Development of chip passivated monolithic complementary MISFET circuits with beam leads
Fabrication method is described for alumina passivated silicon MISFET arrays. Technique involves total passivation beam-lead approach and provides completely sealed chip with double level interconnect capability. Refractory metal alloy is used to form interconnect system and obtain metal contacts that withstand temperatures of 873 K for short periods of time
Velocity correlations in dense granular gases
We report the statistical properties of spherical steel particles rolling on
an inclined surface being driven by an oscillating wall. Strong dissipation
occurs due to collisions between the particles and rolling and can be tuned by
changing the number density. The velocities of the particles are observed to be
correlated over large distances comparable to the system size. The distribution
of velocities deviates strongly from a Gaussian. The degree of the deviation,
as measured by the kurtosis of the distribution, is observed to be as much as
four times the value corresponding to a Gaussian, signaling a significant
breakdown of the assumption of negligible velocity correlations in a granular

Grain Dynamics in a Two-dimensional Granular Flow
We have used particle tracking methods to study the dynamics of individual
balls comprising a granular flow in a small-angle two-dimensional funnel. We
statistically analyze many ball trajectories to examine the mechanisms of shock
propagation. In particular, we study the creation of, and interactions between,
shock waves. We also investigate the role of granular temperature and draw

Consistency of the Regularization of Gauge Theories by High Covariant Derivatives
We show that regularization of gauge theories by higher covariant derivatives
and gauge invariant Pauli-Villars regulators is a consistent method if the
Pauli-Villars vector fields are considered in a covariant in the regulating
Pauli-Villars fields is pathological and the original Slavnov proposal in
covariant Landau gauge is not correct because of the appearance of massless
modes in the regulators which do not decouple when the ultraviolet regulator is
removed. In such a case the method does not correspond to the regularization of
a pure gauge theory but that of a gauge theory in interaction with massless
ghost fields. This explains the problems pointed out by Martin and Ruiz in
covariant Landau gauge. However, a minor modification of Slavnov method
provides a consistent regularization even for such a case. The regularization
that we introduce also solves the problem of overlapping divergences in a way
similar to geometric regularization and yields the standard values of the

Propagating front in an excited granular layer
A partial monolayer of ~ 20000 uniform spherical steel beads, vibrated
vertically on a flat plate, shows remarkable ordering transitions and
cooperative behavior just below 1g maximum acceleration. We study the stability
of a quiescent disordered or ``amorphous'' state formed when the acceleration
is switched off in the excited ``gaseous'' state. The transition from the
amorphous state back to the gaseous state upon increasing the plate's
acceleration is generally subcritical: An external perturbation applied to one
bead initiates a propagating front that produces a rapid transition. We measure
the front velocity as a function of the applied acceleration. This phenomenon
is explained by a model based on a single vibrated particle with multiple
attractors that is perturbed by collisions. A simulation shows that a
sufficiently high rate of interparticle collisions can prevent trapping in the

The Importance of Time Congruity in the Organisation.
In 1991 Kaufman, Lane, and Lindquist proposed that time congruity in terms of an individual's time preferences and the time use methods of an organisation would lead to satisfactory performance and enhancement of quality of work and general life. The research reported here presents a study which uses commensurate person and job measures of time personality in an organisational setting to assess the effects of time congruity on one aspect of work life, job-related affective well-being. Results show that time personality and time congruity were found to have direct effects on well-being and the influence of time congruity was found to be mediated through time personality, thus contributing to the person–job (P–J) fit literature which suggests that direct effects are often more important than indirect effects. The study also provides some practical examples of ways to address some of the previously cited methodological issues in P–J fit research
Work characteristics and employee outcomes in local government
The overall objective of this study was to examine the work characteristics that make significant contributions to extra-role performance (as measured by the helping dimension of citizenship behaviour) and employee wellbeing (measured by job satisfaction and psychological health) in a local government. The work characteristics examined were based on the demand-control-support (DCS) model, augmented by organization-specific characteristics. The results indicate that characteristics described in the core DCS are just as relevant to extra-role performance as they are to more traditional indicators of job stress. Although the more situation-specific conditions were not predictive of citizenship behaviour, they made unique contributions to job satisfaction<br /

KNIME-CDK: Workflow-driven cheminformatics
BACKGROUND: Cheminformaticians have to routinely process and analyse libraries of small molecules. Among other things, that includes the standardization of molecules, calculation of various descriptors, visualisation of molecular structures, and downstream analysis. For this purpose, scientific workflow platforms such as the Konstanz Information Miner can be used if provided with the right plug-in. A workflow-based cheminformatics tool provides the advantage of ease-of-use and interoperability between complementary cheminformatics packages within the same framework, hence facilitating the analysis process. RESULTS: KNIME-CDK comprises functions for molecule conversion to/from common formats, generation of signatures, fingerprints, and molecular properties. It is based on the Chemistry Development Toolkit and uses the Chemical Markup Language for persistence. A comparison with the cheminformatics plug-in RDKit shows that KNIME-CDK supports a similar range of chemical classes and adds new functionality to the framework. We describe the design and integration of the plug-in, and demonstrate the usage of the nodes on ChEBI, a library of small molecules of biological interest. CONCLUSIONS: KNIME-CDK is an open-source plug-in for the Konstanz Information Miner, a free workflow platform. KNIME-CDK is build on top of the open-source Chemistry Development Toolkit and allows for efficient cross-vendor structural cheminformatics. Its ease-of-use and modularity enables researchers to automate routine tasks and data analysis, bringing complimentary cheminformatics functionality to the workflow environment
