    The aim of this research was to establish whether there are differences in the longevity and production characteristics within the studied breeds of cows of different origin. Holstein cows of Slovenian (461) and foreign (356) origin and Simmental cows of Slovenian (261) and foreign (43) origin were studied. Only culled animals that previously had between 1 and 9 lactations were included. The analyzed properties consisted of characteristics related to the longevity and lifetime productivity. Compared with Slovenian cows, imported Holstein cows had a significantly longer calving interval (1210±31 days, 1337±39 days, P=0.008), a longer dry period (172±6 days, 192±7 days, P=0.022), and a significantly lower daily milk yield (23.0±0.2 kg, 22.0±0.3 kg, P=0.002). Significant differences between Simmental cows of Slovenian and foreign origin were observed in functional productivity (1317±52 days, 1808±186 days, P=0.006), longevity (2175±53 days, 2701±145 days, P=0.004), and duration of lifetime lactation (990±38 days, 1265±137 days, P=0.037).Cilj rada bio je utvrditi postoje li razlike u dugovječnosti i proizvodnim karakteristikama između pasmina krava različitog podrijetla. Proučavane su holstein krave slovenskog (461) i stranog (356) podrijetla i simentalske krave slovenskog (261) i stranog (43) podrijetla. Samo krave koje su imale između 1 i 9 laktacija bile su uključene u istraživanje. Analizirana svojstva čine karakteristike vezane za dugovječnost i životnu proizvodnju. U usporedbi sa slovenskim kravama, uvezene holstein krave imale su značajno dulji interval između teljenja (1210±31 dana, 1337±39 dana, P=0,008), dulji suhostaj (172±6 dana, 192±7 dana, P=0,022), i značajno niži prinos mlijeka dnevno (23,0±0,2 kg, 22,0±0,3 kg, P=0,002).     Comparison of production traits of Holstein cows of different origin

    Cilj preučevanja je primerjava proizvodnih lastnosti krav črno bele pasme med seboj glede na izvor. Skupno je bilo tako vključenih 817 brejih telic, od tega 461 telic črno bele pasme slovenskega izvora (SLO) in 98 telic iz Nemčije (NE), 155 telic iz Nizozemske (NZ) in 103 telice iz Danske (DK). Uvožene živali so bile pripeljane v Slovenijo kot breje telice in dosegle od 1. do 9. laktacij. Preučevali smo lastnosti, vezane na prirejo in dolgoživost živali. Vse živali so telile v obdobju med 27. in 30. mesecem starosti, značilno najmlajše so telile živali NZ izvora (p < 0,05), med živalmi SLO, DK in NE izvora ni bilo razlik (p ≥ 0,05). Značilno najhitreje so bile izločene SLO krave, ki so v povprečju dosegle 3,6 laktacij in 23 kg mleka na molzni dan. Krave se med seboj niso značilno razlikovale v življenjski pireji mleka, maščob, beljakovin, količini mleka na molzni dan, št. laktacij, št. laktacijskih dni, št. dni od prve telitve do izločitve, št. dni od rojstva do izločitve, v dobi med telitvama in v dobi presušitve (p ≥ 0,05). Največjo življenjsko prirejo so dosegle DK krave z 29816 ± 1904 kg mleka, prav tako so imele najvišje povprečne količine beljakovin, maščob in mleka v standardnih laktacijah.Aim of this study was to compare productive traits of Holstein cattle among themselves based on origin. Data for this study involved 817 animals, from Slovenia (SLO) n = 461, from Germany (NE) n = 98, from Netherlands (NZ) n = 155 and from Denmark (DK) n = 103. These animals were imported to Slovenia as pregnant heifers and achieve from 1 to 9 lactations. We investigated traits based on productivity and longevity. They have calved between 27 and 30 months of age, NZ heifers were statistically significant the youngest (p < 0.05) among SLO, DK and NE were no statistic significant differences (p ≥ 0.05). SLO cows were statistically significant most rapidly culled but they achieve an average of 3.6 lactations and 23 kg of milk per milking day. Among production traits such as lifetime milk, fat and protein yield, average amount of milk per milking day, no. of lactations, no. of lactation days, no. of days from first calving to culling, no. of days from birth to culling, calving interval and dry period were no statistically significant differences (p ≥ 0.05). DK cows achieve the highest lifetime production with 29816 ± 1904 kg of milk. The best average protein and milk fat in standard lactations was also achieved by DK cows

    Impact of herd size, housing systems and conformation traits on longevity and production traits of Holstein cows

    Cilj preučevanja je bila primerjava proizvodnih lastnosti krav črno bele pasme med seboj glede na velikost črede, načina reje ter lastnosti zunanjosti. Zanimali so nas tudi vzroki izločitev molznic iz črede glede na način reje ter velikost črede. Skupno je bilo v primerjavo vključenih 1671 krav črno bele pasme, ki so prvič telile med 1. 1. 2004 in 31. 12. 2004. Živali se med seboj statistično značilno razlikujejo (p ≤ 0,05) glede na velikost črede v vseh primerjanih proizvodnih lastnostih (indeks dolgoživosti, starost živali, število produktivnih dni, starost ob prvi telitvi, število telitev, življenjska prireja mleka ter količina mleka na krmni dan). Pri primerjavi proizvodnih lastnosti glede na način reje se živali med seboj statistično značilno razlikujejo (p ≤ 0,05) samo v količini mleka na krmni dan in starosti ob prvi telitvi. Pri primerjavi proizvodnih lastnosti glede na linearne ocene zunanjosti se živali med seboj statistično značilno razlikujejo (p ≤ 0,05) v indeksu dolgoživosti, življenjski prireji mleka in količini mleka na krmni dan. Plodnostne motnje so najpogostejši vzrok za izločitev molznic iz črede, takoj za njimi pa so bolezni vimena (mastitis).The aim of study was to compare productive traits of Holstein cattle among themselves based on herd size, housing systems and linear type traits. We were also interested in reasons for culling cows based on herd size and production system. Data included 1671 dairy cows of Holstein breed with first calving from 1.1.2004 to 31.12.2004. Statistically significant differences were found (p ≤ 0.05) among production traits such as longevity index, age, no. of productive days, age at first calving, no. of calvings, lifetime milk production and average amount of milk per milking day, respectively, based on herd size. When comparing production traits based on housing systems, we found statistically significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) in average amount of milk per milking day and age at first calving. Statistically significant differences were also found (p ≤ 0.05) in longevity index, lifetime milk production and in average amount of milk per milking day based on linear type traits.
