Friendship, love, a close relationship with another person – at the certain stage of life these concepts affect almost every one of us. It is worth to highlight, that our relationships with other people can provide a valuable piece of information not only about ourselves, but also about the state or condition of our society. Social reality is a field where a variety of processes and transformations takes place and along with them follows the change of the nature of close interpersonal relationships. Western societies are udeniably headed towards generalized individualization, where individuals are freed from the rigid social structures and claim the right to greater autonomy, independence and self-reliance in creating their own identity. How do the above transformations contribute to the aspect of intimate relationships? Does intimacy finds itself in “a state of siege” and the relationship with another person appears as a source of stress and tension? Are contemporary transformations of intimacy cause an opportunity or rather a chance to create more expressive and fulfilling relationships than in the past?Przyjaźń, miłość, bliski związek z drugą osobą to pojęcia, które na pewnym etapie życia dotyczą niemal każdego z nas. Warto zaznaczyć, iż to, jak wyglądają nasze relacje z innymi ludźmi, może dostarczyć cennych informacji nie tylko o nas samych, ale też może wiele powiedzieć o kondycji naszego społeczeństwa. Rzeczywistość społeczna jest polem, na którym zachodzą liczne procesy i przemiany, a wraz z nimi zmienia się charakter bliskich więzi międzyludzkich. Społeczeństwa zachodnie niewątpliwie zmierzają w stronę zgeneralizowanej indywidualizacji, gdzie jednostka wyzwala się spod skostniałych struktur społecznych i rości sobie prawo do coraz większej autonomii, niezależności i samodzielności w tworzeniu własnej tożsamości. Jak zatem przytoczone powyżej przekształcenia przekładają się na aspekt relacji intymnych? Czy obecnie intymność faktyczne znalazła się w „stanie oblężenia”, a związek z drugą osobą jawi się jako źródło napięć i stresów? Czy współczesne przemiany intymności stwarzają raczej szansę na zawieranie bardziej wyrazistych i pełniejszych więzi niż kiedykolwiek w przeszłości

Ryzyko ekologiczne jako ryzyko społeczne. Na ile „rzeczywista” jest katastrofa klimatyczna?

The necessity of dealing with risk undoubtedly accompanies society at every stage of its development and so it does today. The worldwide risk society is a proper denotation of today’s reality according to German sociologist U. Beck. The category describes the world of global threats, which source is civilization itself as well as scientific and technological progress. It is also a period in which the social consciousness of risk is fundamentally crystallized and in which the rigid distinction between the calculated (objective) risk and its (subjective) awareness is all the more blurred. One of the challenges of this reality is the issue of environmental change (ecological risk). The modern debate surrounding potential global warming, the importance attributed to the ecological security aspect and the number of actors involved in this issue, forces to reflect that climate change is not just a purely natural issue (just look at possible political, economic, and social costs of global warming).Konieczność radzenia sobie z ryzykiem jest niewątpliwie kwestią towarzyszącą społeczeństwu na każdym etapie jego rozwoju, nie inaczej jest współcześnie. Społeczeństwo (światowego) ryzyka, bo tak dzisiejszą rzeczywistość określa niemiecki socjolog U. Beck, jest kategorią opisującą świat globalnych zagrożeń, których źródłem jest sama cywilizacja i postęp naukowo-technologiczny. Jest to także okres, w którym w sposób zasadniczy krystalizuje się społeczna świadomość ryzyka, w ramach której bardziej niż kiedykolwiek zatarciu ulega sztywne rozróżnienie między obliczalnym (obiektywnym) ryzykiem a jego (subiektywną) świadomością. Jednym z wyzwań tej rzeczywistości jest kwestia zmian środowiska naturalnego (ryzyko ekologiczne). Tocząca się współcześnie debata wokół potencjalnego ocieplenia klimatu, znaczenie, jakie przypisuje się aspektowi bezpieczeństwa ekologicznego oraz liczba aktorów zaangażowanych w ten problem wymuszają refleksję, iż zmiana klimatyczna to nie tylko problem czysto przyrodniczy (wystarczy spojrzeć na ewentualne polityczne, ekonomiczne i społeczne koszty globalnego ocieplenia)

Social activity of academic youth. Report on the research of students from the Marie Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin

In today's world, social activity is an extremely important element in the process of building a civil society and social capital. Moreover, apart from activities for the common good, this aspect is a key element of personal development, allowing even to gain highly-valued experience in the labor market. Considering the age, lifestyle and educational capital of university students. it can be assumed that this group may be characterized by a high level of activity in the social field. However, numerous analyz-es carried out by research institutions indicate a low level of this activity among the university students. The article is an attempt to verify the above thesis based on studies carried out among students of the Marie Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. In the assumption, the article points to: diagnosis of the tendency of students to undertake social activities; assessment of the values that determine pro-social and "pro-civil" attitudes, which constitute a barrier to the development of this field; and draws attention to the activi-ties that prevail, and which become marginalized
