In Profits and Sustainability: A History of Green Entrepreneurship, Geoffery Jones maps the development of green entrepreneurship from the nineteenth century to the present day. Spanning an eclectic range of industries, the book chronicles how unconventional individuals pioneered new ways of thinking about sustainability by seeking to mitigate environmental degradation by using for-profit business ventures. At the very core of the book is an interrogation of whether and when profits and sustainability are indeed compatible, writes Ganga Shreedhar, offering valuable insights for those seeking to understand the historical development of the green economy

Evaluating the impact of storytelling in Facebook advertisements on wildlife conservation engagement: lessons and challenges

    Get PDF
Social media ad stories are widely used to grow engagement in wildlife conservation. Yet the benefits of different types of story character and content are unclear. In four video stories, we explored the impact of varying the type of protagonist species (Elephant and WildDog) and content about the role of humans in causing wildlife loss (Elephant + HumanAction and WildDog + HumanAction) using Facebook A/B split tests. Counter to prior perceptions that traditional charismatic flagships are more appealing, stories featuring wild dogs—with and without human-caused harm—elicited higher traffic to a conservation organization's donation website. Only the Elephant video elicited one donation. These results show that storytelling in social media ads, by choosing character and content, can help raise engagement. Yet the failure to raise funds and limitations arising from Facebook's opaque algorithms, underscores the need for greater experimentation to build knowledge about how to convert engagement into donations

We introduce a new distance on a domain Ω⊂Cn\Omega \subset \mathbb{C}^n using the `minimizer' functions on Ap(Ω)A^p(\Omega). We discuss its invariance, completeness, and other aspects related to it

Estimation of Severity of Speech Disability through Speech Envelope

In this paper, envelope detection of speech is discussed to distinguish the pathological cases of speech disabled children. The speech signal samples of children of age between five to eight years are considered for the present study. These speech signals are digitized and are used to determine the speech envelope. The envelope is subjected to ratio mean analysis to estimate the disability. This analysis is conducted on ten speech signal samples which are related to both place of articulation and manner of articulation. Overall speech disability of a pathological subject is estimated based on the results of above analysis.Comment: 8 pages,4 Figures,Signal & Image Processing Journal AIRC

India has the second largest road network in the world. To meet the challenges of growing demand for new and better infrastructure services the resources are limited. To increase and improve infrastructure services in short duration, the Public Private Partnership is an attractive alternative. In India National highways consists of single lane roads, which have prolonged and neglected. This length is about 20,000 km. These single lame national highways would have to be upgraded to two lane basis, but most of these highways have low traffic density, in such cases PPP mode will not viable, annuity based models are also expensive and conventional contracts will require more time and cost. To make such projects viable EPC Engineering Procurement Construction should be adopted
