A systematic revision of the taxa included in the Silene colorata Poir., S. sericea All. and S. canescens Ten. group is here reported. The systematic characteristics and the affinities among the different entities, they both imperfectly known for Italy, were studied also on the basis of cladistic analysis made on morphological studies. The study of the taxonomy of the group permitted to define the correct taxonomic level as species for: S. colorata Poiret, S. sericea All., S. canescens Ten. and S. morisiana BĂ©g. et Rav .. Three new species, S. arghireica, S. beguinotii, S. nummica have been described. Chorological analysis pointed out the real distribution of the species in Italy

The author makes in this work a survey of the species of the genus Echium, known up to now in Sardinia, and points out some of the problems connected with them. For some species further research in the distribution area of the genus (with particular regard to Italy) and accurate comparisons with similar entities are necessary in order to ascertain their specific character, for some species their actual presence in Sardinia has to be verified. The following species have been recognized: E. italicum L.; E. asperrimum Lam.; E. plantagineum L.; E. parviflorum Moench; E. sabulicofum Pomel; E. creticum L. ssp. creticum e ssp. coincyanum (Lac.) Fernandes; E. vulgare L.; E. pustulatum S. et S. A careful study is still necessary to come to definitive conclusions on E. arenarium Guss. and E. elegans Lehm
