Violating Maxims in Presidential Debate Between President Obama and Republican Nominee Mitt Romney

The study deals with the types of maxims violation in Presidential Debate between President Obama and Republican Nominee Mitt Romney on October 3, 2012. The objectives of study are to describe the violated maxim, to derive the dominant violated maxim and to reason for the use of dominant violated maxims in presidential debate. The data is the transcript of the presidential debate and taken from the internet. This research is conducted by using descriptive qualitative design. It is found that there are 65 utterances violated by the candidates. The results of data analysis show the total numbers are: maxim violation of quantity (67.69%), quality (23.07%), relevance (6.16%), and manner (3.08%). The most dominant type of maxim violation is quantity because the candidates give the information as much as possible to clear up and ensure the listener(s) that one of them is the best choice to be the next American president. Theme and Rheme in “Pepongoten” at Gayo Wedding Ceremony

This study deals with theme in “pepongoten” at Gayo wedding ceremony. The data were taken from informants and tape recorded of the Gayo wedding ceremony which was taken directly from SebukuInenMayak and Sebukuine in Pepongoten. Besides, some books of Gayowedding ceremony were used to complete the data. The method of the research was qualitative descriptive. It gives description about the theme used in Pepongotenat Gayowedding ceremony. The analysis of this research was data collection, data reduction, data display and at last data verification. The findings show that there were three types of theme used in Pepongoten, they are Textual, Topical, and Interpersonal. Those types of Theme and functions of theme reflected Gayonese cultural values namely politeness, respect to the elder, friendly and resoluteness value. These findings imply the importance of honoring parents in every aspect of life

Organizasional Culture as Main Determinan of Elementary School Supervisor Performance in Bengkulu Province

The objective of this research is to describe the affect of the organizasional culture on the elementary school supervisor in Bengkulu Province. The research was conducted by usingsurvey. The population are the elementary school supervisors. The sampel was collected proportional randomly from 100 elementary supervisors. Data were analized by using path analysis technique after all variabels put into correlation matrix. The result of research show there are positive direct effect of organizational culture on elementary school supervisors in Bengkulu Province

Dampak Jangka Panjang Merger dan Akuisisi terhadap Pemegang Saham di BEJ Perbandingan Akusisi Internal dan Eksternal

The objective of this research is to understand the long term impact of the internal as well as external merger and acquisition toward shareholder prosperity using size and beta adjust¬ment abnormal return which had already been shown by the study of Dimson & Marsh (1983). This research based on sample of companies that listed on Jakarta Stock Exchange and perform merger and acquisition during 1999-2000. The results show that there is no significant in¬fluence of merger and acquisition toward shareholder prosperity. There isn’t any significant differ¬ent of AAR and CAAR of companies which perform internal as well as external merger and acqui¬sition. Furthermore, the AAR and CAAR of companies before and after merger and acquisition are insignificantly different

Improving Students' Speaking Achievement by Using Short Movie Media

This research concerns on improving students' achievement in speaking by using short movie media. The objective was to find out the improvement of students' achievement in speaking. This research was conducted by using action research method. The subject of the research was XI IPA-1 students of SMA Negeri 8 Medan. The numbers of students were sixteen students. They were taught speaking by using short movie media. The instruments used were diary notes, interview sheets, and observation sheets. In analyzing data, the mean of students' score for the first competency test was 42,5 for the second competency test was 61,25 and for the third competency test was 85 and the total percentage of improvement from the first competency test to the third competency test was 68,75%. The conclusion is that students' achievement in speaking can be improved by using short movie media. It is suggested that teachers should apply short movie media as one of media to improve students' speaking achievement
