mobile or static charge-density excitations.     Coulomb Correlations and Magnetic Anisotropy in ordered L10L1_0 CoPt and FePt alloys

    We present results of the magneto-crystalline anisotropy energy (MAE) calculations for chemically ordered L10L1_0 CoPt and FePt alloys taking into account the effects of strong electronic correlations and spin-orbit coupling. The local spin density + Hubbard U approximation (LSDA+U) is shown to provide a consistent picture of the magnetic ground state properties when intra-atomic Coulomb correlations are included for both 3dd and 5dd elements. Our results demonstrate significant and complex contribution of correlation effects to large MAE of these material.Comment: revised version; 4 pages, 2 figure

    Closed string tachyons, flips and conifolds

    Following the analysis of tachyons and orbifold flips described in hep-th/0412337, we study nonsupersymmetric analogs of the supersymmetric conifold singularity and show using their toric geometry description that they are nonsupersymmetric orbifolds of the latter. Using linear sigma models, we see that these are unstable to localized closed string tachyon condensation and exhibit flip transitions between their two small resolutions (involving 2-cycles), in the process mediating mild dynamical topology change. Our analysis shows that the structure of these nonsupersymmetric conifolds as quotients of the supersymmetric conifold obstructs the 3-cycle deformation of such singularities, suggesting that these nonsupersymmetric conifolds decay by evolving towards their stable small resolutions.Comment: Latex, 22 pgs, 2 figs. v4: matches JHEP version, 29 pgs, 3 figures, more elaborate Introduction, various clarifications adde

    Semiclassical Quantization for the Spherically Symmetric Systems under an Aharonov-Bohm magnetic flux

    The semiclassical quantization rule is derived for a system with a spherically symmetric potential V(r)∼rνV(r) \sim r^{\nu} (−2<ν<∞)(-2<\nu <\infty) and an Aharonov-Bohm magnetic flux. Numerical results are presented and compared with known results for models with ν=−1,0,2,∞\nu = -1,0,2,\infty. It is shown that the results provided by our method are in good agreement with previous results. One expects that the semiclassical quantization rule shown in this paper will provide a good approximation for all principle quantum number even the rule is derived in the large principal quantum number limit n≫1n \gg 1.     Ballistic electron motion in a random magnetic field

    Using a new scheme of the derivation of the non-linear σ\sigma-model we consider the electron motion in a random magnetic field (RMF) in two dimensions. The derivation is based on writing quasiclassical equations and representing their solutions in terms of a functional integral over supermatrices QQ with the constraint Q2=1Q^2=1. Contrary to the standard scheme, neither singling out slow modes nor saddle-point approximation are used. The σ\sigma-model obtained is applicable at the length scale down to the electron wavelength. We show that this model differs from the model with a random potential (RP).However, after averaging over fluctuations in the Lyapunov region the standard σ\sigma-model is obtained leading to the conventional localization behavior.Comment: 10 pages, no figures, to be submitted in PRB v2: Section IV is remove
