Promoting physical activity among university students: a systematic review of controlled trials
Objective:
University study is often accompanied by a decline in physical activity (PA) levels but can offer the opportunity to
promote a lifelong active lifestyle. This review aims to summarize controlled trials of interventions promoting PA among uni-
versity students, describing the quality of the evidence, effective strategies, and deficiencies in the interventions employed, to
provide directions for future research and for practical implementations.

PubMed, PsychINFO, Cochrane Library, Education Source, and SPORTDiscus.
Study Inclusion Criteria:
Randomized or nonrandomized controlled trial, describing an intervention to promote PA in uni-
versity students, where PA was one of the outcomes and results were published in English.
Data Extraction:
Country, study design, participants\u2019 inclusion criteria, participation rate and characteristics, randomization,
blinding, theoretical framework, intervention characteristics, participant retention rate and withdrawal reasons, measures
employed, data analysis, PA results, and findings regarding PA correlates.
Data Synthesis:
Data were synthetized considering study characteristics, strategies used, and outcomes.
Results:
Two thousand five hundred eighty-five articles were identified. Twenty-seven studies met the inclusion criteria. Sixteen
studies reported an increase in PA levels.
Conclusion:
Physical Activity promotion interventions should address a range of behavioral determinants. Personalized
approaches and PA sessions should be considered in future studies. The high risk of bias of many studies (mainly due to attrition
and poor reporting) and missing information about intervention components limit the strength of conclusions about the most
effective strategies and the evidence of effectiveness, highlighting the need for further high-quality studies

School Leadership and Equity : an examination of policy response in Scotland
In this paper we adopt a critical perspective on the implementation of policy on school leadership and equity in Scotland, viewing policy as both an attempt to solve problems and an attempt to persuade social actors to subscribe to particular beliefs that delineate action. We begin by offering a definition of “policy response”, and then examine how policy “conversations” establish consensus around such things as school leadership and equity. We examine Scottish policy on school leadership and equity and consider what practices this policy does, and does not permit. In so doing, our examination of the implementation of policy on school leadership and equity in Scotland acknowledges that such policy is in part extemporized, and in part the attempt to make inevitable a “de-stated” account of governance. We conclude by contextualising our forthcoming empirical study of the Leadership Standards for Social Justice in Scotlan
Institutional features of wage bargaining in 23 European countries, the US and Japan
This paper presents information on wage bargaining institutions, collected using a standardised questionnaire. Our data provide information from 1995 and 2006, for four sectors of activity and the aggregate economy, considering 23 European countries, plus the US and Japan. Main findings include a high degree of regulation in wage setting in most countries. Although union membership is low in many countries, union coverage is high and almost all countries also have some form of national minimum wage. Most countries negotiate wages on several levels, the sectoral level still being the most dominant, with an increasingly important role for bargaining at the firm level. The average length of collective bargaining agreements is found to lie between one and three years. Most agreements are strongly driven by developments in prices and eleven countries have some form of indexation mechanism which affects wages. Cluster analysis identifies three country groupings of wage-setting institutions. Not “One China,” not “One Culture”: Multicultural Exploration of Differences and Similarities Between Mainland China and Taiwan
This study focuses on the outwardly similar cultures of Taiwan and mainland China and the subtle differences within them. The study was conducted as part of the requirements of doctoral program in Instructional Design and Development at a public university in the southeastern United States. Using a qualitative case study approach, the study demonstrates that there are cultural similarities between mainland China and Taiwan, however instructors should also be aware of the differences when developing relationships with students and developing course content. A mini-workshop was developed for the study to help teach instructors about the two cultures. However, the mini-workshop can be modified to suit the cultural context. This can lead this tool being used to help instructors design effective content for learners from diverse locations
Demonstration of a Balloon Borne Arc-Second Pointer Design
Many designs for utilizing stratospheric balloons as low-cost platforms on which to conduct space science experiments have been proposed throughout the years. A major hurdle in extending the range of experiments for which these vehicles are useful has been the imposition of the gondola dynamics on the accuracy with which an instrument can be kept pointed at a celestial target. A significant number of scientists have sought the ability to point their instruments with jitter in the arc-second range. This paper presents the design and analysis of a stratospheric balloon borne pointing system that is able to meet this requirement. The test results of a demonstration prototype of the design with similar ability are also presented. Discussion of a high fidelity controller simulation for design analysis is presented. The flexibility of the flight train is represented through generalized modal analysis. A multiple controller scheme is utilized for coarse and fine pointing. Coarse azimuth pointing is accomplished by an established pointing system, with extensive flight history, residing above the gondola structure. A pitch-yaw gimbal mount is used for fine pointing, providing orthogonal axes when nominally on target. Fine pointing actuation is from direct drive dc motors, eliminating backlash problems. An analysis of friction nonlinearities and a demonstration of the necessity in eliminating static friction are provided. A unique bearing hub design is introduced that eliminates static friction from the system dynamics. A control scheme involving linear accelerometers for enhanced disturbance rejection is also presented. Results from a linear analysis of the total system and the high fidelity simulation are given. Results from a generalized demonstration prototype are presented. Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware was used to demonstrate the efficacy and performance of the pointer design for a mock instrument. Sub-arcsecond pointing ability from a ground hang test setup is shown from the testing results. This paper establishes that the proposed control strategy can be made robustly stable with significant design margins. Also demonstrated is the efficacy of the proposed system in rejecting disturbances larger than those considered realistic. The system is implemented and demonstrates sub arc second pointing ability using COTS hardware. Finally, we see that sub arc-second pointing stability can be achieved for a large instrument pointing at an inertial target
