Based on a review of current literature and telephone surveys with managers from a number of the top 10 retail grocers in the United States, the importance of market segmentation emerges. Technology is less of an issue than several years ago. The reality of the online grocery business as a niche market has sunk in.  Enormous data warehouses with customer data are now ready to be analyzed. Market segmentation is now both possible and critical for the near future to identify how to define and implement a profitable online grocery presence

The established, United States based brick-and-mortar grocery chains have been slow to enter the online grocery business. This paper, the third in a series, explores whether that is still the case in 2001, how the new pure-play online grocers are doing in the aftermath of the collapse of the technical sector of stocks in early 2001, and the role that internationally-based grocery chains are taking in the US marketplace. Somewhat surprisingly, some internationally-based grocery chains are moving aggressively into both the brick-and-mortar and the online grocery business in the United States

Does The Hype Exceed The Reality For ERP Applications And Small Manufacturing Companies: A Case Study

This case study describes the implementation of an ERP in a new arena – small manufacturing companies – and explores possible differences compared with successful implementations of ERP’s in larger manufacturing companies. The company that was studied is a small manufacturing company in Maine (less than $10 million in annual sales) that began implementing a small business ERP 12 months ago. Information was collected through interviews and the completion of a questionnaire based on the Stratman-Roth ERP Competence Scales (2002). Results suggest that while this company’s ERP implementation has been more positive than negative, a small company’s limited financial resources and lack of internal experience and expertise in large IT system projects add to the already complex challenges surrounding an ERP implementation

The Power of Community Partnerships for Innovative Regional Solutions for Food Justice: A Food Alert Phone Application for Southcoast Massachusetts

There is evidence for a growing need for innovative solutions that a collaborative nonprofit network can facilitate. There is now interest by funders in the potential of collaborative networks. However, such networks can be difficult to create and nourish. The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth founded and facilitated a successful nonprofit network which has led to a significant, regional projects. Founded in 2009, Southcoast Serves - based in the Leduc Center for Civic Engagement -- began as a collaborative of over 40 community organizations. Starting as a leap of faith, then slowly developing connections through monthly meetings over five years, by 2014 Southcoast Serves became a set of trusted, collaborative partners, actively looking for effective regional projects. In 2015 Southcoast Serves settled on a regional, food justice campaign that has resulted in a number of projects - most recently the development of a \u27Food Finder\u27 web/phone app for the region. The \u27Food Finder\u27 project team has successfully utilized people from Southcoast Serves non-profits, the university\u27s LeDuc Center as well as students and faculty from the Charlton College of Business\u27 Management Information Systems group. This poster will present the successful development of the Southcoast Serves network of nonprofits as well as the details of the Food Alert Phone/Web application. Best practices will be highlighted to encourage others to develop their networks

The FLUXNET2015 dataset and the ONEFlux processing pipeline for eddy covariance data

The FLUXNET2015 dataset provides ecosystem-scale data on CO2, water, and energy exchange between the biosphere and the atmosphere, and other meteorological and biological measurements, from 212 sites around the globe (over 1500 site-years, up to and including year 2014). These sites, independently managed and operated, voluntarily contributed their data to create global datasets. Data were quality controlled and processed using uniform methods, to improve consistency and intercomparability across sites. The dataset is already being used in a number of applications, including ecophysiology studies, remote sensing studies, and development of ecosystem and Earth system models. FLUXNET2015 includes derived-data products, such as gap-filled time series, ecosystem respiration and photosynthetic uptake estimates, estimation of uncertainties, and metadata about the measurements, presented for the first time in this paper. In addition, 206 of these sites are for the first time distributed under a Creative Commons (CC-BY 4.0) license. This paper details this enhanced dataset and the processing methods, now made available as open-source codes, making the dataset more accessible, transparent, and reproducible. Post-Traumatic Epilepsy Associations with Mental Health Outcomes in the First Two Years after Moderate to Severe TBI: A TBI Model Systems Analysis

Purpose Research suggests that there are reciprocal relationships between mental health (MH) disorders and epilepsy risk. However, MH relationships to post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE) have not been explored. Thus, the objective of this study was to assess associations between PTE and frequency of depression and/or anxiety in a cohort of individuals with moderate-to-severe TBI who received acute inpatient rehabilitation. Methods Multivariate regression models were developed using a recent (2010–2012) cohort (n = 867 unique participants) from the TBI Model Systems (TBIMS) National Database, a time frame during which self-reported seizures, depression [Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ)-9], and anxiety [Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7)] follow-up measures were concurrently collected at year-1 and year-2 after injury. Results PTE did not significantly contribute to depression status in either the year-1 or year-2 cohort, nor did it contribute significantly to anxiety status in the year-1 cohort, after controlling for other known depression and anxiety predictors. However, those with PTE in year-2 had 3.34 times the odds (p = .002) of having clinically significant anxiety, even after accounting for other relevant predictors. In this model, participants who self-identified as Black were also more likely to report clinical symptoms of anxiety than those who identified as White. PTE was the only significant predictor of comorbid depression and anxiety at year-2 (Odds Ratio 2.71; p = 0.049). Conclusions Our data suggest that PTE is associated with MH outcomes 2 years after TBI, findings whose significance may reflect reciprocal, biological, psychological, and/or experiential factors contributing to and resulting from both PTE and MH status post-TBI. Future work should consider temporal and reciprocal relationships between PTE and MH as well as if/how treatment of each condition influences biosusceptibility to the other condition

Enhanced efficacy and increased long-term toxicity of CNS-directed, AAV-based combination therapy for Krabbe disease

Infantile globoid cell leukodystrophy (GLD, Krabbe disease) is a demyelinating disease caused by the deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme galactosylceramidase (GALC) and the progressive accumulation of the toxic metabolite psychosine. We showed previously that central nervous system (CNS)-directed, adeno-associated virus (AAV)2/5-mediated gene therapy synergized with bone marrow transplantation and substrate reduction therapy (SRT) to greatly increase therapeutic efficacy in the murine model of Krabbe disease (Twitcher). However, motor deficits remained largely refractory to treatment. In the current study, we replaced AAV2/5 with an AAV2/9 vector. This single change significantly improved several endpoints primarily associated with motor function. However, nearly all (14/16) of the combination-treated Twitcher mice and all (19/19) of the combination-treated wild-type mice developed hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). 10 out of 10 tumors analyzed had AAV integrations within the Rian locus. Several animals had additional integrations within or near genes that regulate cell growth or death, are known or potential tumor suppressors, or are associated with poor prognosis in human HCC. Finally, the substrate reduction drug L-cycloserine significantly decreased the level of the pro-apoptotic ceramide 18:0. These data demonstrate the value of AAV-based combination therapy for Krabbe disease. However, they also suggest that other therapies or co-morbidities must be taken into account before AAV-mediated gene therapy is considered for human therapeutic trials
