    Thymoma is an epithelial neoplasm of the thymus, which commonly lies in the anterior mediastinum. Unusually, thymomas can also be found in other locations. Surgical excision, when feasible, appears to provide good results. We encountered a rare case of a thymoma that developed in the right thoracic cavity, and originating from the pleura in posterior mediastinum.     The role of antioxidant scavenging enzymes of plant pathogenic bacteria: catalase, ascorbate peroxidase and a virulence factor; extracelluar polysaccharide prodn. in detg. the virulence of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) isolates and its differential reaction to rice cultivars was studied. A varied level of antioxidant scavenging activity and exopolysaccharide prodn. was obsd. among 34 isolates studied, and most of the Xoo isolates with higher catalase activity also exhibited higher ascorbate peroxidase activity. The max. level of catalase (45 μM H2O2 min-​1 mg-​1 protein)​, ascorbate peroxidase (29 μM ascorbate min-​1 mg-​1 proteins) activity and exopolysaccharide prodn. (70 mg) was found in isolate Xoo32 which induced max. lesion length on cultivar 'Jaya' upon clip inoculation in virulence assay. Among the 44 cultivars screened, cultivar 'Jeerigesanna' recorded least bacterial blight disease incidence, with 0.7 cm lesion length. The activity of catalase, ascorbate peroxidase and exopolysaccharide can be employed as bio-​chem. markers in detg. the virulence of Xoo under lab. conditions

    Medical images modality classification using multi-scale dictionary learning

    In this paper, we proposed a method for classification of medical images captured by different sensors (modalities) based on multi-scale wavelet representation using dictionary learning. Wavelet features extracted from an image provide discrimination useful for classification of medical images, namely, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (FRMI). The ability of On-line dictionary learning (ODL) to achieve sparse representation of an image is exploited to develop dictionaries for each class using multi-scale representation (wavelets) feature. An experimental analysis performed on a set of images from the ICBM medical database demonstrates efficacy of the proposed method

    Non-local quantum correlations and detection processes in QFT

    Quantum detection processes in QFT must play a key role in the description of quantum field correlations, such as the appearance of entanglement, and of causal effects. We consider the detection in the case of a simple QFT model with a suitable interaction to exact treatment, consisting of a quantum scalar field coupled linearly to a classical scalar source. We then evaluate the response function to the field quanta of two-level point-like quantum model detectors, and analyze the effects of the approximation adopted in standard detection theory. We show that the use of the RWA, that characterizes the Glauber detection model, leads in the detector response to non-local terms corresponding to an instantaneously spreading of source effects over the whole space. Other detector models, obtained with non-standard or the no-application of RWA, give instead local responses to field quanta, apart from source independent vacuum contribution linked to preexisting correlations of zero-point field.Comment: 23 page
