    Analysis of Compensated Six-Phase Self-Excited Induction Generator Using Double Mixed State-Space Variable Dynamic Model

    In this article, a mixed current-flux d-q modeling of a saturated compensated six-phase self-excited induction generator (SP-SEIG) is adopted during the analysis. Modeling equations include two independent variables namely stator current and magnetizing flux rather than single independent variables either current or flux. Mixed modeling with stator current and magnetizing flux is simple by having only four saturation elements and beneficial in study of both stator and rotor parameters. Performance equations for the given machine utilize the steady-state saturated magnetizing inductance (Lm) and dynamic inductance (L). Validation of the analytical approach was in good agreement along with three-phase resistive or resistive-inductive loading and also determined the relevant improvement in voltage regulation of machine using series capacitor compensation schemes

    Sialolithiasis is one of the most common pathologies of the submandibular gland; sialoliths account for about 80 percent of all salivary duct calculi.The majority of sialolith occurs in the submandibular gland or its duct and is common cause of acute and chronic infection. Salivary stones larger than 15 mm are classified as giant sialoliths. They are uncommon in the practice of otolaryngology, and their management has always been a therapeutic challenge. This report presents the two unusual and rare cases of large sialolith of the submandibular duct as well as gland measuring 70x11mm and 54x25mm respectively.

    With globalization, developing economies like India are facing increasing materialism. The Indian culture has been influenced by the materialistic way of life through western countries. The existence of a multiplicity of ethnicity in Indian culture could not avoid the effect of consumerism and the Western way of life has found its place in the country. Vivek Shanbhag’s Ghachar Ghochar is a tale that employs the material progress of a family to create a haunting story of greed. Shanbhag has a more personal tone while addressing social evils. The novel evaluates the psychological effects of capitalism, the darker and brighter side of the contemporary urban setup in India. Financial security and independence followed by disintegrated families, broken marriages and dysfunctional relationships are some the issues that the novel shares with us while being meticulous not to reveal too many details. The novel is a powerful indictment of the often negative impact of wealth especially one that is newly acquired and its repercussions in society

    On the functional window of the avian compass

    The functional window is an experimentally observed property of the avian compass that refers to its selectivity around the geomagnetic field strength. We show that the radical-pair model, using biologically feasible hyperfine parameters, can qualitatively explain the salient features of the avian compass as observed from behavioral experiments: its functional window, as well as disruption of the compass action by an RF field of specific frequencies. Further, we show that adjustment of the hyperfine parameters can tune the functional window, suggesting a possible mechanism for its observed adaptability to field variation. While these lend strong support to the radical-pair model, we find it impossible to explain quantitatively the observed width of the functional window within this model, or even with simple augmentations thereto. This suggests that a deeper generalization of this model may be called for; we conjecture that environmental coupling may be playing a subtle role here that has not been captured accurately. Lastly, we examine a possible biological purpose to the functional window; assuming evolutionary benefit from radical-pair magnetoreception, we conjecture that the functional window is simply a corollary thereof and brings no additional advantage.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figure

    Role of Optical Network in Cloud/Fog Computing

    This chapter is a study of exploring the role of the optical network in the cloud/fog computing environment. With the growing network issues, unified and cost-effective computing services and efficient utilization of optical resources are required for building smart applications. Fog computing provides the foundation platform for implementing cyber-physical system (CPS) applications which require ultra-low latency. Also, the digital revolution of fog/cloud computing using optical resources has upgraded the education system by intertwined VR using the fog nodes. Presently, the current technologies face many challenges such as ultra-low delay, optimum bandwidth, and minimum energy consumption to promote virtual reality (VR)-based and electroencephalogram (EEG)-based gaming applications. Ultra-low delay, optimum bandwidth, and minimum energy consumption. Therefore, an Optical-Fog layer is introduced to provide a novel, secure, highly distributed, and ultra-dense fog computing infrastructure. Also, for optimum utilization of optical resources, a novel concept of OpticalFogNode is introduced that provides computation and storage capabilities at the Optical-Fog layer in the software defined networking (SDN)-based optical network. It efficiently facilitates the dynamic deployment of new distributed SDN-based OpticalFogNode which supports low-latency services with minimum energy as well as bandwidth usage. Therefore, an EEG-based VR framework is also introduced that uses the resources of the optical network in the cloud/fog computing environment
